I just called Disney because I just realized that when I booked my package yesterday, I forgot to tell them we wanted a NON SMOKING room. The CM I spoke to just now was very friendly, and noted it in my reservation, but said that the request could not be guaranteed! What the? I told her that it is a MUST because I have a child with Asthma.. we CANNOT stay in a Smoking room.

Anyone ever request a non smoking room and not received it?

No but I have received several NS rooms that had been smoked in.

:wizard: We also have a child with asthma and require a non-smoking room. We have always told the cm this when booking and have always gotten it. On our ressie confirmation it always says"guaranteed Non-Smoking". They will do this when there is a medical reason. We are leaving for disney in a week and a half-staying at POR and again were guaranteed non smoking(I think they even have non-smoking and smoking-optional buildings there now if I remember correctly). Try another CM. I hear that sometimes gets you different results. Good Luck and have a magical time! :goodvibes

That was one of our complaints with CSR ~~ the NS rooms we had absolutely reeked of smoke ~ changed rooms & they too definitely had been smoked in. I realize that they can't control guests smoking in a room, but these rooms really needed to be cleaned far more thoroughly than they were.
This was the only Disney resort we have ever had a problem with getting a clean non-smoking room.

We requested a non-smoking room at POP last year and because I have extremely bad allergies, we didn't have a problem....when it comes to a medical reason, Disney will always see to it that you are taken care of. We have reservations for POR in May and our reservations state "guaranteed non-smoking room"

Just check with another CM and let them know you have a child with asthma and they will take care of it....

Our sons both have severe allergy issues. They don't exactly have asthma, but some allergens (most notably cig smoke) can give them an asthma-like attack. They take shots for their allergies and are constantly under a dr.'s care.

When I make reservations (at every hotel, not just WDW), I always ask for a non smoking room and let the reservation agent know the above information. I have never had a problem with smoke at WDW. I also get our doctor to write a letter to which I add our reservation info and fax to them.

In fact, last yr. at the YC once we were in our room, the front desk called saying they wanted to make sure we found our room acceptable and that the boys were comfortable. We let them know that everything was great and we thanked them for taking the time to check up on us.

Go to the disabiliites board and read the FAQ stickied at the top. There is a number to call for WDW special services. If there is TRULY a medical reason they will block off a non-smoking room for you.

Our 7 year old dd also has asthma. When I call for reservations I let them know and they have blocked a non-smoking room for us. I was told by the cm that they have to do that because it is considered a disability. I let them know I travel with a nebulizer and that if for any reason the room has been smoked in we would have to leave. It has happened at other hotels in the past.
Then 2 days before we go I call back just to confirm. Because it is for a child they have not minded. We have never had a problem. Hope everything works out for you!

I always get a guaranteed non smoking room for medical reasons. As long as you say "medicl reason" you will have no trouble getting that changed on your reservation.

We were thinking about CSR for our August 2006 trip. Now that I am reading about smoking issues there, I may reconsider. I have never had a problem with any room at a Disney resort as far as smoking goes.

Your agent was misinformed and you need to call back. While it is true that we (I worked CRO) could not guarantee requests, we could guarantee non-smoking IF THE GUEST told us it was for medical reasons (i.e. allergies, athma, etc). We were not allowed to prompt the guest, although I did do this if I had a guest I liked:

Gst: "I'm requesting non-smoking."
Me: "And this is due to some medical reason, rrriiiiggghhhtttt????"
Gst: "Uh, well, I just don't like the smoke."
Me: "And that's because of a MEDICAL REASON, rrriiiiigggghhhhtttt????"
Gst: (light bulb has come on) "Yes it is. Due to allergies."
Me: "Great! I'll note that so we can guarantee it for you."

If the guest is not the one to state up front the reason why (and I'm not saying the OP didn't), we could not guarantee it for them. We could only note it.

And yes, I have requested non-smoking and received a smoking room. But, since I started telling them I need it for allergies, I've never received a smoking room.

To the OP, if you call back and get another CM like the first one, ask for guest services. They should be able to guarantee it for you. :)

HMM..... I just called yesterday to make sure we get a NS room because my baby has respitory problems and will need to use her nebulizer. The CM told me that ALL of Disney is NS and it would be hard to find a SMOKING room. I may have to call back and re-check!

Yes! Definately call back.

