Cannot guarantee a NON smoking room?

When we were there last Sept and Jan, I tiold them of my allergies to perfumes and smoke and my ressie went to special services? That may not be the exact name but close and everytime I went to add something they had to go thru the special services they (the CR) could not do it alone because of teh designation. I have asthma and being around allot of second hand smoke triggers it and certain perfumes closes down my sinuses and even can make it feel like my throat is tight and they cleaned EVERYTHING as far a pillowcases, blankets, comforters and even washed out sheets seperatly in non-scented detergent.

They took care of us well, just let them know what your medical needs are.

Good luck

Dave

Thanks for the info. I just called and got a gaurantee. I'm amazed at how different CM's can give such conflicting info!

We stayed in a Comfort Suites in our area for New Years Eve. They have recently gone totally non smoking. I have no idea how they can enforce this, but they tell you if the maid reports that you smoked in your room, you will be charged an additional $50..yikes! Since the people in the room next to use were smoking, I think they may have a surprise.

The Westin hotels have just gone completely smoke free & they are charging $200 to anyone who smokes in the room!

Just so you know our requests were NS/Medical, we got a NS room but it had been smoked in. So even if they guarantee you a NS room they can't guarantee the previous guest did not smoke in it.

I think as they decrease the number of smoking rooms this situation will only get worse.

We had a "guaranteed non-smoking room" (direct booking CM quote) due to my severe asthma at WL in Oct. She said because I had a medical reason it could be guaranteed....when we checked in, the check-in clerk also verified the phase "guaranteed non-smoking room". I was extremely sceptical, but they came through!

I used to work at hotels (not disney) but in general just as an "FYI" the reservation is only a guarantee of a room not a specific type of room "King, doubles, smoking or non". So at really busy times of year the earlier in the day you checked in you were more likely to get that room request, if say you didn't arrive until 11pm you may not get it. :)

We ALWAYS request non smoking rooms for medical reasons and have ALWAYS got a non smoking room.

Mickey's Sister: You can pretty much be guaranteed that the manager that you spoke to was a smoker. I too cannot understand how a smoker has the "right" to make others ill. You do not HAVE to smoke unless you are totally addicted. But I'm going to stop here because this will only open up another "war" between smokers and non smokers.

I got a confirmed, guaranteed NS room for our trip next month as of tonight (I called to make sure). So, I'm thinking it might be up to whoever you talk to. :confused3

I acepted a smoking rm on a late check in at CSR with no complaint. Will never do again. It was bad . I use to smoke 14 years ago. :Pinkbounc

We requested a NS room at All Star Sports due to our sons asthma. The CM taking the reservation noted that it was for medical reasons & would be gauranteed. Very nice & no problems.

It almost sounds like 75% or more of you guys has "Allergies or Medical reasons" regarding smoke!.

It sounds to me like too many americans is sick, or am i wrong about that ?

I had my travel agent request a non-smoking room for medical reasons and the reservation confirmation noted that I had a "guaranteed" non-smoking room. I did indeed receive a non-smoking room when I checked into the Poly and AKL.

One of the great things about the Poly is that most of the longhouses are designated non-smoking.

I get nauseous and vomit when I am around tabacco smoke and being in a hotel room that allows smoking will ruin my vacation. Other people have asthma that is exacerbated by smoke. Second hand smoke is a public health danger and many places in the USA do not allow smoking in public areas. I'm proud to say that my city---Washington, DC---just voted to become smoke-free in bars and restaurants. Smoking is already banned in offices and public buildings. It should be banned in hotel rooms, too.

I personally think smoking should be banned in Disney......or at the least designate it to the parking lot! Also I agree with the hotels that are charges high fees for persons caught smoking. I have asthma and I get migraines from cig smoke. I also have a 20 month old who I really don't want breathing that crap in! :rolleyes2

Well, not really. Smoke is a very, very serious health hazard. Every person alive has a medical reason to avoid it, literally. I totally don't understand what your point is??? :confused3

I agree, TinkerbellMama - the hazards of second hand smoke have been so well documented that any non-smoker has the right to request a non-smoking room for medical reasons, imho anyway. As it happens, we have a daughter with asthma (Norway, it's quite common, especially in children). Every time we've visited Disney they've accommodated our non-smoking request. When dh and I visited for an adults-only trip, we also requested non-smoking for medical reasons - the smell of that stuff makes us sick! You shouldn't have to endure headaches and nausea in your hotel, even if you aren't going to go into respiratory arrest in a smoking room. And if you're paying $300 or more per night, who'd put up with it?

The only place we've ever had a problem with a non-guaranteed smoking room was the Hershey Lodge - more than $200 bucks a night 10 years ago and they still didn't want to honor our "request" at check-in, though I'd been specific about having an asthmatic 8 y/o when I made the reservation. They kept us waiting around for half an hour looking for a manager, who reluctantly upgraded us to a section of the lodge where non-smoking rooms were still available - but only when we made clear we were leaving if they didn't honor the request. There are nicer places to stay in Hershey where non-smoking rooms ARE guaranteed.

What's up with folks who smoke in non-smoking rooms? It seems as if there are plenty of smoking/transitional rooms available, so why is it necessary?

I'd gladly give you my asthma. It would be one less "sick" American.

That's not entirely true. Disney does book specific room types (water view, trundle bed, king bed, etc) so, if the guest has made a reservation for that type, then, barring an overbooking of the resort and a later arrival, that's the type they're going to get.

This is coming from someone who has worked reservations both at Disney and another non-Disney resort. At the non-Disney resort, we had few room types, but if the guest had paid for the pool view, that's the view they received. If the guest was booked into a room with one queen bed (we only had two rooms that way), that's what they got, again, barring an overbooking of the resort.

Specific types of rooms are guaranteed. Requests are not. :)

Having allergies doesn't make one "sick" nor does not wanting to breathe in 50 different types of carcinogens because someone else wants to commit a slow suicide. So, yes, I'd say you're wrong.

Just wondering if you are a smoker, I work with many Europeans and it seems that they are still more heavy smokers then folks in the USA and that they seem to feel that it is still very socially acceptable.

Please forgive me to those who don't, I am not trying to categorize anybody this is just an observation, of people that I work with.

Thanks Dave

PS I have been told by a couple of specialists that the reason for my asthma and my sinus problems do to smoke and perfumes is most likely related to my 25 yr smoking habit
I have been smoke free for 5 yrs as of next week and I have not want to ever go back to smoking, now if I could just have a simple cold beer, quit drinking almost 17 years ago.............lol I don't miss the smokes but I sure do miss a cold beer sometimes..lol
