I'm travelling with a 10 month old and it just dawned on me--what about a car seat? We will be taking the Magical Express to and from the airport and then Disney transportation the rest of our stay. Do I need to bring his car seat? Are they allowed on shuttles?

You cannot use car seats on magical express or the Disney buses....so if that is the only way you plan to travel then you can leave the carseat home. If you think you might take a cab then you might bring it with you just in case.

we typically do not take a seat- we don't use them on the plane and since we always have shuttles we just leave it at home- and we have been able to get cabs with carseats in them the 2 times we have gone to Sea World. So I would not worry about it.

If the 10 month old has their own seat on the plane - definitely bring the car seat.

Please bring the carseat, not for the shuttle, when you cant use it, but for the airplane. You need to secure the precious baby into his own seat. Even if you dont have a ticket for him, the airline will let you use an empty seat.

Bringing a carseat on a plane is a personal choice. I have 2 relatives that work for airlines and say it is not needed. Just go with how you feel.

because that was the way our child was use to traveling. It was routine and normal. We did not remove them from the seat just the same as we would not remove them from the seat in the car -not an option. Of course, bathroom visits don't count. We felt safe and secure, as did our child. I believe car seats have to be airline certified so you might check in to that.

If you haven't purchased a seat on the plane, DON'T assume that there will be extra seats for him like a PP suggested. Especially on a flight to Orlando.

If you didn't buy a seat for him on the plane, don't take the car seat. My guy (also 10 mos) did great on all the disney transportation sitting on my lap and looking out the window.

Thank you all for your information. We did not purchase him a seat on the advice of our travel agent and I do doubt there being an extra seat on our flight, but I appreciate the suggestions.

About the cab to Sea World--did you have to request the cab with a carseat? Was that through your hotel? Also, if you don't mind me asking since we are on the subject, how much was the fare?

Thanks everyone for your input.

Every flight to Orlando form different airports has always been full for us.
I think you can ask your hotel to call a cab and have them request a car seat too.

If you plan on taking a taxi, I would strongly recommend you take your own car seat. You can request a carseat from a taxi but there is no guarantee that the seat they provide will be not be dirty, broken, expired, not the right size for your child. Road in Florida are just as dangerous as roads everywhere else. If you take a taxi, take your carseat.

I have rarely heard of any dirty or bad carseats in the Orlando area. I don;t know if it's cause they serve Disney or what, but usually hear good reviews on them. Now I have heard that someone got one in the Bahamas that was really bad once while sailing with Disney.

I dont know why your agent would make such a recommendation. The flight attendents association has been lobbying for nearly 20 years to make seats mandatory for infants, because too many are injured on routine flights and many have been killed in accidents in which their parents walked away.

Again, personal choice. I don't think this post is about lecture. And like I said, I have relatives who are airline attendents and told us don't bother with a seat.

ITA about bringing ur own seat esp for the taxi...who knows what kind of seat they will give you and if all looks good on the outside of the seat how do u know it hasnt been in an accident?
And i would def try getting him a seat on the plane.god forbid you get into a run way accident or have an emergency landing (like they recently had in NY) its just like an accident in the car.
Have a great trip!

I agree. Fat jokes really have nothing to do with this and are mean. I have been up and down on the scale and no matter my size, plane seats are small for all. Very poor taste for someone who is so new to posting here.

there was a mimivan taxi at our hotel waiting everyday for anyone who needed one- I am sure you could request one if there isn't one there-the seats were fine - buckled up well, clean and all that good stuff- I really can't remember how much it was I want to say 40 but I think that was round trip? Good Luck and have fun!!

Untrue.

I think its totally a personal choice. For us, we have always gone the *lap child* route when ours were under 2, I will tell you its a PITA if you need to use the restroom or want to drink something and the baby slaps your hand, etc.

Our children are now over 2 and 4 1/2, so obviously we bought 4seats. I was planning to bring their carseats until I was told the ME does not allow them since there are no seatbelts. I am now planning to buy the CARES airline harness, to me .. its the best of both worlds .. no lugging a huge seat with us through the airport and my children can be safe.

I actually had a flight attendant get snippy with me over my son being on my lap ... She said the only safe place for a child was in their own seat in their harness on the plane, then proceeded to tell me I was *rolling the dice* by having my son on my lap ... ugh.

Do what feels right for your family!

I would bring it. You never know about the car seats in taxi's and it is best for them to be in their car seat in their own plane seat as well.

We plan to take DD in to WDW in Sept for her 2nd birthday. She will turn 2 two days after we plan to arrive and she will have her own plane seat to and from and she will be in her car seat (Britax Marathon). I wouldn't trust her life to some random taxi car seat.
