Car hire quote...is this a good price?

I have been looking at car hire prices for May, and this is the best I have come back with so far for an SUV,

May 8-22 sanford airport £283 from a company called rental cars.com

It's my first time renting so not sure if this is a good price or not or if this is a good company to book through. Any help appreciated

Having had a quick check I can find the same car with usrentacar for £10 less.

I would wait or book a rate you can cancel as there will probably be another round of deals before May.

Looks like you don't get to know the rental company until after you book. If you don't mond doing that then Arguscarhire is cheaper at £268 less 3% Quidco = £260

Personally I prefer to know who I am booking with so I would probably use ebookers/Alamo at £287 less 10% Quidco = £258 Had a very quick read of T&C's and looks like you can cancel upto 2 days out for £20 if a better deal comes up but check to confirm.

Nothing wrong with rentalcars.com if you want to use them, they are a Priceline company and been around a while.

No booking agent can tell you the make & model of the car you will get as you book a class of car and it will be down to the depot on the day which exact make & model you get - it's why it always says or similar.

I used rentalcars when they were car hire 3000 and they rang me to see if I wanted to go ahead with my quote - I said no as I didn't know which company it was and they told me over the phone. But as Wayne has found you a better price anyway that's a non-issue.

Also regarding fuel it depends which option you take - we nearly always take a gold option as we need 2 drivers and it cheaper than paying at the desk. Gold also includes fuel so we return the car empty but don't have to pay anything. They will always swipe a card for security.

If you don't take gold you don't have to prepay fuel - you can just return full.

Thanks for that recommendation. We need a rental car for Italy in the autumn and I was shocked at what Hertz and Avis are currently asking. We have about 6-10 rentals a year with these 'big boys' and are not novices at getting good prices. rentalcars.com came up when I did a search and the prices were far more realistic. I'm not rushing to book but they stand a good chance of getting our business, at least in Italy. Good to hear from someone who has used them
