I'm trying to book Yak and Yeti for 9 people but the system will not allow. There are multiple times available but only for a table of 8 or under. Has anyone had success just booking for 8 and telling the at check in that there will be 1 more (a child)?? We really would like to try this place.

I am not sure this will work. A few trips ago my mom and cousin had a ressie for 2 at CP. I decided to join them for a night and went with them to the CP. No dice! They only had a table for 2. I could not be seated with them. I would have a plan B in place, just in case.

Sorry that usually ends up with the extra person being turned away.

Try searching for 1 extra...10, see if that comes up.

Or you could even split your party and search 4 and 5 groups. If that works when you get there you can ask the host to sit you close together. It may take a bit but it is better than the alternative.

To be honest adding people when you get there rarely happens, especially if you are going when FD is in affect.
If the place is booked and full they have to turn that extra person away because of fire codes.

Sorry.

as far as I know, you have to call Disney Dining to get a table for 9 - the system does not accept any number higher than 8 for that reason. Your other option is to split your group if you don't want to call. And you may have to do that anyway since there are few tables set aside for that large of a group...

I really would not try to just show up with 9...depending on the table set-up there, it could very well be that there is no way to pull up an extra chair (thinking about some of the places we've seen round tables where they crammed 8 people...they didn't really fit and there's no way they could have squeezed another chair around that table.) You do take the chance they'll flat-out tell you no, they can't seat 9. Or tell you there will be a 1-2 hour wait.

YIKES!:scared: Just checked all of my ressies and I did te same thing for our CP breakfast! I can kick myself. I should have asked you disboard experts earlier when I still had choices.

You can call in for the reservation of 9, someone will help you. A few years back I had this happen at the Yak and Yeti also, they would not let me make a reservation for over 8, they had to transfer me to groups to make the ressie.

I wouldn't do this. If the restaurant is full they will not let the 9th person in. Won't matter if the 9th person is a child or not, if the restaurant is at capacity they will not let another person in due to fire codes.

If you can get a table for 10, it would probably work - it is much easier to come in with fewer people than with more.

the system does not accept any number higher than 8 for that reason.

The online system accepts party sizes up to 10. More than 10 and the guest is required to call group dining. With Disney, the kickoff number for group dining used to be more than 8, now it is more than 10.

Yak & Yeti is not a Disney restaurant. Their policies may be different - they may consider a group to be a smaller number than Disney does. I would call the WDW line and ask if they can find you a party of 9 or 10. If there is anything different you must do for Y&Y they may be able to let you know. Sometimes groups are required to call the restaurant directly.

Thanks so much for your advice. So gld I didn't just show up as planned. We would have been devastated, not to mention hungry!

If there are numerous ressie's available, then I would consider booking a table for 5 and a table for 4. You can then ask to be seated together when you check in. Worst case scenario would be that you may have to split up your party, rather than getting turned away by showing up with an extra person.
