Cannot guarantee a NON smoking room?

What's up with folks who smoke in non-smoking rooms? It seems as if there are plenty of smoking/transitional rooms available, so why is it necessary?

I tend to lump these folks in the same category with those who will speed up to prevent you from merging into traffic . . .

Concerned now....We have guaranteed non smoking rooms because DH, mom, and one bro have asthma. However, we are checking in proabably close to 6PM. Are we still "guaranteed" checking in that late? Should I add "late" check in to my ressie? Any advice? DH and mom will get sick if they are around ANY smoke for even a short period of time.

You will probably still get a 'non-smoking' room. However, a little word of advice... Don't let them assign you to an adjoining room (unless it is with each other, LOL). That's where our problem occurred. The person in the next room - which was adjoining - was smoking & it came in around the door. I put towels under the door, but that didn't stop it from coming in around the sides & top. Good luck & lots of pixie dust!

Allergies or asthma is supposed to guarantee non-smoking. I can't be around smoke much, and I think it is that way for many people who don't smoke.

I have never gotten a smoking room at Disney, and have never been guaranteed one ahead of time. I think Disney should charge guests extra if they smoke in the room (if it's non-smoking).

On the other hand, the smoking rooms are supposed to be guaranteed all the time. However, that hasn't always been the case (I have had a guest or two who were guaranteed smoking, but didn't get it).

The Westin hotels have just gone completely smoke free & they are charging $200 to anyone who smokes in the room!

That is the exact reason that I may cancel my room only reservation at POFQ in August and rebook at the Swan. :earsboy: :earsboy:

I was in WDW in July 2005, and stayed 4 nights at WL and got a 6th floor smoking room as requested.

In the end of my vacation i stayed 3 nights at BC Waterview, and got a non smoking room!!!.

I realy liked staying at BC, and overall very much enjoyed my time at WDW, but i was not happy about not getting my smoking room.

I only made 1 request regarding my hole stay at WDW, and that was smoking room at both resorts.

I felt kinda stupid standing there at the reception desk, and not getting what i had requested!. I mean, i payed over 300 dollars a night, and was not allowed to smoke because they did not reserve a smoking room for me, but gave it away to someone else!.

I just called Disney because I just realized that when I booked my package yesterday, I forgot to tell them we wanted a NON SMOKING room. The CM I spoke to just now was very friendly, and noted it in my reservation, but said that the request could not be guaranteed! What the? I told her that it is a MUST because I have a child with Asthma.. we CANNOT stay in a Smoking room.

Anyone ever request a non smoking room and not received it?

If you tell them that you have a medical request for a non-smoking room due to your sons asthma they will guarantee the room. My husband is a severe asthmatic so I always do a medical request and have never had an issue.

Just wondering, as I would guess several other posters are as well, did you smoke when you were in the non smoking room at the BC? :confused3

I always request a smoking room & nearly every time, have gotten a non-smoking room. The CM's routinely say that because there are no "smoking rooms" available, I'm welcome to smoke in the room that I am assigned.

So, please don't blame all of the smokers because Disney is telling us that it's ok.

For my upcoming AKL visit, I have a "guaranteed smoking room".....or so my ressie says. We'll see if I actually get one.

Anyone know of hotel on site that are non smoking in all rooms?

Most rooms are non-smoking at the resorts now, so getting a NS room is probably the norm even when you don't want one. As others have reported already though, Disney doesn't seem to care if people smoke in the NS rooms and, in fact, even encourages it sometimes. Good news for smokers, but for non-smokers, even if you get a NS room, it may not be entirely "clean". Until the state or local municipalities mandate clean air in hotels, I don't see Disney doing anything to "penalize" people who smoke in NS rooms. Until then, it's more or less a crap shoot if that NS room will actually be residue free.

OK, so it's clear that we can blame Disney for telling people they can smoke in non smoking rooms. But being a the considerate person that you are, I am sure that you will not smoke in a non smoking room and go outside to smoke because you understand that there are a lot of folks that can become ill if they are exposed to the remnants of cigarette smoke in an enclosed room, right?

HA, I agree! Are you people that lazy that you can't open the door and stand outside to smoke? Instead you have to make other people sick?

HMM..... I just called yesterday to make sure we get a NS room because my baby has respitory problems and will need to use her nebulizer. The CM told me that ALL of Disney is NS and it would be hard to find a SMOKING room. I may have to call back and re-check!

All of Disney is NOT nonsmoking, there are designated smoking areas in the parks and no smoking in public buildings. There are a FEW smoking rooms in the resorts. It is VERY hard to get a smoking room. I have only gotten a smoking room about a third of the time that I request one.

The largest problem is smokers smoking in non-smoking rooms. (which I don't, I go outside when I am given a nonsmoking room.)

You can pretty much be guaranteed that the manager that you spoke to was a smoker. I too cannot understand how a smoker has the "right" to make others ill. You do not HAVE to smoke unless you are totally addicted. But I'm going to stop here because this will only open up another "war" between smokers and non smokers.

As a smoker (yes, gross, I know) this comment DOES NOT offend me in any way and I do not see why it should offend anyone else!! :confused3 We request non-smoking at WDW and smoke on the balcony...as long as the people next us are not on their balcony. I cannot stand to be submerged in smoke and do not smoke in my house or car and refuse to subject anyone else to it. I wish all smokers had a little courtesy to realize that when they smoke inside or around others, they are hurting people that have made the (very intelligent) choice not to smoke!

See my above post. Get up and go outside!!!! It's NEVER okay no matter who says so. I will NOT make someone sick with my smoking because I am too lazy to get up and step outside. What a Cop-out!

Ms Tink, you really need to relax and mabye try to be a little less quick to jump to conclusions. I never once said whether I smoke in the non-smoking rooms or not....You (along with jakesmom & mitros) assume that I do.

My post was to simply state that CM's are telling smokers that they can smoke in the non-smoking rooms and that there are many smokers who will do just that.

I certainly wouldn't call those people lazy. Many smokers, especially those from other countries are a bit more relaxed about it and don't really understand that there are so many americans who are so incredibly offended by it. :crazy2:
