First, I want to think everyone for all the support tat you guys have given me and to each other. I enjoy all the great information and kindness on this WISH board.

I have been drinking Caffiene-Free-Diet-Coke at home and I've been drinking black coffee at work for the caffeine effect working 12-hour nights on the weekends.

I've been reading that I am not supposed to drink carbonated drinks or caffiene.

Will this hurt my induction diet on Atkin's?

Do you drink coffee at work?

Do you drink diet coke?

Comments welcomed.

Thank you in advance, RaySharpton :)

Well... technically you are not suppose to drink Diet Coke. If you are drinking a diet soda, it should be clear, caffeine free & contain no aspartame. With that said, I drink Diet Sprinte which is clear & caffeine free but does contain aspartame (I'm not driving all around God's green earth trying to find something that may/may not exist ;) ). I also drink 2 cups of tea a day (not decaf). It all depends on what your body can handle. DH drinks Diet Coke on Atkins and is just fine.

Hi Ray, I have been drinking caffinated coffee for quite awhile now. I doesn't seem to make me have any cravings (I think that;s why its not reccomended). I also will occasionally indulge in a diet Vanilla Coke, which I don't normally have because it contains aspertame which is supposedly a cause of stalling...which I have HUGE problems with...but others here will tell you that they drink it without a problem, it depends on the person. I usually drink water, flavored seltzer, or a line of sodas (Waist Watchers, only available in the North East) sweetened with Splenda and contains no caffine or sodium. I think there is a cola out there called Diet Rite that is also sweetened with Splenda and containing no caffine.
Like I said, many things depend on the person, some people can have the caffine and aspertame and others find they can't.
Hope this helps.

Hi Ray,

Really, the only reason it's not recommended is due to the cravings it's suppose to cause. I drink Diet Coke and about 5 cups of coffee a day. Alex lost over 100 pounds and drank 6 cans of diet coke a day. :)

Ray,

I have lost quite a bit, and I have not avoided caffeine at all.

I probably actually drink MORE now than before startinf Atkins!

:)

........and it hasn't effected my weight loss either(29 lbs!!!!).
I tried in the beginning to quit, but got wicked bad headaches from the withdrawal. I say if it doesn't make you stall, drink on!!!

I like Diet Rite the best because it's sweetened with Splenda instead of Aspartame. Aspartame tends to stall some people. And, Diet Rite comes in different flavors too! :)

Thank you so much for the answers everyone.

I could probably try not drinking black, caffeinated coffee at work. I really don't like coffee, but I drink it thinking that it will keep me alert at night. Maybe this Atkin's Diet will solve that problem.

I drink Caffeine-Free-Diet-Coke at home just as a treat and it is satisfying to me.

I thought that I remembered Alex drinking Diet Coke on the Atkin's Diet.

So, what I've learned is:

1. Caffeine may cause food cravings in some people.

2. Aspartane in Diet Coke may cause a stalling in weight loss in some people.

If I don't loose much weight in my first week on Saturday, I may have to reconsider Aspartine.

Today is the start of of my fifth day on Atkin's Diet and I feel much better.

Thank you everyone here on the WISH board for all your support and kindness.

Sincerely, Ray :)

Ray, it does affect some people, and slows down their matabolism, thankfully I am not one. I was a huge Diet Coke addict, now I have two a day, sometimes...I think it does help you not retain water if you cut down, but it does not affect me either way.

Keep it going Ray!!! You can do it!!!

Ray, I drink caffeinated coffee every day, a whole pot, all by myself :) I drink my water too, though.

My husband drinks diet Dr. Pepper with caffeine everyday, at least 8 of them, sometimes more.

Alex said that he never gave up his diet coke and he lost 110 pounds.

The Atkins book only says that caffeinated beverages may cause your blood sugar to spike, resulting in food cravings in some people.

Neither of us have had cravings because of the caffeine we drink. We don't seem to be sensitive to caffeine, perhaps that is why.

I say that if you like diet coke and it helps you stay on plan, then drink it. If you are sensitive to Aspartame then switch to Diet Rite cola, if you can tolerate the taste, some people love it. It is sweetened with Splenda.

I can't wait for your first check-in Ray. It will be interesting to see if Aspartame affected you at all :)

I'm so glad you are here on WISH with us Ray :) I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better, was yesterday your worst day?

Katholyn
