Canon S2

I'm glad you got your cards back :thumbsup2 and your pics - if not quite what you were hoping for.

That AmEx statement is disturbing - he must be in some dire straights if he's quibbling about that! (and AmEx would be interested in hearing that a merchant was dissuading use of their card)

Re: pics being brighter on the LCD screen.... I recently took some night shots (VERY DARK outside), and the images were at least recognizable on the LCD screen. When I upload to computer, they are pitch black, can't see the images at all. :confused3

check the date of the files on the cards. If he has changed the original files they should have a date newer than the vacation dates. With my canon the exif shows the date teh photo was taken but windows will display the date last modified. If all the dates are the original date then that may be good to know.

Anyone know if they could be edited and the same date kept?

Glad you got something back!

I am very curious to see one of the original files. To see the redish now not redish problem.

I'd also be interested in seeing the image differences. Your cards will have the original files. The disks would likely have his edits.

I'd upload your originals from the media cards to your computer, burn a disk of them and take them to another print shop (even CVS or Costco) and see if there is a difference in quality.

I think the AmEx thing is because he knows if you call them and complain he'll probablly have to eat the charge.

You only need to print one or two to see if there is a color difference at another printer.

I am begining to wonder if it was a color space issue and the guy did not know how to handle it.

The dates are the dates from my vacation so the memory cards look good.
It's only a slight color difference on the pictures but they still look good. I'm just happy to have everything.

I'll do that. I'm thinking he had some sort of issue with his equipment and instead of telling me, he made up the resolution issue. I will never be convinced that he corrrected each and every picture as a "favor". Like I said, when I put my memory card in all the pictures in display show L- fine (not superfine, but as eveyone here said, good enough for 4x6's.) Thank you, again!

I'd go to another camera place (even if its a Ritz or another larger chain store) and have 10-20 printed. Then you can compare better. You might see some difference on your home printer, but its not as good a printer the photo shops have. Look through the pics and any you see that might be different (like the ones you've already mentioned) and have them printed.

Glad you got everything back and in once piece.

pull out your owners manual and see what it says about maximum sized cards to use on your camera,,

The manual doesn't say anything about it.

Logically (not necessarily applicable to this camera), any SD card capacity should work because unlike Smart Media, the driver for each card is imbedded within the card itself, that's why cameras such as 300D can even 'pick up' 8 Gb CF cards.

I think you're right. I'm sorry you had such problems with this guy, but I'm glad you got everything back! :teeth:

I probably would have needed a tripod or rest the camera on something, huh for this one:

Okay, thx for letting me share and any tips will be appreciated.
I have been going over and over my instruction book.
I am so afraid to get into Disneyland and just not remember anything!

We got an S2 for my wife. We call it the Rebel JR! It does have some honkin' zoom.

Nice shot on the girl in the window...

MIkeeee

Help me, I went to the Canon website and I don't see any camera called S2. Which camera is this? Or is this a lens?

Wait, don't answer that....I went back and found it ...power shot...I was looking under slr's.

With the zoom that comes with the S2-IS - the tele conversion something that I might still want? Is "telephoto" different than "zoom"... The description below does not mean anything to me at this time... I need to do more reading, but I also want to finally get these things ordered!

I am definitely ordering the wide angle conversion lens. I have seen a close up lens as well, but I am not sure if it is compatible with the S2. It appears in the "accesories" on www.adorama.com, but the decription does not mention the S2. I will have to research that one further.

Thanks in advance

Here is the description -

Tele conversion - Converts the focal length of the body lens by a factor of approximately 1.5 (35 mm film equivalent at maximum telephoto: approximately 648 mm) when attached.

Wide Angle Conversion Lens - 0.75x Wide Converter. Requires Conversion Lens Adapter Hood Set #LAH-DC20. Converts the focal length of the body lens by a factor of approximately 0.75 (35mm film equivalent at maximum wide angle: approximately 27 mm) when attached.

Canon 58 Close-up Lens 500D (for Lenses 70mm to 300mm) Double Element - Double-element accessory attaches to front of lens; changes closest focusing distance from infinity to 500mm(approx. 19.7") from front of lens.
For EF lenses and PowerShot Pro90 IS.

I'm by no means an expert, so I'll just give you my experience.

I have a Kodak and bought a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens.

The telephoto allows me to get even closer than the 10x zoom I already have. You can get a fisheye effect if you don't zoom out with your camera while using the lens (did that make any sense)?

I like having both (especially the wide angle).

I had used both type lens addapters on my old Canon S20 and found them to be very useful. The wide angle attachment will create a fish eye effect, which can create some dramatic photos.

Obviously, I can't tell you what you want, but "telephoto" and "zoom" aren't the same things. My camera, an A620, does have a "zoom" lens. But it's not "telephoto zoom" or "telephoto". "Zoom" lenses simply have different focal lengths, while "telephoto" lenses have only one long focal length. "Telephoto zoom" is different focal lengths, all of them long.

I'm not sure at which point "regular" focal lengths become "telephoto", if it's 50mm or 100mm or what.
