There have been many threads like it if you go back and search through the pages of the Board. It behooves you to do some basic research into what they offer (or lack) so that you can make an informed decision. What I or someone else likes may not be the right choice for you.Not looking for added lenses or anything.
BTW, leaving for Disney in a WEEK!!

Canon has a better handle on noise reduction at higher ISO's than the Nikon's do (anything over ISO 400 and you start getting some significant noise, which is irritating!). The thing that causes these differences is the sensor that each brand has as proprietary information. The XT will produce creamier skin tones, but more muted coloring, while the D40 will produce a more vivid coloring. It's just a slight difference that 99.9% of people will never notice!![]()
Maybe at default jpeg settings, but both cameras can be tweaked to the photographers taste in jpeg output.
And when you shoot RAW, the photographer can pretty much control that issue.

Totally appreciate what you have to say. There is a lot you can control in RAW post processing and in the menus, if you know what you are doing. However, this particular poster doesn't sound like the type to either 1) want to do a lot of pp'ing and 2) know how to do the pp'ing part. SOOC shots, when comparing the differences in coloring and skin tones between the two sensors, is what causes these differences. Personally, I hate messing with the menus and doing much in terms of pp'ing of my personal work. So I want my personal shots to look as perfect as possible right out of the camera.
While I enjoy reading what Ken Rockwell has to say about these things, I don't take his writings as gospel. He did do an excellent comparison between the different brands (Nikon D3 & Canon 5D), ISO performance and color, that is an interesting read.
ETA: Sorry, I don't have a high-enough post count to do a direct link. I'd be happy to PM you with the link if you'd like.![]()
Take Ken's advice with a grain of salt as well...but he does give out some great tips and I've found his reviews on lenses and cameras to be spot on most of the time. You mean this link?

I ended up not getting either one and went with a Canon Powershot S5 IS. I think I am going to be really happy with it after reading about it on here. Thanks everyone!
