I'm going the opposite way (driving Vancouver to Seattle after cruise), but I'm using National - there is a National location at the Pan Pacific in Vancouver.

I am unable to find a way to reserve a car in Seattle and drop off in Vancouver during the cruise, however. Since it is out of the U.S. that must be the issue. It will give "no availability" if you try to reserve that, but plenty of cars if you pickup and return both to Seattle. Will have to pay to park it during the cruise, I guess. :confused3

We, too, are flying into Seattle for our cruise next year and had researched the ability to drive to Vancouver. We quickly discovered it is a complicated process and, for the most part, discouraged. So we opted for the Amtrak train from Seattle to Vancouver. Heard the ride is lovely and the fare is very good ($110 RT per person). I think that would amount to being cheaper than paying for parking, gas and the car rental. And then there's no hassle involved. ;)

That is $55 each way. That seems high to me but maybe it is peak season. I would think $25-$35 each way would be available. Keep in mind that only certain times each day use a train. The other times are by motorcoach but ironically those are quicker. There are several discounts available and last i heard fares are refundable with just a 10% penalty charge.

You know what, I think it was $110 each way for the three of us! Thanks for pointing that out. I wasn't thinking about the number of passengers I had put in. The refundable information is good to know also.

$37 per person each way seems much more like it. I live in Bellingham, the northernmost US stop, and was able to book a round trip to Portland for about $40 each way.

The Amtrak Cascades route is beautiful, I suggest trying to sit on the west side (left northbound, right southbound) for views of the water, islands, and Olympic Peninsula. And the Talgo trains they use on the route are very nice and comfortable onboard.

An alternative to Amtrak or car rental is the Quick Shuttle. They can drive you from the Seattle airport to the cruise terminal, except for the May 3 sailing. At $99 per person round trip they are considerably more expensive than Amtrak, but they will take you right to the cruise terminal and they are a lot cheaper than parking a rental car for the week.

Cutting and copying this great information. Thanks for taking the time to post!

Now, a request for more suggestions: We are trying to fit in Portland and Seattle on this trip -- one pre-cruise and one post-cruise (not sure which one we are doing first -- depends on airfare). If we cover them and Alaska, we will have been to all 50 states!

So, recommendations on transporting to and from Portland to Vancouver? Thanks.

There are six of us traveling. We are flying in to seattle and renting a mini van to get to Vancouver. We arranged with our hotel to park but have to pay. It will not be cheap but it is still cheaper than all of us flying in to Vancouver. Wish we could do two one way rentals but that wasn't an option between the two cities.

We have the same idea, although we are starting in Vancouver and doing both Seattle and Portland post cruise. Trying to figure out the best way to get from Vancouver to Seattle post cruise with all the luggage (National is sold out) and then renting a car in Seattle to drive down to Portland.
