a crew member died while working on the elevator. Passengers witnessed part of the horrifying incident Sunday evening which blood poured down the front of the elevator.

I saw that story on CNN. How horrible! I feel so bad for the gentleman's family, friends, and coworkers.

Wow! Very chilling to read about this. I hadn't heard of this accident until now. I hope Carnival is going to step up and help the man's family as well as all the poor passengers and crew who saw that.

Edit to add I'm not sure why the couple decided photos and video were necessary. Isn't seeing someone's blood pouring down the front of the elevator enough to scar you? My first thought would not have been let me pull out my phone to take video.

My mom told me about this earlier and I have been reading the Carnival boards but really don't like posting over there. I did watch the video. Such a tragedy and I pray for the family.

I see nothing wrong with someone starting a post here to share what happened on a cruise ship and I hope that nothing like this will ever occur again on any cruise ship.

We were on the Dream coming back from Castaway to PC and noticed their boat off in the distance at night around 11 or 12. It wasn't moving and we found it odd. They were also not in port yet when we disembarked.

I won't watch the video. Perhaps the people who made the video thought it was important to document this event for any future legal proceedings. I don't know why anyone thought it was appropriate to release it to the media though. My heart goes out to this crew member and his family. Do you remember not long ago a passenger was awarded millions (I can't remember how much just that it was an extraordinary large figure) for bumping his head when an elevator closed unexpectedly? For something like this I can't even imagine. It's absolutely tragic.

If the crew member was an elevator repairman who forgot to turn off the power before working on the elevator, wouldn't he bear some of the responsibility?

If that's the case it's still pretty awful. You know how people are in this litigious society. Even if he is at fault I am doubtful it's the last we've heard about this.

I'm concerned that a co-worker dies and they keep the lift running for 30 mins after..

Way to go preserving the crime scene!

Yes I'm sure they have lock out tag out. After you lock it out you verify it that it doesn't work.

In this situation it could be just as easy that he did everything he was suppose to and someone came behind and removed the lock out tag or whatever. Also for all we know since these boats aren't bound by US law but rather the law where they are registered it is possible there was no requirement for a lock out mechanism to prevent this type of situation. So electrician takes elevator out of service but crew member thinking dinner rush is coming brings it back into service with out first figuring out why it was taken out in the first place.

Thou they are not bound by usa law I'm sure carnival takes safety seriously Im pretty sure they will use lock out procedures. When you lock it out the key goes in your pocket. Than you verify it doesn't work. No one else has a key to it. Only one key per locks for lock outs. Everyone working on it will have their own lock on it. You don't unlock it until after you are finish working on it. i deal with lock outs everyday at work. Safety first

Haven't had to deal with a lock out tage system for years but when I worked at Wal-Mart if you tagged the compactor the key went on the wall right next to it. We weren't allowed to pocket it for some reason. Can't tell you how many times we had to shout at people for trying to untag the stupid thing with out first checking if it was clear.
