Canon S2

Canon does not normally have any issue with colour. That is why I chose Canon. I would want my card back to look at them on a computer. If they look good on the computer then the tech is out to lunch. Is he charging extra for this "favor" his is doing for you? Curious, as I am looking for a S2Si, it looks like a great camera.

I was so happy to get this camera. All the pictures on the display looked great, even the optical zoomed in ones. I never activated digital zoom because I wasn't planning on blowing anything up. If what he says is true, can it be corrected through his software? I'm just sick. :guilty: I drove my poor family nuts with all the photo taking. Maybe this is just too much camera for me. It just annoys me because if this were my fault, why have I gotten the run around for a week. What photo developing place runs out of paper? Why did he say several times they were almost done only to say today they were red??? I don't think he is charging me, he kept saying he was doing me a favor by correcting the problem on his own.

I agree with others.. I would definitely get my cards back and see what you see on the computer.

I have the S2 and have never had any color issues with my camera on auto, zooming - optical or digital.

The resolution that you mentioned is for movies- 640x480 pixels 30 fps is for high quality movie. -

Below that setting on there is a letter - L, M1, M2, S, I always shoot on L and then if you push the set button again you have the choice of Superfine, Fine and Normal - I also use Superfine. I just got a 2G card and on that setting I can get 774 pics.

This link has good pics and info about the menus without having to read the paper manual....

go get your cards and your 'reddish' photos and take them elsewhere. BUT first, load the photos onto your computer. I'd also back them up onto a disk.

this guy is having some sort of problem, out of paper, reddish tint, doesn't matter what the issue is, I'd just get my stuff out of there.

Tonya, it is not your fault so stop doubting yourself. Obviously this guy has no idea what he is talking about. Resolution has nothing to do with color and you CAN'T change the white balance settiing in "Auto" mode. Perhaps he is having a problem with his developing machine and is trying to put you in the defensive so you don't get mad at him for not having them ready. You are either dealing with a dope or a liar and if I were you I'd make this the last time he got any of your business.

Thank you, everyone. I'm going to call him first thing tomorrow because I don't want him to delete my memory cards. He was going to put everything on disk for me and delete the 1g card because it was full. He said everyone like to get all their pictures backed up on a disk and then delete the cards, so I can reuse them.

Thanks! Right now there is no card in my camera and when I turn it on and hit function, this is what it shows. 640x480 30fps. Then when you hit the down arrow it says I am set on L fine. I had a basic 1g SD card not Ultra. Is L the correct setting for me? Should I be on superfine? I am only interested in 4x6's for now. I can say that the white balance was always on automatically. Wouldn't the color problem be noticed on the display, Wouldn't I have seen it at some point?? The camera is new and this is the first time I've had any pictures actually developed from it. Thanks again.

Like people have posted the RESOLUTION has nothing to do with color balance.

The resolution you have it set on is fine for 4x prints.

I'd bump it to superfine, which is what I have my S2IS set at, but what you have now is adequite.

You can't change anything in auto or really any of the SCN modes so that isn't the issue here.

And yes you would have likely noticed something off on the display.

In the future.

NEVER drop off your media cards, always upload or burn a CD/DVD and drop that off.

Reddish pictures that he is willing to give you today, sounds like their machine is malfunctioning and only prints reddish images. Maybe the machine is expecting a repair man any day now, and that explains the additional delays.

If he was being 100% honest he could have provided some of the images he has "corrected", not like he will finish all 600 at once. He should be able to provide some samples by now, IF he was being honest.

Delete is super easy on the camera. Do it yourself for safety. I do not delete my card until moments before I need it again. It only takes 30 seconds. That way it serves as a temporary backup. The shop should download your photos and give you the card back within moments or at the worst a few hours or the next day. Then they can work with the file copies. Never work on the originals especialy when they are the work of a client. What if you had to take pictures the next day?

also I always review every photo before sending out for printing. Why print the blurry ones? heehheheee

I'm glad you're calling him. Your photos are most likely just fine, and it's an issue with him. He should not be deleting customers' cards, though. That's a bit of a red flag, telling me that this guy isn't 100% competent. That's like burning film negatives and just giving you copies. Maybe I'm wrong--I'm no photo genius. It's definitely odd. I think you should have the originals on the card to do with as you please as well as be given a disk for backup. JR6ooo4's advice is very good; print only your good photos. I actually haven't even printed a single one of my digital pics yet. I will eventually, though, but I don't plan on dropping off my card and just leaving it.

