Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

My question is:
We are planning on eating breakfast in the room. Bagels, eng. muffins, with cream cheese or peanut butter. Which I will buy when we get there.
But, is there packets of butter and jelly that we can get from the food court if we get tired of cream cheese and p butter ?

I do recall those items in the food court. I usually used a snack credit and used my mug for breakfast early in the food court. I have a feeling I'm really going to miss CBR this Aug trip. We booked CSR for something different.

Okay, I'm second-guessing myself back and forth now... of course. LOL. I booked CBR basically because of the pool. We're a pool-loving family. I did book a preferred room. I'm going to be traveling with just my son, so ease of resort is important to me. I don't want complicated bus systems or too much walking or anything. We stayed at ASMu last year and we didn't like it because of the horrid pool, but the bus system was straight forward and only one stop and we didn't have to walk far to anything. I'm imagining CBR to be like the Poly grounds - only huger - and I kept getting lost at Poly. :lmao:

I'm considering POFQ just because it seems to be much smaller and simpler. But I know my son won't enjoy the theming, etc., as much. And I wouldn't have to pay for preferred there.

So... should I stick with CBR? Somebody reassure me here. If I have a preferred room at CBR, it shouldn't be much more walking or confusion that I'd have at POFQ, right? I am a little concerned about the distance to the Custom House though. Is there anything I need to be there for other than check-in?

I am directionally challenged. We stayed in a preferred room and had no problems. Very close to the bus stop and to the food court.

:)

Very close to the pool, food courts and bus stops. You should have no issues. We were in Martinique both 26 and 24 and had no problems. 26 is closer and 24 the furthest...we walked not even 5 min to the food court.

If you booked a preferred room you are going to be right on either side of OPR, with a very short walk. So no worries there about a long walk or getting lost. (Although I do recommend walking the grounds, they are beautiful :goodvibes)

I would agree that POFQ is MUCH smaller. I wouldn't say it is any "simpler" though. We have never had any confusion at CBR (And we never book preferred), even when we stayed there on our very first trip and didn't have a clue what we were doing! :rotfl:

I agree too that your DS will like the pools and theming of CBR much more. Mine do!

If you are a pool loving family then CBR is definitely for you! The main pool is very awesome with zero entry, 2 slides, and 2 hot tubs. Plus the children's pool next to it is fantastic! pirate: And there is a quiet pool in each village. At POFQ you will get one pool. At POFQ you would have access to POR's pools, but it would be quite a hike.

We only ever go to the Custom House for check in and then to catch our ME bus back to the airport. No real reason to go there any other time. The concierge desk is at OPR. When you check in at the Custom House they will take you to your room in a van if you have any luggage with you. So no worries about walking from the CH to your room.

As for the buses at CBR, they are excellent! :thumbsup2 And with it's central location all the bus rides are very short!

Hope that helps~ Good luck!

My mom is severely directionally challenged, so to speak. ;) She got the 'hang' of the walk to OPR and back to the room after one round trip.:thumbsup2 Took her like 2 or 3 times before understanding the busstops. She started out counting, NOT smart at CBR as different busses start at different villages first. As soon as she realised she should be on the look out for the OPR busstop sign, she was all set. Heck, it's been more than a year since and she still goes 'need to get off the bus at OPR'. :rotfl2:

The lay out is pretty easy to understand IMHO. Easier than the Poly, where even I had to scratch behind my ears before finding the main building after exiting the monorail at the TTC. Basically, where ever you are located; get yourself towards the lake. It has a walkway around it, that will lead you right to OPR and the main pool. If not sure if you have to turn left or right for the walkpath; look at the signs. There are signs allover. Same goes for the return trip; follow the walkway along the lake and look for the signs with your buildings number on it.

Custom House; don't sweat it. You check in there and that's it. There is a concierge desk at OPR that can deal with all kinds of stuff. It is a bit of a longer hike from CH to the preffered rooms and not a walk yould want to do as a first in the dark if you are geographically challenged. No problem though! There is an internal shuttle that you can hop onto and will go circles between CH and the villages. If you arrive at an ungodly hour where the internal shuttle isn't operating, they can drive you over with a van. Only downside; NO luggage allowed on the internal shuttle so you'll have to have bellservice take care of that.

If POFQ suits your family; great! But I wouldn't shy away from CBR for finding your way around the resort. Especially not when in a preffered room.

We are back from CBR, and had a fantastic time! For those of you who didn't get a chance to read my thread, I thought I should post my report here, too. This was our first trip to WDW, and here are a few observations from our week (1/30-2/6)...

Rooms: We were in a standard, Nemo-themed room. I had requested Martinique, first floor, but we were put in Barbados, first floor, room #1322. At first I was going to ask to be moved, but I decided to chance it, and we turned out to be in an excellent location. We were less than a one minute walk to the quiet pool and laundry, two minutes to the bus, a short walk across the street from the Customs house, and a six minute leisurely stroll to Old Port Royale. We were given a courtyard view. The courtyard contained a designated smoking area, but since it rained most of the week, there were almost no smokers (or anyone else) there for most of the time. The room was very clean, and mousekeeping did a great job all week. We didn't get any towel animals, but my sons' stuffed animals were always arranged in cute and funny ways (one day, they were all watching TV, complete with remote :goodvibes) There was very little noise from the neighboring rooms, except we could sometimes hear showers and toilets flushing in the mornings.

Buses: Our room was quite close to the bus stop. Barbados is the last stop before going to the MK and Dowtown Disney, and the third bus stop for buses going to DHS, Epcot, and AK. The dispatching part of the bus system had us a bit confused, and frankly I think my husband was right in concluding that Goofy was actually running it. :rotfl2: Although we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for an outgoing bus (and often less than 5), there would often be two or three buses going to the same place that would come by in a row. :confused3 One morning we watched three buses going to Downtown Disney go by at 8AM within the space of 5 minutes. Other than this weirdness, the bus system was easy to use, and the longest we waited for a bus was 20 minutes one night at Epcot.

Food: We ate one lunch at Old Port Royale. It was set up like most food courts, but only 2 of the 4 stations were open when we went, and this was at 12:45 - peak lunchtime. The pizza station was also serving to types of pre-made sandwiches, but the selection was more limited than I was expecting. The Grab and Go section of the market was well stocked, and we used it to fill in breakfasts when we ran out of cereal and milk in our room. I looked longingly at the outdoor pool bar a few times, but unfortunately it was far too chilly to sit and sip drinks by the pool (bummer!).

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at CBR. The poor weather seriously curtailed some of the parts of the resort we would otherwise have enjoyed. We didn't have a chance to go swimming or play on the beach, but the long walks around the lake were really lovely and relaxing, and all of the cast members we encountered were friendly and helpful. We loved CBR, and I would stay there again (but hope for warmer weather next time :goodvibes)

Thanks MusicMouse, for the great pictures! CBR is our favorite, and the photos make me anxious for our next visit!!! :cool1:

I'm staying at CBR tomorrow and pretty much know a lot of stuff about it but this thread increased my knowledge of the resort and its "wonders". Thanks so much!

I just recently booked our stay at the CBR and we're very excited!
I do have a question--
Do you have to book the kids' pirate cruise in advance or can I do it when we get there?

Musicmouse- Love the pictures, great ones of the food court. Good to know what kind of drinks and yummy snacks I will be eating next month !:thumbsup2
And, good to know the coffee is just Nescafe.
I will make sure to still bring my own ! :surfweb:
