Carousel of Progress "officially" closed?

Great Moment with Mr. Lincoln is not permanently closed. It is closed during the 50th celebration as that is where the 50th exibit and film are being shown. It is scheduled to reopen after the celebration is over.

That's good. Where is the original source for that, if you don't mind my asking?

we recently got the 2006 disney vaction planning kit/dvd, which includes park maps and attraction lists, and it does not list the carousel of progess

OT but..
How did you get the kit? I got a "kit" from the official site but it only included a DVD. No maps or attraction list. I'd love the maps ahead of time. Thanks.

We did Dine with an Imagineer last March and the Imagineer said that it's days were numbered. The real estate is more valuable then the ride itself. He said it was extremely out of date. A 50k spit and shine is good to keep it open temporarily but it needs a MAJOR rehab and updating.

I wonder about this. I mean, what about the space the Timekeeper is vacating, the old stations for the skyway, the Galaxy Theatre, and the Pooh kid's play area. Surely something better can go in these places. They are prime real estate too. Wouldn't it be easier to renovate these areas (yes, the Pooh playground is new, but it does look sorta temporary and that space could have been used better) that are already out of use? Also, the Galaxy Theatre is used, but it's rare. SHouldn't all of these areas have their days numbered before CoP? Maybe wishful thinking, but it just seems there is already wasted space in the park that could be used for something more than they currently are.

I would really hate for them to tear down CoP and put in something like Stitch.

As far as real estate goes. Have you seen how many acres are unused behind Toontown and Fantasyland when you ride the railroad?

Nooooooo!!!! They can't close it! I haven't even seen it yet! That can't be true!

Back in 2001 and 2002, at least, CoP was rumored to be closing and actually was closed most of the year. It was listed as seasonal and since I only go there these days in February or March it was always closed. When Alien Encounter closed down for a redo, CoP opened continuously. There was also a massive e-mail, etc. campaign to keep it open as a classic. I don't think it is listed as seasonal anymore and it has been opened consistently for at least a couple of years now.

When I was there last I noticed that they had installed new monitors outside for the preshow and that a lot of face-lifting was happening. That is a good sign that they intend to keep it going at least for the foreseeable future.

I agree that it is being confused with Timekeeper that definitely has closed permanently, it would appear.

:guilty:

I want my kids to enjoy it just like I did when I was growing up (and our first DD is only 8 months, so it can't close yet! (or EVER!)

It was opened in December when we went to a MVMCP, but it did need some major work. The Carousel didn't work and we sat through one segment more than once, and then there was another time when I think the whole audience was mentally pushing it along so it would MOVE!

I like it, am glad that it's around, we saw it in the Worlds Fair in NYC, but please FIX IT!!!

Bobbi :)

This year on the map that came with the dvd Snow White's Scary Adventure isn't listed. Last year The Many Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh wasn't listed. I'm not sure why they don't list every attraction. :confused3

It was open a couple of weeks ago so hopefully this is a bad rumor.

I was on COP last Monday evening.

Timekeeper was said to be closing permanantly on 2/26 but had already closed on 2/20!

DOH!!

Okay, I finally listened to the podcast. It basicallys says that COP and Timekeeper are closed, again. But no one knows if COP is closed for good, as always.

 I could strangle my "source" for e-mailing me that it was "officially" closed!!! Give me a heart attack whydon'tcha!? :scared:

Well, all I know is that Saturday night CoP wasn't closed at all, any way, shape, or form. Maybe they have all info regarding the CoP wrong? Which podcast is it?

Kim
we also ordered the kit from the site...inside the dvd case was a small booklet with cinderella on the front, that had attraction lists and crude maps

My guess is that this is nothing more than a rumor. I cannot find any other information anywhere online about this.

Start writing to guest relations now...the more the better to keep it open...or at least get our voices heard!!!!
