Why share this? It was awful enough seeing the headline on cruise critic.

I won't watch the video. Perhaps the people who made the video thought it was important to document this event for any future legal proceedings. I don't know why anyone thought it was appropriate to release it to the media though. My heart goes out to this crew member and his family. Do you remember not long ago a passenger was awarded millions (I can't remember how much just that it was an extraordinary large figure) for bumping his head when an elevator closed unexpectedly? For something like this I can't even imagine. It's absolutely tragic.
If that's the case it's still pretty awful. You know how people are in this litigious society. Even if he is at fault I am doubtful it's the last we've heard about this.If the crew member was an elevator repairman who forgot to turn off the power before working on the elevator, wouldn't he bear some of the responsibility?

In this situation it could be just as easy that he did everything he was suppose to and someone came behind and removed the lock out tag or whatever. Also for all we know since these boats are bound by US law but rather the law where they are registered it is possible there was no requirement for a lock out mechanism to prevent this type of situation. So electrician takes elevator out of service but crew member thinking dinner rush is coming brings it back into service with out first figuring out why it was taken out in the first place.
Thou they are not bound by usa law I'm sure carnival takes safety seriously Im pretty sure they will use lock out procedures. When you lock it out the key goes in your pocket. Than you verify it doesn't work. No one else has a key to it. Only one key per locks for lock outs. Everyone working on it will have their own lock on it. You don't unlock it until after you are finish working on it. i deal with lock outs everyday at work. Safety first
