Does anyone have any ideas on where a sports team could hold a carwash? Our gym is off the beaten path so it would not be a great location. Any suggestions and/or experience with setting up a car wash fundraiser?
we had one when I was in HS we got the local police station to allow us to do it there... they donated all the stuff to us as well (ie soap buckets water) Its good to live in a small town sometimes...
We had a local grocery store (not a chain) that would let us hold one in their parking lot. The dads who had girls on the team would set up a Brat/Hotdog stand, and they would buy all the buns and meat from the grocery store, who would in turn let them use a small room inside for prep. It worked very well and the team made quite a bit of money doing this.
We have a local K-Mart that is great for car washes, also our Publix (grocery store) is good. My boyfriend's band just did a car wash at an auto store...Discount Auto Parts maybe? Ask around! I think the biggest thing is try to find a location that is busy or near a big road and ask for donations!
It seems like every weekend during the summer there is one in the high school parking lot. The only thing that bothers me is seeing teenage girls in skimpy bikini tops standing on the sidewalk "luring" the customers in.
the groups in our former area used to make a whole lot more money over traditional car washes by doing them like a read a thon. they would get pledges for an amount per car they washed then do 'free car wash' signs to get tons of takers. it was the very rare exception that any of the car owners did not tip a few to $5 per car, so if you had 10 kids that washed one car you ended up earning maybe .25 per kid (so $2.50) plus the tip.
our local grocery store let them use the side lot-they figured that the car owners would go inside and likely grab a few items while the kids were washing the cars.
You probably want to do the car wash to build team spirit, but . . . Did you know that Autobell will let nonprofits sell certificates for car washes and that the selling group keeps half the proceeds? I just bought one of these for $13 from one our neighbors. I'm sure she sold a ton of them and at $6.50 a car that would add up pretty quickly.
We're in a long-term water shortage here, and parking lot car washes wouldn't be allowed any
not sure if they still do it but Walmart used to let you have them there and then they would match your earnings.. Our walmart was so hard to get a spot...
My son's class recently sponsored one in conjunction with a bottle drive. It was held in the parking lot of a business owned by a classmate's father. We didn't charge a set amount, but asked for donations. We made $523 in 3.5 hours, which wasn't bad considering it was a cloudy, almost misty day! The bottle drive brought in about $900
