Hi all. Newbie to the DL boards. Planning our first DL trip for this August (woot!) and we want to follow up a few days in Anaheim down the coast for a beach-front stay in or near SD. We also want to visit Legoland.
On a previous trip to SD (our only other time to So Cal), we stayed in Pacific Beach at the Pacific Terrace Hotel -- which was great, but the ocean view rooms are outrageously priced during the summer high season. There are a couple of other beachfront hotels/motels in Pacific Beach, like the Ocean Park Inn, that I am considering.
However, I'm also thinking we could stay in Carlsbad so we're close to Legoland and within day-trip distance of other SD attractions (the zoo, La Jolla, etc). It would also mean we could fly R/T into LAX as opposed to flying into LAX and out of SD, which means a charge for dropping the rental car at a different airport.
Anyone have experience with the Carlsbad beach locales? The Beach Terrace Inn caught my eye. Do you recommend this area if we want a relaxing stay by the beach? We are two adults, two DS's 9 and 6. We don't need anything fancy, but DH wants to see/hear the ocean from the room. TIA!
