Care Package Suggestions?

DH's best friend since middle school was just diagnosed with AML leukemia. He is in his early 30s and living and working in a state seperate from his family (he is an only child). His parents are with him now and I am thinking of sending a care package to his Mom. As far as I know, she has not left the hospital, or if she is, only for brief periods. What sort of items would be most helpful?

I really have no idea what would be suitable but I think what ever you did would be a lovely thought. At the end of the day people just like to know that your care about them.

You are very thoughtful and I hope things improve for this family.

I'm not sure what you have in mind, and I'm basing my suggestions on what many people in the UK would send, but I hope this is useful.

Perhaps a few personal luxuries might be a comfort for your friend. What about a fragranced hand cream - lavender is very calming, a glossy magazine, a small box of Godiva chocolates, home-made mini muffins or cupcakes. Also a notebook and pen might help the family make a record of their son's journey through his illness. Would Mum like to read out loud to her son if he doesn't feel well enough to read himself - perhaps you could include a book he would enjoy.

On the 3 occasions I've been in hospital I have appreciated a gentle hand and foot massage to relax me, your friend might like some aromatherapy massage oil she could use on her son.

I would send some magazines or books, gum/mints, some fresh smelling body lotion...or any other personal care items you might think she would like. I am not sure if they are religious people but if they are, maybe something pertaining to their religion (ie: rosary beads if they are catholic).
My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your friend (and the family)..
