Caribbean Beach FAQ Part IV

Mary Kay,

If you plan to request rooms with a door in between be sure to request connecting rooms, not adjoining. Disney terms!

We've had connecting rooms at CBR and FQ a few times. At FQ and POP we had 6 rooms, every other one was connecting and all of the rooms together were considered adjoining. Make sense?

CBR does not share buses, but does have several stops within the resort - we never found this to be an issue - although we did feel bad for guests getting on at the last stop. At FQ sometimes the bus stops only at FQ, other times it goes on to POR - but FQ during our stays FQ was always first to pick up and drop off.

Both are terrific resorts for different reasons! CBR was just refurbished last year, so the rooms will be fresher and newer. FQ was refurbed in 2004 and some guests report some rooms are beginning to be in need of a some refurbishment again, but it is still a great resort. I would go by whichever theme appeals most to your family. CBR is very beachy and relaxing..like a vacation within a vacation. FQ is smaller, charming and quaint...like a cleaned up version of New Orleans French Quarter. ;)

Hope this helps! Happy planning!! :)

Thans so much for the info We are going with CBR now on to ADR's

We are so excited  25 days until we are in our Pirate rooms at CBR! DS 11 loves all things pirate related! This is our first time at CBR and actually our first stay at an official Disney resort, we have stayed at Shades of Green and off-site before so we are really looking forward to this. This is also the first time that we have gone for more than a few days so we plan to experience this trip a little differently than the usual Florida resident 2-3 day insanity. We are trying to have a fairly relaxed trip. we don't need to do everything, we live in Clearwater so we know we will be back!

We will be there August 8-15 and have built in time every day to be at the resort, generally for 3-4 hours in the afternoon and then for a few evenings after dinner. We will have a couple of late nights doing the Pirate's and Pal's wishes cruise, Fantasmic and Illininations at Epcot but all the other evenings are free after dinner. I really want to see Illuminations from a beach as well as when we see it in Epcot. Which is the best location for us to watch from?

i would love any tips, suggestions or ideas for how to make the most of the resort. BTW how is the food at shutters? What are your favorites in the food court. We bought the dining plan (with TS). I've made my TS ADR's but have no idea about CS and Shutters may be a good TS option for our 1st night.

Is there any particular Pirate room that is better than the others that I should request?

Thanks!!:flower3:

Question about taxis.....

We usually don't rent a car and we don't mind using Disney transportation for the most part, but we usually end up using taxis a few times on each trip to get to resort dinners, early resort breakfasts, etc.

Does anybody know where the taxis pick up and drop off at CBR? I know that at most resorts they aren't allowed to pick up or drop off at your building, but at a central location. Does anybody know if it would be the Customs House or OPR? OPR wouldn't be bad, but we're in Trinidad South (pirate room) and having to be picked up and dropped off at the Customs House would be a pain since we'd still have to use the internal shuttle.

Anybody know?

Does the time you check in have any bearing on what room you get or if you will get your "requests"?

We are arriving late Saturday night (8/15) and staying at POP and then moving to CBR on Sunday. I am trying to decide how to do the move and when to check in...we were planning on goik to AK that day.

Thoughts???

Does the CBR have towels at the pool? If you have to take them from your room but want to shower afterwards- where do you get enough towels? We are driving from Minnesota and it would save ALOT of room if we didn't need to bring our own! Thanks!!

There are towels at the main pool. You can either pick up some extra for the quiet pool or take the ones from your room and call mousekeeping for more.

We did both of these things when we were there in June, no problem. We also left a note with our tip for mousekeeping asking for extra towels one day and they left us a bunch.:thumbsup2

I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think the walk from CBR to Epcot is like walking from the YC/BC, Dolphin, Swan, or Boardwalk. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to do it. I know they are close in proximity, but I am pretty certain there is not a walking path. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Regardless, you will love CBR. The theming is great! Have you selected a preferred room or a standard room?

Thanks for the info...I think I got mixed up with the walking path at YC/BC....I was hoping for less bus travel...I definitely am not walking across a road or swamp or anything like that to get to Epcot...Lol:rotfl2:

We used taxis a couple times when we were at CBR in February. We called and requested one, though. We did this because we needed to be sure to get a van with a car seat. The front desk told us we had to meet the taxi at the Custom House, then transferred the call. The cab company, however, asked for the building number and we were picked up right outside our building. Call ahead, they will come to you.

CBR is not within walking distance to any park. Although it is not far from Epcot and DHS, there are no walking paths. We are staying there for the first time next week so I cannot give any details, but we have driven through the property and it is beautiful.

Thanks, I was hopnig for a SAFE path to Epcot! No jungles or Florida swamps! I am excited about see ing the resort! Thanks!

While it's true that CBR is across the street from Epcot, it's across the street from the back of World Showcase, so it's not like you can just enter Epcot back there (and no, it's nowhere near the International Gateway, either).

If you were in Aruba 56, the CBR building closest to Epcot, you could walk across the parking lot and the access road, walk across the grass to the edge of the resort, cross Buena Vista Drive, walk across a field and a marsh, climb a chain-link fence with barbed wire on top, walk through the minefield and the alligator-infested swamp, scale a 20-foot wall, and then if the sharpshooters don't pick you off, you'll find youself backstage between Italy and Germany in World Showcase. :happytv:

That's awesome! A real life obstacle course with real swamps and marshes! Whoo hoo! Lol

I was just thinking that there might be a walking path to get to a park, versus always taking the bus! But, that's ok...bus, it is!:thumbsup2

Where are the pools located? AND, which pools are the best for kids? We have gotten a pirate standard room, and I am not sure if that puts us in a desirable location for transportation, along with the idea that I am not sure that there are any good pools near us! Can anyone help??

It is easy to get around CBR. You can walk to the food court/game room/ gift shop/ main pool easily from any room or take the within resort bus; we walked. There is a bus stop for each village so all rooms are close to transportation.

Each village has a quiet pool so there will be a pool steps from your room as well as the main pool. The main pool has all the attractions: slide, kiddie area, hot tubs, pool bar, towels and life jackets.

The Pirate Rooms are located in the Trinidad South Village of the resort. That village has its own Quiet Pool, Laundry and Bus Stop. There are quite a few buildings there, but it should be adequate for the village.

Can anyone tell me what time the concierge desk is open at OPR? We have a room only ressie on 8/15, and our Free Dining Package begins on 8/16. We have an ADR at Tusker House at AK on 8/16 at 9:00 am. We will need to have new KTTW cards reissued in the morning on the 16th, so I need to get them as soon as possible. I'm trying to see if I can get them at OPR's Concierge desk or if I will need to go to the Custom House.

I'm trying to decide where to stay for my Disney Wedding. We're getting married in Epcot, and while my first choice would be Yacht/Beach club. I know DFi would love the pirates room. He and the other boys will get ready here on the morning of the wedding, and I'll get a studio at beach club or a room at yacht.

How close to the main building are the pirate rooms? We're going to have a limo come and pick up the grooms party, and don't know if they limo can come to their building and at 7am it'll be early.

Thanks.
