I have been watching some cars and got a message Saturday that one was no longer available.

Today, Wednesday, I got a message that it is again available.

Why would a car suddenly become available again after so long?

The available/not available thing routinely happens from morning until afternoon and I figure that is just financing falling through...

Thanks for your thoughts!

This actually happened with a car we ended up buying from Carmax.

Went onto the lot, liked a car, went in to do the paperwork-found out someone else was already buying it from another salesperson.

Went in two weeks later, the car was still there. Ended up the financing did not go through for that other person. We ended up buying the car that day.

Thanks for the info. I seem to recall a satisfaction guarantee and am wondering if maybe they had it looked at and brought it back because of something they found...

CarMax cars are, in general, reliable though, correct?

As far as the car we have, we haven't had any complaints. We bought the car about six years ago and have only done routine maintenance. It has over 100,000 miles on it and we will drive it until the wheels fall off.

Maybe someone else will chime in, however, and let you know if they had any bad experiences.

Ours was pretty pleasant, as far as car buying goes.

As far as the satisfaction guarantee, I think it gives you three days and if you don't want the car for whatever reason they will take it back. We took the car to our mechanic in those three days to ensure everything was okay-and, indeed, everything was good.

Everyone I know that has purchased a car from CarMax is very pleased with the car. We looked, and lurked on their website before our last car purchase, and we found their cars were all $2,000 more expensive and had 15-20,000 more miles on them that other sources.
In our case, we bought a 2007 Taurus from Hertz for $9,500 with 29,000 miles. Same car....also a former Hertz Rental at Carmax was $11,500 and had 45,000 miles on it.

I agree totally with TVGuy. We also looked at Carmax and found their prices high. We ended up buying a private sale Camry for about $3,000 less than a similar vehicle at Carmax.

I can also tell you that selling a car to CarMax was a good experience. I had a car for 15 years that I needed to sell. I could have gotten about $1000 if I did the whole sell it myself thing, but there were a few things wrong with the car and I didn't want to deal with it and having strangers come over with bouncing checks and whatnot.

I took it to CarMax and told them what was wrong with it. After waiting an hour for them to go over the car, I walked away with a check for $750. I was happy. I considered them very fair and pleasant.

My DS(25) used to work at Carmax. If someone puts a hold on a car, it can be removed from the inventory, temporarily. The sale could have fallen through for a variety of reasons. My DS was the one who took all the pictures of the car that appear online. They upped how many they took while he was working there too. He also moved cars around on the lot and emptied cars of stuff when someone sold it. They used to find all kinds of things in cars. One time, another guy found a gun. Drugs were occasionally found too as well as other weapons (knives mainly). He actually loved working there, but left for a job in his field. He drove a lot of different cars and learned which ones he liked and which ones he would never buy. He owned a couple of cars from there also. He learned to drive stick shift and when he bought his new car recently, he got a 6 speed manual. It's a pretty good place to work.

I just recently bought my car from Carmax in Orlando...but my car came from the Jacksonville lot..I payed $49 to to have the car shipped down to me, which was promptly reimbursed without issues. I bought an '09 Hyundai Accent and I  it.

The experience overall was great..no hassling, and everything was plain as day with costs. I would buy from them again and again.

I will NEVER go back to CarMax as long as I live and drive!!!!

I got my first car from there, and I will say the purchasing experience was pleasant (what I can remember of it--it was about 9yrs ago) and I liked the car. The price seemed fair to me, but I wasn't buying it, my DD was :rotfl:

We bought the car, and on the way home, one of the turn signals died!! I kid you not, we had to stop at an Advanced Auto Parts store and buy a new turn signal light. And then!!! Three days later, the BATTERY DIED!!! It doesn't even end there, though!! We called them, and they came and picked up the car and towed it back to replace the battery free of charge. Well, when we went to go pick it back up, they had lost one of the keys to the car!!!! I was so upset, and all I wanted to do was get the hell out of there and NEVER go back!
