Virgin Holidays now allow you to book car hire without a holiday and the terms imply you can book with a debit card. Anyone had any experience of this, though I did book with virgin Holidays last year and paid up front didnt have a problem. Do you think it will be the same just with car hire? I dont use credit cards.

There terms below:

You will need a driving licence in English. If you have a licence written in another language you will require an International Driving permit.

If you have a UK licence then please take both parts with you.

USA or Canadian Driving licenses are not accepted.

Deposits
A Credit card is required. A Visa or Mastercard Debit card is also accepted but all other debit cards are not.

Alamo will take an authorisation on the credit card but no deposit amount will be taken. At time of pick up any additional items that have been purchased at the counter will be charged to the credit card.

Insurance Excesses
No excess is applicable. If you damage the car no charges apply unless you have violated the Rental Agreement.

i think you will be fine as my debit card is a visa, from natwest and it just says visa so no one in the states will know if its debit or credit as its the same sign now. not like the visa electron or solo debit cards

Are you getting your car through Virgin? I know last year you got it through USRENTACAR - but when I rang them they said I definitely couldnt get it through them without a credit card.

The price with Virgin is not bad we can get a 4x4 intermediate for around £320 for 10 nights which is fine for us:thumbsup2 Plus I get virgin air miles too

In Oct I just added a car to my booking and paid straight away. when we arrived at MCO just went straight to the Dollar desk, as we had only booked a flight and then a car not a complete package, hence not going to the virgin holiday dollar pick up. all they took was the print out voucher, my driving license, not the counterpart just card, and a credit card (which was never used)
Didn't try to sell me anything else except for the break down cover which i said no, was on my way in 10 min.

i never hand my card over to dollar when i rent with usrentacar as i have rented with them loads now and they never ask for it plus i dont have a credit card and just tell them that

this year we are going to book a fly drive with virgin holidays so will get their car this year and if they ask for a card when i get to mco then i will try the i dont have one line and if that dont work i will use my visa debit card
