Capt. Jack's Wenches (&swabbies) lose the weight for 8/08 Getting our Magic back!

Some of my surgery buds were holding a two week scale strike....

As of yesterday and roughly 3 months after my surgery...

i am down 40 lbs..(forever as we say)

then i just had to weigh myself today and the scale lost another 2 lbs....

(i'll take today's weight thank you)

It's been alot harder than i thought...

Your mind is used to eating one way and you have to think about the new way.

Um, it's been over a month since any of us have had anything to say here

Ok, here's my mini-update. I lost my 10lbs before my April vacation. Only gained 2 back in the 2 weeks we were gone  Life has been crazy since our return, including a last-minute trip to California for a business meeting. I've lost my 2-vacation-lbs, but I haven't really been all that dedicated. I need to get re-motivated. My next goal is to lose another 10 lbs before DH's 40th b-day in early July.

Yes, pretty funny cause i was going to revive the thread this morning...

I'm down another 10 (so 50 total since Feb 8). Hoping that 10 a month stays pretty steady through the end of this year....

By TOAL i'll have to Budget for a whole new wardrobe!!!

Kristina you are doing a great job, I wish I had your courage to do the type of surgery you have.

I am so embarassed I started this thread and have yet to lose any weight. I tried the medifast thing for a week but couldn't do it due to the grossness of the food(if you can call it that). So it is back to WW I go.. I have decided that I just need to take my time so I have made it a 2 lb a week goal, should have most if not all of my weight off by then. If not well every little bit that I do lose will be better than nothing. I can do this!

Having been on just about every diet every....

I agree with you that Medifast is pretty gross..

I did have some success with WW. It was the counting points that drove me off the deep end...

Whoops ... guess these last few weeks of eating what I want and skipping the exercise are starting to creep back up on me  2lbs to the bad on the scale this morning :headache:

Actually, this is probably just the kick in the backside that I needed to KEEP going and being "good". So far this week I've played 9 holes of golf carrying my clubs (supposed to burn about 1000 calories), done one Total Body workout with 5, 7, and 9lb weights, one 30 minute cardio workout with 3lb weights, and kept my calories right around 1500 for the past 2 days. One thing that I MUST get back into the groove on is drinking my water. Just been grabbing Diet Coke much too often.

Kristina, congrats on hitting the 50lb mark. How are you feeling these days? Keep up the good work :cheer2:

That is awesome! Keep moving & the lbs. will come off.

I need to get back on WW. I was training for my race & ate whatever I wanted, end result - I didn't lose an ounce. I have a photo DH took of me from behind crossing the finish line and all I can think is "I just ran a freeking triathlon, why is my butt so big???" I want to be 10lbs. lighter before we start our cross country trip in about a month. I don't need any extra weight before spending 3 weeks eating restaurant food and sitting in the car!

So I quit WW. I knew I was going to since the only meeting time that I could get to was on Sat morning at 7:30am and the site was about 30 minutes away, leaving me to have to get up and out the door at 6:30 NOT going to happen! Also with travel and other things going on I missed a few meetings and it was just a pain! So yes I am full of excuses today! But I will say that I lost about 10 pounds with WW, of course it took me 2 months to do it. So it was worth some of it! Now onto other interesting news.
At my last meeting I sat next to this great woman who was in the same predicament I was in! She however had found a solution to her issue and passed on a little info to me and here I am passing it you ya’ll! WW does have an online tool that you can do and apparently there is a fee involved. She however found this site www.sparkpeople.com and it is totally free! They have you set up a things including weight and goals and of course your email. I have been using it for two weeks now and I have lost 10 more pounds. The great thing about the site is that they do a meal plan for you for a whole week based on the calories you need for successful weight loss. Since DH has high BP I added that I needed low sodium in my diet and it keeps track of everything, carbs, calories, ect. With that meal plan comes a weeks grocery list that you can print out and take to the store. DH has no clue that I have been working off this diet plan and so far everyone likes the meals. The plan at first seemed boring until I noticed that you can add things you like and such. I am still getting to know the site but for now it looks promising. They also help you out with exercise and motivation. I figured I would pass it on incase some of us in the group need a little extra help and can’t or don’t want to spend the extra cash!

I got weighed in at WW Friday and my total loss is 28.4!!

I have *****to go before our TOAL!

Cheering:cheer2: you all on,

Karen

Oh jeesh ... after that great "talking to" that I gave on Thursday ... I went off track for the weekend :headache: I did get a workout in on Thursday night, I went heavy on the weights and kind of over did it. I was in pain ... and not the good, I-worked-out-hard pain either on Friday.

