Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

My wife and I are planning our annual trip to WDW in November and CSR is listed as unavailable for the length of our stay. We're seriously considering CBR and I have a few quick questions -

1) For those who are familiar with Pepper Market at CSR, is the Food Court at CBR the same kind of deal?

2) How does a double size bed compare to a queen? I ask because that's what we have at home and when we stay in hotels we try to stick with the same.

3) Pirate rooms - are they worth an add'l $30/night? I ask, knowing that we'll be there for ten days.

4) For those who have stayed at both, what are your pros and cons for each?

Thank you for your help!

1 -- The food courts are not similar at all. CBR's is more of a "regular" food court, just like all the other moderates & values. Very simple and convenient! No stamp card thing to deal with like at CSR.

2 -- I measured it and came up with about a 5" difference in the width.

3 -- I think the pirate rooms would be worth the extra money, once. I don't think I'd pay extra every time.

4 -- We have stayed at both CBR and CSR. CBR is our favorite (of all the WDW resorts we have stayed at). We wouldn't return to CSR. We really prefer the atmosphere and theme of CBR. We like the pools better, the food court better, the rooms better, and the CM's are great! We didn't have such a good experience at CSR -- our room was filthy, the front desk was rude, and the service at the food court was terrible.

Hope that helps. Have a great trip! :goodvibes

Can DD9 play in the aqua play area? Is this right by the main pool?

thanks

Yes, absolutely! :goodvibes It is right next to (but not connected to) the main pool. There are lots of pictures of the pools in my review -- the link is in my signature, if you want to take a look!

I am reading every post on this thread! My hubby just told me to book

a short trip to WDW for March 4th-8th!!!

And he wants to stay @ CBR w/ the Pirate room!(I think he's been on my computer!) LOL:laughing:

It will be our 1st time @ CBR, so I'm a little frazzeled!

Any advice would be helpful!

Special or Fav. room??

Thanks to all who have shared already! :thumbsup2Very Helpful!!!

Hi. :)

Just booked a trip for June to go to Star Wars Weekend... kind of on a whim. Went with a moderate this time and we haven't stayed at a moderate since Dixie Landings, LOL.

We booked a preferred room because I'm worried about walking too far. It's just me and my 6 year old boy, so that's a concern for me. I'd really prefer a King bed room or a pirate room. Does anyone know if the king rooms are in a specific building or spread out around the resort? And how much longer the walk really is from a pirate room vs a preferred room (like the walk to coffee in the morning, LOL).

We've stayed at a lot of Disney resorts, but the size of this one and the transportation situation is overwhelming me a bit.

King bed rooms are sprinkled throughout the resort (except there are NONE in the Pirate rooms). If you booked a preferred location room, then you CAN'T guarantee yourself a king bed room. At CBR, preferred location means being in one of the 6 buildings closest to Old Port Royale.

A pirate room is a totally separate booking category. And as I said, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get a Pirate room with a king bed. ALL of the Pirate rooms are in Trinidad South, the village that's farthest from OPR.

These numbers are general estimates, so your mileage may vary, but the walk to OPR from a preferred location room can be as little as 1 minute (say, from Martinique 26) or as much as 5 minutes (say, from Trinidad North 33). The walk to OPR from a Pirate room can be between 8-10 minutes.

If your biggest concern/deswire is minimizing your in-resort walking, then, in my opinion, paying for a preferred location room is VERY well worth the extra expense.

With the summer discount extended, I think we are going to upgrade from Pop to CBR. Yay! :) We have two kids (4,7)... I don't really care about the pirate themed rooms, but would like a room that is convenient to the pirate pool, and food court... Should we book a preferred room or a water view? They are the same price... Are some of the water view rooms in the "farthest" buildings? It would be nice to have the water view... but not if we are going to end up far from the pool and food court. TIA :goodvibes

If you want to be close to the main pool and food court then book the preferred room. Some of the water view rooms are creative in the view of the water, you could also be overlooking a quiet pool.

We got a pin so we'll be staying at AKL in July instead :dance3: I hope we will get to stay at CBR another visit

There are height restrictions on that pool play area. My son was fine in there at age 8 but he is a small boy and didn't cause any issues. There were some older kids that came in there and did get removed. I would think she would be fine at age 9. The kids removed were probably around 12 or older.

My kids were 9 & 7 when we were there last. There were kids in the children's pool younger/smaller than them and kids that were older/larger too. We didn't have any issues. Of course it wasn't crowded at all and everyone was behaving themsleves! :)

I was wondering if you guys could help me with something..we are heading to CBR on May 8th and have never made a request for anything before. We have payed for a preffered room but would love a ground floor with the baby/stroller stuff. We also would love to stay in Martinique if possible. How on earth do I make a request? Do i have to call them directly ot what? Im clueless..can I make more than one request? Who and where do I send it? thanks.

I always put in my requests when I make my reservation and then I fax them to the resort about 4 days before we arrive. You can call and add them to your reservation. And the CBR fax number should be in the beginning of this thread.

Good luck! :goodvibes

I am hoping we won't have a problem since i sold her on not doing a water park this trip. She really likes the pool and play area. She will be 9.5 but is on the small side(my 2 teen DD's are only 5 feet and finished growing).

Oh, i went and checked out your pics and showed those to her also...she loved them and thanks for the trip report!
We did book a preferred room and requested Martinique but i want to request a specific bldg and i saw your post about faxing it in. I think i will give it a try.
