Car Parks

But nothing to stop you getting a bus from the resorts to a park. As I said its totally not worth the hassle to me but is it against Disneys rules?

The wording on the Disney website is saying it is allowed. Here it is

Transportation to and from the Downtown Disney area is available via bus throughout Walt Disney World Resort and is complimentary for Walt Disney World Resort hotel Guests. For Park Guests choosing to drive, complimentary self-parking is also available.

Surely that just means you can visit DTD by bus or by car?
It doesn't say that you can drive to DTD and park all day in order to get a bus to a resort you're not staying at in order to get a bus to the park you want to visit.
Your quote refers to DTD as the destination not as a staging post for another destination.

But it doesn't say you can't, I am not condoning it but if the rules are not clear people will do it.

I've never seen any signs saying you can't park there and visit the parks but I would say that as there is no direct bus service it is "actively discouraged".

I would say certainly discouraged, frowned upon by many but if its not clearly against Disney's rules and they don't do anything about it who are we to say you can't do it?

I would be more than happy if someone sends me a link to say it is against rules.

I agree with you entirely.
But you are bound to meet people with opposing views on these boards.
I think the WDW car parks are great value for money and that Virgin Upper Class is exorbitant. Others think the opposite.
Hey ho, such is life.

I would disagree with both of your comments.
How is putting your vehicle on a piece of tarmac repaired once every ten years for $12 a day reasonable?

How is better seating, better crew to passenger ratio, more luggage allowance than you could possibly use, a flat bed for sleeping, the use of a waiter/ess service clubhouse, proper meals on proper china, priority boarding and exiting, for around £1,060 compared to economy (31" pitch, and lower baggage allowance) for £400-700? exhorbitant?

Upper Class gets you there in comfort and gets you home in a refreshed state to drive safely home, Disney car parks get you a slab of tarmac to rent at costs per sq mtr higher than your hotel room charges!

However, with UC, you can make the choice not to pay it and fly a cheaper option.
Disney car parks do not give you that option. Take it or leave it.
Theoretically, getting the bus to Boardwalk from DTD does get you to a park or two if you then use the water boat, so whilst the busses only go to resorts, this one gets you to EPCOT and Disney MGM

if you have valid entry media you can utilise the disney transportation system any way you like.
Me i am opposed to people parking at DD and walking to SSR to use there buses there was a time when you had to show your KTTW to board resort buses, which would stop this abuse
But sadly in the economic environment people will look to save cost but if you want to save a few $ and lose a bit of time travelling to and from parks then do it

and when DD originally opened they did have buses to and from the parks, until disney foun that people parked there cars there and used the buses to go to the parks

Whether or not people have to pay for parking at home, the fact is that at WDW you do and the same is true for all the other Orlando theme parks. In the UK you also pay it at Alton Towers and i'm sure most other theme parks here aswell (haven't been to any others in years so can't say for certain, but I know AT is part of the Tussauds Group so I can't see it being different for other parks owned by them at least)
Even for a 21 day trip it's $252 total (and that's with visiting a park every one of those 21 days which I doubt most people do) which considering the good value of multi-day Disney tickets isn't ridiculous IMO. There is a Lynx bus to the TTC from which you can use the Disney buses to get to the other parks and many off-site hotels have free shuttles so although the alternatives may be inconvenient they are there if someone is determined to not pay for parking and is staying in Orlando.
Like Wayne I wouldn't even consider doing the DTD to the parks bus thing, might be saving money but i'd feel I would be 'spending' more in precious time.

It was never my intent for this to descend into a debate on morals. Rather to provide factual information on how to save money - without contravening rules/policy. That being said if i am wrong, or things have changed then I apologise, but I did clearly ask if this was the case at the outset. People seem keen to save money on hotels, car hire, tickets etc etc but for some reason parking has touched a nerve with some. I can more than afford to pay the parking charges, so do not consider I should rethink my holiday destination as one poster suggested. That being said, and if within the rules I and anyone else can choose to park at DTD should they wish, dependant on budgets or inclination.

Its a subject that always raises objecting views as there are no clear rules (or none I can find) OP question was answered so enough said now.
