Cape May.......Help!

We did breakfast and dinner there in May. Service was so-so at dinner, bad at breakfast. Both times the seating area looked less than clean to us. Breakfast food was good but I really didn't like the food at dinner (save for those yummy oreo bonbons).

We had dinner there on our last trip. Won't go again. The food was so-so, and they were not keeping up with restocking food. There were many empty things on the buffet. Not worth another trip there.

I absolutely love Cape May. Is it the best seafood in the world? Nope. But, we've been visiting Cape May for years. Love the selection, the feel...it's just always been a fav.

We got back last Friday, the 12th, after 10 days in the World and ate at Cape May for dinner - which was not one of our "original" reservations, but all those went out the window when we realized we weren't eating as early as we thought for dinner.

Let's just say that my DS4 and DD8 ate more there for dinner than any other place the whole trip! My DS actually ate mussels and LOVED them - it was like pulling teeth to get him to eat much else the entire trip. DD also ate those and tried the clams as well (neither of which, by the way, were fried - they were in the shell).

The reason the kids enjoyed it, I believe, is because it wasn't the standard "kids meal" fare - they could whatever they liked off the buffet. We ended up having roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans with squash, salads, peel n eat shrimp, buttered rolls, cornbread, etc., etc.

Desserts - our host made a point of showing us the 3 'special' desserts at the front of the room (behind the hostess stand) that are NOT on the general buffet. Of course, we had to have the oreo bon bons!!! :goodvibes

All in all, it was an excellent meal. Our server, Linda, was FANTASTIC and attended us quite nicely. We would have liked to have gone back - we just ran out of time!!!

Go, enjoy, and make the decision for yourself as to whether you enjoy it or not!!!

Just about the same experience exactly down to the server. We were there on the 12th for dinner. My daughter actually ate dinner. She did not like any of the "regular childs menu" so the buffet was great. Most everything I liked.Didn't think the stew was so great but plenty to keep you happy. Also loved the Oreo dessert, and this comes from someone who as a rule doesn't eat Oreo's.

Best thing(from my daughter)is that you can draw on the table.:lmao:

I knew I could count on my fellow DISers to help me out. I am looking forward to trying it again. I will be there this Friday night. I will let everyone know how we liked or disliked it. Wish us luck...............:thumbsup2

I don't remember any fried seafood on the menu but I dont like fried seafood anyway so that's OK with me. The chowder is ok, nothing to write home about. I really like the clams even if they are small because they are all you can eat:)

We have ADR's at Cape May on Sept. 26th. We haven't eaten here in about 2 yrs. I was wondering how the food, service, etc. is now. We really loved it when we went 2yrs. ago, but you know time changes all things. Any recent trips to Cape May? I am patiently waiting for any help here.....:surfweb:

Just posted my review of Cape May Cafe on 9/5/2008, here's the link, it on page 5 (towards the end of review, it was our last Free Dining meal.) We enjoyed it (we hadn't been there in at least 10 years.) Review includes pictures, including those oreo bon-bons

Since we're staying at the BC this trip, we're trying it out for breakfast *and* dinner. I'm excited to be giving this restaurant a try for both of those meals. :wizard:

Hi - quick question. Did they still have lobsters in a tank there? We haven't been in years, but they used to have lobsters that they would cook for you if requested. They just didn't advertise it on the menu.

I am not always the most observent and also am not much of a lobster eater but I did not see a tank w/lobster.

I am at the BCv now  and we had dinner at Cape may tonight. Walked up at 7ish and was seated within minutes. No ADR

Dinner was great, the salmon was extra yummy! Everything was fresh, everything was replaced quickly and had no complaints. There was a vegetarian pasta dish that was so good.

Hubby really liked the ribs and salmon best

We did breakfast there twice on our trip a few months ago. It was one of our favourite character meals (along with Ohana's). The food was fantastic, our servers both times were very friendly and the character interaction was great. Minnie sat down at the table the first time and played 0's and X's on the tablecloth with our son, it was so cute. :goodvibes
