Canon Rebel XT ?

Take a look in your menu find the one that says peramiters You can change the saturation and sharpness there. Page 63 and 64 of your manual.

What I was told the reason for your difference between your old p&s and your canon is that the XT shoots more realistic colors via default, while the p&s bumps up the colors by default.

Having said that, I do what Kevin has suggested and bump saturation to where I want it in lightroom.

I prefer to do my editing in a dark-er room. Hehehehehee
But seriously, I get too much glare on my screen when the sun is coming through the windows.

You could shoot and save a raw file and a large JPEG with the boosted colors and get the best of both worlds.

Thanks; I'll try both - eventually :rolleyes1

I suspected that the Kodak was a little more colorful, a little less true-to-life; but it looked good!

Really, though, to answer Kevin's question, it's more a matter of time - or lack thereof. I dabble with post processing when I have a chance, but really lack the time and experience. Another thing to work later when I retire or when the kids are grown and gone!;)

and buy cleaning I mean like almost putting it in the dishwasher.

DW spilled some beer on it :scared1: (and I rarely use smileys). We wiped it down immediately, it seemed fine at the time and still works. But now some rear butons are sticking and the flash sticks so much that I have to pull it up manualy while I press the flash button or I get an error message.

SO what am I looking at, a few hundred? Maybe more?
should I send it to canon or can anyone reccomend a better shop for that type service.

thanks,

Mikeeee

Oh and it was not realy her fault. We were at a fair and there was a hole in the table which was covered by the tablecloth. She put the drink down and it tipped and splashed.

depends if they clean it like dvc jens and you end up needing to get a new 40d;) i think a sensor clean ing is around a hundred but it sounds like you might need some more than that

ps like your oblio sig...great minds agree evidiently;)

Hehehehe,
Yours says participatED, past tense. But your sightings are at 0.
I am confused...

I would guess that a cleaning like that would be quite expensive.

I would say, go to beachcamera.com and buy a new one for $380.

http://www.beachcamera.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CNDRXTB

That way, you have a fully functional one and one that your DW can spill beer on whenever she wants. Either that or keep it away from her and use it as a backup if needed.

$380 huh? At that price I could get one then attempt the cleaning on the old one myself. Heck, I have old toothbrushes and lots of dish soap! That is what they use, right? Hehehehehee

Mikeeee

Plus then I could be one of those cool camera dudes that has multiple bodies!

I dropped my XT last summer on a stone floor (on my last day in Venice.....) and had to send it off to Canon for repair. I sent it through a super camera shop in Falls Church, Va. They couldn't guarantee in advance what it would cost to fix, but the owner told me that he had found that it cost $215 almost every time they sent cameras off to Canon to fix. Sure enough, mine cost $215 to fix. Allie

Be careful though, eventually you might look like Mark at WDW with all kinds of ewupiment hanging from you! :lmao:

But really, that is a great price and I would guess that you would have to pay alot to get that level of clean on your old XT.

Of course, an XTi is only $500 or so and when the XSi comes out, it will be even cheaper.

These were taken at the Foremost Butterfly display, with the exception of the squirrel.

They're better than my P&S, but make me realize how much work I have to do to learn this thing. :rolleyes1

Great shots on your 1st outing :thumbsup2 .

I especially like that last one - very cool!

Congrats on getting a canon, the pictures look great, what lens did you use?

Thanks! I used a 75-300mm lens while in the butterfly display, but I also used the kit lens on our outing but haven't posted any of those yet. They were all shot on auto. I figured I would get used to using the darn thing, before I start messing around with different settings.

Very nice- I love the last two. Congrats on your new camera.

Congratulations on your new camera! :goodvibes

I really like the last one! Have lots of fun!:cool1:

Thanks for posting!

I dropped my point & shoot on our last trip to Disney, so need to replace it within the next 2 weeks before our upcoming vacation.

I want to stay in the $500 or less range (have a $160 rebate at Costco and am willing to add about $300 to it). Costco.com has:

Canon Rebel XT 8mp
or
Nikon D40 6.1mp

both in that price range. Or am open to input on other cameras you think would fit the bill.

Any advice on which is best? I'm a novice and don't want it to be too tricky, but am willing to play around a little bit. I want a faster shutter speed than my p&s, to capture kids action shots as well as better nighttime photos. Will be using it for shots of people as well as scenery.

Thanks so much for any input!

Since this topic has been beaten to death..LOL ( try Search), I'll give you my short version.

1) I shoot Canon, so take my advice for what it is....Canon slanted.

2) Nikon crippled their D40 series by leaving out the autofocuse screw motor. Thereby forcing you to buy only AF-S Nikkor lenses. For most folks, that's not a big deal. But for many others, it IS a big deal if they want to use the older lenses, many nice Prime lenses, and are upgrading. Many D40 owners end up selling it within a year or two and getting a D80, D200, D300. Just as many don't care and keep their D40.

3) Canon uses EF-S lenses as well as their entier 200 plus EF lineup. Yes, most folks will never touch even a quarter of those lenses, but the choice is there.

4) Both Nikon and Canon have huge online communities so you can learn tons about your camera as well as buy lots of good used lenses and equipment. You can't go wrong with either.

5) Most important, pick both up and see which one feels better. I didn't like the feel of the XT. Only you can tell which one is good. It's probably the most critical part of picking a camera...which one feels good in your hands.

6) Low light quality, the Canon is arguably better, but only if you pixel peep.

Did I say search? There are tons of threads on buying a new DSLR so be sure to read them. Good luck with your search.
