Caribbean Beach Resort FAQ Part 3

I'm staying at CBR in about a week and a half and just the other day I received a letter from Disney explaining to me that the main pool was down for refurbishment. I'm pretty sure it said that they expected it to reopen in September.

At first I thought that was a really nice gesture on Disney's part but I knew good and well that the pool would be closed. I'm not planning on swimming while I'm there. Then I got through thinking, here it is less than 2 weeks before I go and I'm just recieving this now. Had I not known beforehand I probably would have been pretty upset. If anyone is interested I could scan the letter in tomorrow.

I'm subbing to this thread. I'm deciding between WL or trying one of the moderates. Poly is our favorite resort so maybe we will like CBR.

I have a few questions. Does anyone know in what order the buses pick up? I would like to avoid being picked up last and dropped off last if I can help it. We plan on booking preferred. I also read the room were refurbed in 2006, is this true?
Thanks,
Nichole

There are preferred location rooms in Martinique and Trinidad North.

Buses to/from Magic Kingdom and Downtown Disney start at Martinique and then go to Old Port Royale, Trinidad South, Jamaica, Aruba and finally Barbados before going to the destination.

Buses to/from the other 3 theme parks start at Jamaica and then go to Aruba, Barbados, Martinique, Old Port Royale, Trinidad North and finally Trinidad South before going to the destination.

So as you can see, if you book a preferred location room, your village will be stop #1 or stop #3 when going to MK or DTD, and stop #4 or stop #6 when going to any of the other 3 theme parks.

There's no way to guarantee which of the 2 preferred location villages you will get, but you can always request one or the other.

I doubt this applies to you, but just in case ...
Some people throw the word "preferred" around regarding CBR when they really mean "water view" (which costs the same as preferred location). There are water view rooms at each of the 6 CBR villages, since each village fronts the lake and each village has its own pool.

You were lucky to get a letter. I will be there in about a week and a half myself, and we have not received any letters letting us know of this information. If I did not know this and they did not tell me until we get there --- well lets just say you don't want to be around. What they do for one they should do for all.

Anyone have an answer for this or can somone piont me in the right direction? Thak you:thumbsup2

Hi,

You might want to start your own topic and ask this. You would definitely get more people reading it and possibly more feedback and hopefully the answer you want. ;)

Have a great trip!!! :goodvibes

Denise

Thank you for positing the letter. I still say I should have received one as well, but I will keep my mouth shut and be happy. It has been to long since we have bee on vacation and I will not let the little things get to me. I will be in the best place one could be afterall.

Thank you.

Thanks for posting the letter! I was wondering how they were handleing the situation

I have to agree about the letter. I too received one, but it came 2 days ago which is 2.5 weeks before my trip. I just kind of looked it over and put it aside, but I can't imagine how livid I would be if this was the first I was hearing about it.

The same thing happened on our trip last year. We stayed at POR and I had known the food court was closed for months because of the boards. We had a rental car and didn't really plan on using the food court anyhow, but I can't imagine being a family with small kids and no rental car getting that letter if they had intended to start their day there.

There are 6 other pools so I can see being upset but not livid. I think everyone when they travel bear some responsibility for researching information so they are prepared.

CBR is a beautiful resort and so are the quiet pools. I wouldn't let it ruin a Disney vacation.

If you call and complain to Disney will they discount your room at all??

We are traveling in October, if they are not done with the refurbishment by then do you think we would be able to get some kind of compensation for that?

I doubt they would compensate you. There are other pools at the resort.

By Oct. I doubt you have to worry.

We got our letter a couple of months ago (we leave for WDW and CBR tomorrow), so they are sending some in a decent amount of time.
I had already known about the pool situation because of these boards and the Mousesavers newsletters, but even if I didn't, it wouldn't bother me. They are actively trying to make up for the fact that they are refurbishing the pool by giving everyone access to several other pools, as well as adding slides to a couple of them. Plus, we are only going to use the pools every so often since we will be at the parks and such.
I understand the frustration about not getting the notice quicker, but I don't see how losing out on one pool would make that much of a difference, unless you just really enjoyed the main pool.
I still hope that you all are able to enjoy your stay there. This will be our first time at CBR and I am soooo excited to see it! I have heard nothing but good things are this resort!

Pictures from Apr 4, 2008. I didn't hear any noise. I wasn't tall enough to see over the fencing but there was a hole in the cloth covering the fence. :)

The slide is now up in Jamaica. You can also see the lifeguard.

Thanks for the updated pics!!!! I want to see more progress!!! :)
Were they working on it? Each time someone posts, they mention no one was working when they checked.
I just hope they pour the new pool before the seasonal rains start!

If you looked to the right through the hole they have the new outside walls of the pool area. I couldn't see anyone working in the area I was looking. There were people working in another area but didn't want to take pictures with them standing there.

Ok, I am planning our trip for next year....we are trying to do a family reunion type deal and CBR is looking to be the resort that fits everyones pocketbook. I have one question...will CBR allow you to put a rollaway in a King Bed room? For us, it is just DH, me and DS...we prefer a king for us...can this be done, or is it a big no-no? Sorry if this has been asked before, I searched and couldn't find the answer.
