Car Rental Question??

My sister is travelling from the UK to Orlando and has rented a car through Netflights along with her air travel. She has the insurance package that came with it.

My question is if I want to be an additional driver on it, and I have a Canadian drivers licence, will they allow me to be a driver? My Canadian insurance I have covers me to drive a rental car without taking the rental car company's insurance coverage.

I will post this on the Canadian planning forum too to see if anyone can help.

This is taken from the T&C's on Netflights website, no idea why but unfortunately it says you cannot be added, I can only suggest contacting Dollar/Thrifty direct and ask or ask at the desk on collection:

Additional Drivers - US and Canadian driving licence holders cannot be added on as additional drivers.

Additional Drivers - are charged for on collection of the vehicle. The fee's change depending on the depot however are no more than $10 per day + tax.

Additional drivers can only be added to the rental agreement when collecting the vehicle, or by revisiting a Dollar rental depot during the hire. All additional drivers must present a full and valid driving license. If they hold one of the new UK photo style licenses it is essential that they produce both the photo card license and it's accompanying paper portion. The photo license alone will not be accepted. The associated charge must be paid directly to Dollar Rent a Car.

If the platinum option is taken you can add additional drivers free of charge.

Thanks, I had read the T&C's too, I wondered if it would make a difference on check in when they see that I have my own insurance.

I am beginning to think it would be better to cancel the car insurance and book again direct with a North American travel company.

The crazy part is, DH & I are already renting a car ourselves, but since we live in Canada and are used to the driving, were trying to do my sister and her family a favour by being additional drivers for them so that they could relax and enjoy the scenery!

Oh well, back to the drawing board!
