I'm a worry wart who is trying to keep everyone healthy before our trip. Actually im neorutic about it....A notice came home today from my son's school saying chicken pox is going around what the heck..My kids are have the vaccination, can you still get the pox????

Yes you can still get the pox, but it is usually a very mild case. However, my neighbor's daughter just got it and had over 175, and this was with the vaccine.

Yes she can still get it. But that doesn't mean she will. It's 'wait and see', unfortunately.

It takes between 9-21 days for incubation, with a 14 day average break-out. When is your trip?

My daughter was 2.5 when she was somehow exposed to the chicken pox (and had the vaccine). She came down with a very mild case of shingles . We were on vacation in the backwoods of Canada at the time and went to a clinic because I thought it was poison ivy, but they said there wasn't really anything to be done. My other 3 children were fine, never developed a single symptom.

I wouldn't worry too much over something that could very well come to nothing.

My kids both had the vaccine and they both got it within 2 weeks of each other. Very mild cases for both of them. My son then got it again the following year, didn't know that could happen, but it did .. Again very mild case. I wouldn't worry about it.

My DS was vaccinated at 15 mos. and came down with chicken pox when he was 8. At first he just had a few spots that looked like mosquito bites, but by the end of the day he had about 80. The pediatrician said kids who have not been vaccinated have 400-500 pox!

In an elementary with nearly 900 kids the school nurse said DS was the ONLY child who got them!

I will say that was his first year in public school and he was CONSTANTLY sick. His private school was very small so I guess he just didn't have much resistance! Maybe having his immune system weakened made him more susceptible to the pox virus.
