We booked our car hire through Expedia when Burt:worship: and Wayne:worship:spotted a glitch on the Hertz booking. We ended up getting a full size car for £189 for 21 days. I know alot of people who use this site booked their car hire through Hertz at this time. Has anybody actually been on holiday yet and used Hertz after booking this deal? I keep worrying that when we arrive at MCO on August 2nd, Hertz will demand another £300 due to a mistake. Can anybody put my mind at ease? Also do we just take with us the receipt from Expedia or will Hertz send us something nearer the time? Thanks to everyone for your anticipated help.

Did you register for Hertz gold #1 account?
I did and there has been issues with that, they will not allow collection under this scheme with Expedia bookings (although some have managed it)
I logged into my hertz account and it said my Expedia booking had been cancelled, what actually happened was they cancelled that reservation number but issued me with another not connected to my hertz gold account, I now have to go to the regular desk, can't go straight to the garage. I also got hertz to email me with confirmation nothing was to pay on collection, all prepaid with Expedia which they did no problem.

If you didn't register with Hertz gold I believe all is good but wouldn't harm to email Hertz and ask for confirmation the have it record the reservation is prepaid.

Its been a bit of hassle for some people but for the savings hopefully worth it, cost us £197 for 25 nights full size:goodvibes after Quidco (which I recieved a few days ago)

We didn't book via this particular glitch, but back in 2007 we booked a Lincoln Navigator with Hertz out of Miami - £350 for 14 nights (one of their Prestige collection vehicles - should have been about £1400). When we collected the car, the agent asked if we minded telling her what we paid. She was clearly a bit surprised, but didn't say a word.

ETA: We also did it all under Gold No 1 Club.

From what I have read on the DIBB, if you booked via the Gold Club with Hertz, you will need to phone them to make sure everything is showing on the system as it should. Hertz are suppose to wading through all of the bookings and correcting them.

If like me you didn't book through the gold club, then everything will be fine and dandy. I phoned to check and was told my booking showed as pre-paid.

I'm looking forward to seeing what type of gas gluzler we have been allocated in August, as I booked a great big thing for the three of us. My DS thinks were getting a really small car due to tightening our belts, I can't wait to see his face when a nice 4X4 things is waiting for us.:thumbsup2 Good job we won't be doing too many miles this year.

Yep, just got back yesterday and used 21 days of 8 seat Chevrolet Tahoe (brand spanking new) for £331 total.

I got told I couldn't go straight to the garage with my Gold account as the European Gold is different to the American Gold (I suspect this was junk but didn't want to trek with family to be turned back and it paid off as the Tahoe was actually brought from elsewhere so I wouldn't have been able to choose it anyway)

Just used Expedia email receipt.

The only issue was having to queue for a considerable time as even with 6 desks open, they weren't exactly lightening quick.

One more plus note, no hard sell whatsoever, I had to ask for pre-pay fuel which was definitely worth it as it was only the same price as the pump within a cent or two.

Welcome home, glad it all went well.
I (and many others) have had emails saying our Gold cards will not be valid with Expedia bookings, we have to goto the regular desks.

whats s a gold card?
we got this glitch too...should i beconcerned?

Similar to Dollar Express, you bypass the regular desk to save time. Unfortunately Hertz & Expedia are emailing us all to say the gold card is not valid with these reservations.
Even though we can't use it to bypass the desks I am still hoping I can use it to add Karen to the booking, free spouse with gold card which saves $65.

Firstly I tried logging into my Hertz account to see my reservation, it said my reservation was cancelled (I expected this as everyone else had same)
I sent Hertz an email and asked to confirm my booking was prepaid by Expedia & I needed a new reservation number. I got this response

I would like to inform you that your reservation has been fully pre-paid and you will not be asked at the location to pay a second time for your car rental.

Please note that your new reservation number is (E1234567891) and that you will have to check in at the regular desk for the branch staff to open the rental agreement.

That is reassuring to hear that you weren't asked for any extra. I e-mailed Hertz yesterday asking them to confirm our booking but I am yet to receive a reply.

I think you should be prepared to queue I'm afraid, I was directly told to queue by a Hertz employee and I've been Hertz Gold (Europe) for a while not just the recent giveaways.

What was the glitch?[/QUOTE

All the prices were really low booking with Hertz compared to all the other rental companies. We paid £189 for 21 days with a full size car. I checked again the next day and the price had gone back to over £500.

What was the glitch?
Not sure exactly how it worked but basically we all paid for a weeks rental, didn't matter if you booked for 1 week or 4 weeks(I know someone who got 8 weeks for £503, no idea how that worked) it charged you the same, I got full size car 25 nights for £197.

I have heard of some being able to use their gold card on the early bookings with this glitch but it looks like they have clamped down on it and not allowing anyone now.

We recieved a confirmation email from Expedia, quoting an Expedia itinerary no, and a Hertz confirmation no.
Is it OK to just roll up with a copy of the email, or should I check beforehand?
Oh, and is Hertz onsite at the airport now? I seem to remember someone saying they were supposed to be moving back soon
Thanks!

Yes you just need a copy of the email. Did you join Hertz Gold #1? if you did then you could do to email them for a new res number, if you didn't join then all should be well but you could still email Hertz and ask if the system shows its prepaid.
They were back onsite at Easter when we were there, same place as Alamo, Dollar, Thrifty etc.

Hi Wayne,
I didn't know anything about Hertz Gold! (What is it?) The last few times we went we booked with Yes, but they went under last year, just after we got back:confused3
Do you have an email address for Hertz please? I think I will just check, then I can cross that off my list of worries!!!:)
