Canon SD 780 IS Users - HELP!

I just purchased this camera for our WDW holiday in February. I read every review I could on this camera before purchase. I can't seem to get good pictures from this camera, even in AUTO mode. When I use a program preset (like Portrait) the pics come out EXTREMLY dark - even when the subject is 3 ft or so away. Is there any other 780 users who have a similar experience? Or, even better - are you getting good quality pands pics? I've used Canons before, but never had this kind of trouble. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

If you are taking pictures indoors, is the flash firing?

Try taking pictures outdoors during the day and see if the pictures come out better.
