Cardiff University and the imaginary degree

Well, the University of Cardiff has decided that my mum has earned a degree in Architecture in the last few years. She never went to University and has contacted them pointing out this error. But hey won't take no for an answer! Indeed, we just moved house and SOMEHOW they've found us! Not using forwarders or anything! Bizarre!

My guess is a scam. Let me guess, it's a letter and it says to write a check to get the diploma/certificate mailed.

It's a University flier she's been getting. She phoned them up on multiple occasions, each time they have apologised and promised to fix the fault. But they persist on posting her congratulating her for her "hard work".

I get junk mail like that sometimes. The last round they had me down as a school teacher. I think they just buy the name and address data from someone and send a mass mailing out, hoping they get enough people to bite to pay for the mailing expense.

That's the weird thing. No money has ever crossed hands and none has been asked for. Not in the last 4, 5 years this has been going. They honestly think my mum has a degree with them when she profoundly tells them she doesn't. In the mean time, she gets un update on University goings-on and a Bachelor's pressed upon her!

Sorry, it says Cardiff University on the mail outs. I'd be suspicious if they were asking for something like money, but since they aren't actually asking for anything and haven't done over this whole multi-year experience make me sure it's a clerical error that they're too lazy to sort. As it stands, they only stand to lose out on the mailing costs.