By the way, even in the very very very unlikely event your pics are indeed reddish, they're definitely still fixable and you can have your camera repaired/replaced. The only REALLY bad scenario is when your pics all come out black because you forgot to take off the lens cap! Then there's no hope. ;)

He said what he said so you don't take the memory card and give the business to someone else. As a photo place running out of paper? Hey, my friend own a photo store and photo finishing places. Sometimes the paper ran out or the chemical ran out, or the machine breaks down.

Funny that this thread emerged today. My friend haven't been able to print a single digital file for the past 3 days because Fuji can't provide her with a replacement IC for her printing machine. Quite fortunately for her customers, she's upfront about it. Unfortunately for her, for the past 3 days she had lost about 5,000 print jobs. That's about $900 in profit just went poof. :guilty:

Is this going to be a very difficult task (for a simpleton photographer) or what?
I pressed the "flower" button and now what? Do I need to focus manually?
what all is involved? The instruction book has such minimal steps....
I will be purchasing (checking the cost at least) of the "A short course in Canon Photography" suggested by Dan.....
Just wondering before I get it, if there are quick steps I can learn NOW.
:teacher:

Thx

We print land survey plats on a 48" HP plotter. When a print head expires there is no warning and machine stops. We can not even print black only, if a color print head fails. They are expensive and will even expire on the shelf so we do not keep them in stock. And... not stocked localy, like at office depot. They must be special ordered. Nice.

Update sort of...I went over to the photo place today . I asked if I could get my memory cards because I wanted to put them on my computer to see what they looked like. He said he needed the cards to process the pictures, that he couldn't do it without them. He said he feels offended that it seems that I think he is lying to me and that he is working 'so' hard to fix my pictures. He says that (as luck would have it) my pictures are 'almost done' and he can probably get them to me tomorrow and they will be 'beautiful'. I told him that I had always been happy with the work he has done previously and that's why I came to him, but that surely he can understand how nervous I am after almost a week and a half of, what I feel, is the run around. I told him that the resolution would not affect the color and that the white balance is set automatically in AUTO mode. He said I must always manually set resolution in ANY mode and that when I see how 'beautiful' my pictures turn out, he would be happy to show me how to set my camera 'properly'. I told him I will give him the chance to finish my pictures but that I do not want him to erase ANYTHING from my cards. I told him these pictures are very important to me and that I saw NOTHING on my display screen that would indicate any error in color. I told him that we will take the camera and the cards to a camera shop to make sure there is no internal problem with the camera and then like a coward I slinked out of the store. :guilty: I am keeping my fingers crossed and will learn from this experience. Thank you for all the support. :)

Was he able to show you at least ONE PRINT?

I mean not all 1200(600x2) prints will come out of the machine at once, if he was really concerned he could have delivered the prints that were already done.

Again I just feel that his machine is down and he is stalling. I would also guess that when he gives back your memory card, the images will be the ones he "fixxed."

How much does he charge per print/doubles?

I don't like that he wanted to return your card with the pics already deleted; I wouldn't want a shop to take that upon themselves w/ my cards.

I agree with my fellow Dis'ers - if he's "almost done", well, "ooh, good thanks, can I see one" (i.e., he shouldn't take offense to that).

Don't be afraid to just ask for the card back; you can bring it back to him after you've had a chance to look at the card, and when he is better prepared to handle your print job.

Good Luck!!! :thumbsup2

Oh, now I definitely, positively, absolutely think he's giving you the runaround. He's right that you manually set resolution in whatever mode you're in, but he's so wrong about that causing your color issues--of which I'm betting you have zero.

Go back, get your card, get a "sample pic" if he has any (HA!) and take your business elsewhere.

When I asked to see the reddish photos, he said that my photos were being developed at his 'other' location, but that I'm going to be 'so happy' when I see the photos. He is charging me 17 cents a picture for 640 prints, so about 1280 photos and a disk. I believe the orignal price was around $180.00 total.

Where is the other location? Can you head over and see the work that has been done to this point, or pick up your card. I mean, the pics have to be uploaded to their computer and then "processed" for printing, right. So by now they have no need of your cards and should be able to give them back to you, even if you have to make the trip over to the "other" store.
