I am visiting Disney in October and the lowest car rental quote I found for 3 nights is $173 after all of the fees. Is this good? Every other quote was over $200 so I feel like it could be a good deal, I just can't believe that I will be spending that much for 3 days?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

I'm paying, with tax and fees, $167 for 8 days in early September, via Priceline.

Keep looking, start with Orbitz to get an idea of prices. Use your discounts, AAA, Costco, coupons in the mail, etc.

Have you ever used Priceline?

I haven't rented a car in over ten years. We have always stayed on sight so we didn't need one. I don't really remember all of the ins and outs of car renting. Thank you very much for your advice, I will definitely keep looking!

Here's a link to Mousesavers car rental page --

http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html

they do a good job summarizing the various discounts available.. Car rentals have really gone up - we got sticker shock this year. If you have AAA, Hertz is probably your best bet. If not, Alamo has some good discounts.

Keep checking frequently -- rates go up and down a lot. Good Luck

I now always use www.carhire3000.com.

It's a european company, but the rates they are all inclusive. I found them much cheaper than booking directly with the rental companies which quoute only a base price and then you have to add taxes, insurance etc.

Though, when you live in the US, you maybe already have insurance coverage so you won't need this anymore.

Hello, Fishteacher! Scootert is correct - try the discounts on mousesavers. Additionally, I have found that I can get a cheaper ressie the closer I get to the date.

For example, I have had a rental booked months out with every trip. About a month before we leave, I check the rates daily. In 2007, I actually cut my cost in half the day before we left. Between timing and the mousesaver coupon code, I made out like a bandit.

Good luck, have a great trip, and keep working the numbers!

I have a couple of trips coming up where I need a rental car. Rather than wait for coupons, I purchased an Entertainment Book and have been able to get "decent" rates using their codes. I continue to check though for anything lower popping up...so far nothing lower has materialized.

I am a bit picky about what car company I go with because some charge extra fees for a second driver, some you have to go to the counter, etc. I like National Car Rental and have a mid-size booked for 8 nights in late September (Orlando) for a total cost of $217 using the Entertainment Book contract ID and $30 off coupon. This is without the insurance coverage as I get that through my car insurance and the credit card I will be using.
