Caribbean or Mexican Riviera?

hi guys!

I'm planning an epic Disney adventure in 2019 for DD's 5th birthday. We went to WDW on our honeymoon and planned to go back in 5 yrs - we live in New Zealand so it's a long trip to make!

I'm planning 2 weeks in WDW and then a cruise - not fussed on length so much but I'm wondering about whether to do a Caribbean or Mexican cruise - we have to fly back via the West Coast anyway and it might break up a long journey to do MR instead, but I never see much info about them! It would be early October, and we need to be back before the 15th when she starts school (so latest we could leave the USA is the 12th given the time difference). Obviously it'll be a year or more before the itineraries come out and I might just have to pick based on date, but I was wondering about the weather in the Caribbean in October given it is still hurricane season? Is it likely to affect cruises?

Has anyone been on the Mexican cruises and can compare?

Would love to do a Halloween one if we are lucky enough to find one for our dates!

The Wonder has been doing the Mexican Riviera cruises but who knows whether she'll be on the west coast in October 2019. Yes, it's still hurricane season in the Caribbean in October. If that becomes an issue the affected itinerary will be changed to avoid the storm as needed.

Its hurricane season on the west coast too, and there's been quite a few the last few years. I would do the Caribbean unless the MR is a lot cheaper.

Sounds like an exciting trip.
Having done both of these cruises we throughly enjoyed ourselves on both trips. But in the end we would choose a Caribbean cruise. The ports were a bit more interesting and visting Castaway Cay was a Major plus for us.:flower3:

Thanks guys :) maybe we'll break up the long trip home with a quick Disneyland visit instead haha!

I had no idea there were hurricanes on the west coast too!

Castaway Cay does sound amazing - I guess I'm going to have to wait impatiently for another year or so before the itineraries come out and I can actually book!

I have done both trips and I would choose a Caribbean Cruise over the Mexican Rivera Cruise. There seems to be more things to do at the Caribbean ports not to mention you should have more flexibility when it comes to selecting a cruise and ship on the east coast with multiple ships. Oh yeah and of course Castaway Cay.

Cabo got hit by a cat 3 last year. The pacific has been very active the last couple of years.

Did the Mexican Riveria once ... and the Caribbean multiple times ... would choose the Caribbean hands-down. When combined with your 2-week stay at WDW then the experience is unbeatable ... Disney transportation from the airport to WDW to PC and back ... chance to go to Castaway Cay ... more exciting and varied itineraries as opposed to just PV and CSL on the West Coast ... One may suggest that three weeks Disney is too much - lol - not really - have done it a number of times :)

Also don't forget to check if airfare is more expensive if you do a layover in CA on the way back home to do the Riveria cruise ...

Nah, it's never too much when you come from so far away! We did 12 nights for our honeymoon and could have easily done another week (would have but I couldn't change flights). We will do a couple of Universal days to balance it out lol

It's such an awesome place for a honeymoon isn't it? So many yummy places to eat, and we were there over New Years so wandering around MK at 2am with EMH was just magical.

We just did a daytrip out to universal as we aren't thrill ride junkies so were just going to see WWoHP really. Hubby much prefers the rides at Disney and I even managed to get him on Splash and Space once (never again tho lol). Thunder is as much of a thrill ride as he will do.

We actually got married at WDW and it was amazing! We only hit Uni for part days and then hit DtD or a park after as we had APs. It was the best decision ever to get married and honeymoon at WDW.
