My DH and I are learning to play so we were playing Texas Hold em the other night. Let me see if I can explain this. The 5 cards that are face up were all clubs so a flush, right?

My highest card in my hand was an Ace and my husband's highest card was a Queen but he also had a 2 of clubs. Do I win or does he win?

thanks if you can help us out, $5,000 bet (not real money) on this lol

If you both have a flush, high card wins, so the ace. If you would have both had aces, it would go to the next highest card all the way down until one card is higher than the other.

we both did not have a flush, my DH just had a 2 of clubs.

Oh oh I understand now. Sorry didn't read well the first time. So was the 5 card flush the best hand both of you had? If so, rules say you actually split the pot if neither of you used your own cards!

If there was a flush down on the table with the 5 community cards (the flop, the turn, and the river), then you each had a flush. A poker hand is 5 cards and you take the best 5 cards you can between the community and your hand (the hole). Since only 5 cards are used and you both have the same cards, it's a tie.

A kicker is a card which is part of the five-card poker hand, but is not used in determining a hand's rank. For instance, in the hand A-A-A-K-Q, the king and queen are kickers. You can only use kickers to break a tie if your hand takes less than 5 cards, the kicker is not part of your playing hand. If your hand takes all 5 cards (a straight, a flush, etc) then you have no cards left for the kicker.

thank you! So we split the pot because we didn't use any of our own cards.

I've never heard of flop, turn, river but thank you so much for all this info. I will show this to DH.

Now, should this ever happen again in the future, if your husband would have had, say, a 7 of clubs and not a 2, and the lowest community card was a 5 of clubs, he could put his 7 of clubs into the flush instead to make it higher and then win if that makes sense.
