Can someone please tell me about the food at Captain Cook @Poly? Thinking about staying there but not sure about the food.

Thanks :goodvibes

I would first say, I wouldn't base my resort stay at any resort on the restaurants, particularly the counter service, on a Disney property when you have so many other choices closeby.

Captain Cook's is a counter service that serves a breakfast menu, followed by lunch and dinner, mostly the same menu. They have other offerings such as baked goods (bagels, toasts, pastries, muffins, etc.), refrigerated items such as drinks, yogurts, fruit, cheese plates, veggies, salads, etc. They have snack items such as cereal, chips, Pop Tarts, candy bars, ice cream, Dole Whips. They have fountain drink stations with soft drinks, coffee, teas and hot chocolate.

The hot breakfast items include a typical breakfast platter with eggs, breakfast meats, etc. They have Tonga Toast, waffles and other traditional breakfast items.
Lunches and dinners they have burgers, salads, sandwiches, flatbreads (pizza). They have a few items with a Polynesian flair like a chicken noodle bowl, Hawaiian flatbread, a pork sandwich, stirfry veggies and Polynesian chips as sides.
You can view their menu on allearsnet.com
Whether it appeals to you or not, only you will know, but they have pretty standard counter service fare along with some other unique items.

We stayed at POP and hopped over to the Poly to go to Captain Cooks for the Dole Whips.

We thought it was a nice little food court. Sizewise it was very small (well, compared to POP) but we thought it was pretty nice.

I think if you eat outside at the right time you can see quite a bit of the Wishes fireworks.

Thanks I just have a hard time making my mind up. I love CR, GF, and Poly.
So I was comparing the counter services.

DoleWhip sounds good :goodvibes

Good Golly! They are all a monorail or a short walk away (Poly to GF):goodvibes
We've stayed at the Poly many times and go to GF (DD loves their flatbread there the best) and CR for cs meals.
We've stayed at GF and have gone to Poly for meals.
So easy!

(Honestly, we care for Gasparilla's the least, but it wouldn't stop me from staying there...)
I honestly like Captain Cook's the best out of the 3 since I'm good with their choices and it is convenient to use for the most part.
Staying there, we also get a little Dole Whip crazy!:cloud9:

My favorite item on their menu is the Adult Grilled Cheese, however I would always order it without the Blue Cheese.

Just finished an 8 day stay at the Poly, and cc was the worst restruant we ate at. The kids chicken nuggets were gross, and my kids love them. My wife had to send her fish meal back 2 times and it was still super dry. May I suggest the Contempo Cafe, the sandwiches are great, and watching the monorail glide by is a plus. Be forewarned that the DIS boards are not the most objective places to recieve unbiased advice.

We loved captain cooks at the poly - adult grilled cheese and the aloha pork sandwich. There are some pics in my dining review - link in my signature.

we love captain cooks! me and my hubby enjoyed a great breakfast there one morning (tonga toast :) was great!) and then had lunch there another day...he got the burger and i got the aloha pork sandwich. both were really yummy!

We didn't mind Captain Cooks. My husband was most impressed that it is open 24 hours, so he could get something whenever he was hungry. In our opinion, all breakfast food tastes the same! We had lunch there only once or twice, and I don't remember it being bad. LOL. We did, however, enjoy Kona Cafe and 'Ohana as a treat.

I love the atmosphere at the Polynesian, so unless they only served mud in a cup, I could go there again.

Three Words: Aloha.Pork.Sandwich....
Two More Words: Dole.Whip... :thumbsup2

Ok... so that's 5 words... you get the point. :)

We have stayed at the Poly many times and really enjoy CC. The breakfast is your typical CS stuff. The salads are good but get them without the rubbery chicken. LOVE the lo mein, the house made chips, the adult grilled cheese is awesome! Great BBQ pork sandwich. Do not like the flatbreads at all.

I'm really about to switch from CR to Poly. The pork sandwhich sounds so good and my DH loves DoleWhip. I can see him getting some at 3 a.m. while me and the kids sleep.

Or eating DoleWhip and watching the fireworks. :lovestruc

The grill at Captain Cook's closes at 11:00 PM, so even if your husband wanted one that late he couldn't get them.

We loved the Tonga toast and bacon from Captain Cooks for breakfast when we stayed there in August, don't get anything like it in the UK!
