Car rental at Swan/Dolphin?

I usually rent from Alamo, but I looked at the 10% off PREPAID cost of a small car from January 21 to January 26 and I was shocked to learn that the cost would be about $350.00. Our air fare from Chicago is about 400.00! We don't use the car much, but my husband likes to have it. I think its a guy thing. We are scheduled to arrive at MCO at 10:30 am and leave on Friday at about 3 (getting to the airport about 1 or so). We like to drive straight to the resort and check in early to get a good room. Does it cost less to rent a car away fromt he airport? I think I've heard that there are car rentals at Swan Dolphin. We are staying at BCV. Has anyone had any experience taking ME and then renting a car at Swan/Dolphin? Does anyone have any tips for that week on car rental prices? Dollar for an economy car at MCO with Costco codes would be $238.00 which is better. But I'm wondering that if we take ME and rent for a day or two we might be better off. Any suggestions?

I was dealing with Hertz because I am flying out of Milwaukee with Midwest and they will give me 45% off. I wanted to pick the car up too in downtown Orlando and she said they she couldn't give me that great of a discount.

Look into National which is at the Car Center at WDW. Go to mousesavers and she always has coupons and codes to use to get your rate down.

I look at prices everyday and some days the prices are so high and then the next day they come down. So keep looking.

National and Alamo are also located at the Swan/Dolphin Resort area; only negative is they close at 4:00 p.m. I too found rental car rates hard to justify for this September. We are going to take ME to the resort and pick up the car at Dolphin the following day, after we leave Epcot midday, and return it the day before our trip, after we leave Epcot midday, and take ME back to the airport. Not ideal, but saves us about $100. The rate I found at National at Dolphin for 5 full days for a compact using Am Ex and ND41 coupon was for a total, after tax, of $112. :thumbsup2 Not too bad for right now. I am still going to keep an eye out for the National rates at the airport. I still think the airport pick-up, with Emerald Aisle, would be the easiest. :goodvibes

The rates are about the same at the Car Care Center, but I have heard there can be long lines there and I don't think it would be any easier for us to get to. Anyone have any better suggestions?? :confused3