NOW, with that being said ... I got the scale yesterday and was back DOWN two pounds :confused3 W h a t e v e r  I did manage to get a cardio w/light weights (3 lb) workout in yesterday. AND I got myself out of bed early this morning to get in another cardio workout. I tried to go up to 5lb weights ... but it just wasn't happening. Getting up early is NOT something that I'm good at ... but this morning the darn birds were making it impossible to sleep anyway :lmao: I'm kind of hoping that the birds are noisy again tomorrow because I've got some commitments after work that will make a workout really difficult.

Thanks for posting about this thread. I didn't know it was here. I had a rough year and put on quite a bit extra weight. I also have stopped exercising, so while losing weight is a big goal, I will do it by eating better and exercising.

Happy New Year everyone!!

I'm in (again:rolleyes1 )

I want to lose 66 pounds
Stop drinking PEPSIs
Eat better
Work out 30 minutes a day-5 times a week

I plan to start on Wednesday.:cheer2:

I'm in too:goodvibes

New Year's Resolutions:

I'm planning to walk, 40 minutes a day, at least 5 days a week.
I need to take lunch into work more (much easier to control what I eat that way).
I also need to up the fruits and vegetables.
If I can get going on these things the weight will follow.

The weather is fairly nice here today so I'm off for a walk:woohoo:

What do you guys bring in for lunch ?
I'm tired of lean cuisines and need some ideas.

All of the above and more. My problem is DH is so unmotivated , I get depressed and mope around as well.I think I really need to stick to it by myself this year. In fact I just may go to the gym today and let him sit in the lobby .:rotfl:
The weather is always nice here so that is not my excuse.
Food at work is very bad. They will serve 2 choices with the meal, starch and starch.
I USED to put either a chicken breast or salmon on the George Forman while I was making my breakfast and steam some veggies. Will really need to get back on track. We really don't eat fried foods very much so that isn't the issue. Let's hope for a healthy New Year.
I have a few sites with healthy menus. If anyone is interested.

My problem is work. Don't get me wrong I love it, but as a result I work too much and don't do things I should do (exercise!). I also work at home so it's easy to get into the trap of working all the time and also very easy to get something to eat, anything, at any time.

A couple years ago I made a New Years resolution to work out at least 5 days a week. It could be minimal, at least 10 minute, but it had to be 5 days a week. I did really well and never missed a day until September 1, then I stopped. I got too busy before a long vacation and really couldn't find time, and once I got back from vacation I started looking for a new job so I couldn't focus on me.

I'm making this my New Years resolution again and this time I'll stick with it!

I was just thinking last night about this thread and how we needed to revive it. The stress of the last few months has taken it's toll on my waistline. I have got to get back in control. I'm not sure what my first step will be. Maybe exercise, maybe better eating. But something's got to change.

Welcome back pirate:s!

Here is my plan...I'm going to do at least one thing every month to be healthier (and 10 lbs. will just magically disappear, right??). You have to do whatever works for you, but I find that changing one or two things at a time is more effective than trying to change everything at once. I'm going to post my monthly goals here & I'm asking you to hold me to them.

SOOOOO...For January I'm going to do these 2 things:

1. Exercise at least 800 minutes this month (WISH has a monthly exercise challenge thread, you pick your goal and report your progress)

2. I'm only going to have a beer or glass of wine on the days I exercise. I usually eat pretty well and I don't really snack, so really all my empty calories come from alcohol. I'm a big fan of having a glass of wine after the kids go to bed. I don't drink a lot - just often! (yell at me about this one in chat!)

Anyone else want to share?

I'm tired of lean cuisines and need some ideas.

More often than not, I end up with a Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine because I am lazy!

When I am motivated...I like to saute some veggies on Sunday night & put several portions in small containers. Then I pack the veggies with a low-fat tortilla, and some carrots & fat free ranch and maybe some fruit for lunch.

I like eggplant, red & green peppers, red onions sauteed together. I can add garlic, oregano, and fat free caesar dressing for Italian, or a few tablespoons of enchilada sauce for Mexican, or teryaki sauce for Chinese - heat up at work, roll in a tortilla (with lettuce if I have it) & that's lunch.

I also always have a can of low-cal, low fat soup in my desk (so I have something healthy to eat if I forget my lunch) & both sweet and salty 100 calorie packs to stop me from running downstairs for junk food.

For a little extra motivation I signed up for the National Body Challenge from Discovery Health.

http://health.discovery.com

You get a free 8 week pass for Bally's Fitness, customized meal plans, customized fitness plans and tons of articles, quizes, advice etc. Not sure how much I'll use this, but since it's free, I thought I'd give it a try.

I actually think I'll go back to eDiets. http://www.ediets.com
I had great sucess with them and still have a membership, I just haven't logged on in months. I like the meal plans here better. The recipes for each day are just for one portion so you eat everything you make. This is a lot easier for me rather than trying to portion out larger recipes.

For today, I'm just trying to make better choices. I may take some time to plan out this week's meals and do some shopping. The exercise will come later.