Yes, it's happened to us, at ASMo. Smoke causes me to get migraines, so the idea of being in a smoking room? Not a good thing. But since we needed 2 rooms, they had no more non-smoking rooms available, even though it was noted that we needed non-smoking rooms. So they moved us over to AS Sports, which we were all disappointed about (we're not sports fans), but since it was only for one night, we didn't let it ruin anything for us.

I think a lot of it depends on the time of year & whether you placed the reservation far in advance. Ours was a last-minute reservation (made just a few days before the trip) due to us having to switch a planned camping trip since 3 in my family ended up on antibiotics & there was a lot of rain in the forecast!

Be aware, though, that Disney doesn't enforce non-smoking rooms. When we were at Pop in December, my family had two connecting rooms (one for my mom and brother, one for me and DH). Both were non-smoking, as were all the rooms in that building.

My mom and brother's room was absolutely OVERWHELMED with the smell of cigarette smoke for about 5 nights of the trip, and one night their room totally reeked of POT (that is so tacky at WDW!). While none of us are typically bothered by the smell of smoke in general, it was so bad a few nights that my mom couldn't sleep.

The night we smelled the pot, my brother called the front desk to complain. They said the room shares a ventilation system with 15 other rooms, so there is no way they'd be able to go from room to room and find the culprits. They did send housekeeping up with a bottle of Lysol, though. :confused3

We chose not to press the issue because we didn't want to pack up and move, but it was actually very irritating.

I recently returned from a stay at All Star Music. I have asthma triggered by smoke and the asthma in turn exacerbates my diabetes. (When I have an asthma attack, my blood sugar goes up.) The medical necessity of a non-smoking room was noted and guaranteed on the reservation & I was in fact given a non-smoking room in a non-smoking building. However, on day 3 of our trip, a person was placed in the adjoining room who was smoking. It took 4 days till they finally moved me after daily promises that something would be done to make this man stop smoking. One manager actually told me he had to respect this other person's rights (the right to smoke in a non-smoking building???). Meanwhile I just got sicker & sicker. My trip was already paid so I could not leave & go somewhere else. The more often I complained - the worse the smoke became so I'm sure the individual was being more belligerent on purpose. Not till my blood sugar reached 400 & I spoke to a CM who was also diabetic did they move me - on my last day! After saving for some time (I'm a widow) to take my son on this trip, it is heartbreaking that is was so absolutely horrible. We missed many things that we had looked forward to because I was too sick to go. Many pre-paid holiday events that we did attend were almost intolerable to me because of being ill. It was the worst esperience I have ever had at ANY hotel. So just because you are placed in a non-smoking room, don't think you're 'safe'. Don't expect Disney to care for your rights because they will not. I never would have believed something like this could happen IN DISNEY, but I guess I was just naive. I used to think I would never stay off-site again, but after this trip I will definitely think more than twice about EVER staying on Disney property. It's so sad really because Disney was our favorite place & this has really spoiled it for us.

I guess I didn't realize they would guarantee non-smoking rooms for medical conditions, even though I always request one "due to my husband's allergies and asthma." When booking our current reservations, I said that and the CM stated we would be guaranteed a non-smoke room because of medical reasons. That was nice to hear. I think some resorts may be easier to get non-smoking that haven't been smoked in???? Like POFQ has a bldg. designated for smoking rooms now and most of the bldgs are non?????

We stayed in a Comfort Suites in our area for New Years Eve. They have recently gone totally non smoking. I have no idea how they can enforce this, but they tell you if the maid reports that you smoked in your room, you will be charged an additional $50..yikes! Since the people in the room next to use were smoking, I think they may have a surprise.

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH! I just called back and spoke with a different CM and she looked up the reservation and said that indeed it DID say Non Smoking GUARANTEED. She also told me that for medical reasons only, they can guarantee non smoking. She also checked my other requests (which I know they cannot guarantee) and the original CM that booked this, missed my request of facing the pool! Good thing I called!

I have always gotten a gaurenteed non-smoking room due to severe allergies. I am not allergic to smoke, but it is one of my triggers and makes things much worse for me. I always tell Disney when I make the reservation, and it gets noted on the confirmation as guarenteed due to medical reasons. I just fear too many people who do not have a medical need will start doing this and making it tougher for thosew of us that must have the non-smoking rooms.
