Have you heard this expression yet?

The president of PETA suggested (jokingly--or maybe not ;) ) that this is what we should start calling dogs.

It's like calling cats "Feline Americans," but for whatever reason, the whole thing cracks me up.

I've been calling my dog, Max, a "Canine American" all week. It's a good thing he responds to pretty much anything I call him.

That's pretty funny - think the Canine Americans will be allowed to vote???

I hope not. My "Canine American" would be swayed way too easily by anyone waving a Milkbone.

If Ingrid Newkirk said that, belive me...she WASN'T joking! ;)

I think it's a funny term, and I might start throwing it around for laughs, but I certainly wouldn't take it seriously.

Sadly, I'm sure she wasn't. Next thing, she'll be complaining that dogs and cats are Americans being denied their Constitutional Rights.

What if you have a german shepherd?

Would it be a german american canine?

I don't care if my cat is called a Feline American or not. I'd just like for the gov't to consider her a dependant, so I can file her with DS on the income tax forms. I mean, I do everything for her that I do for DS: I feed her, bathe her (if she needs it, which is rare), provide her with shelter and toilet needs, play with her and provide her with love. In my mind, that makes her a dependant, only we don't get to claim her. ;)

Well...she doesn't believe any animal should be kept as "pets", so I imagine the infringement of rights is not too far out of her mind.

Oh yeah!! I would love to add a few "deductions" to my taxes! :rotfl2:

Good point! I need another deduction.

My German American canine is confused enough already. She doesn't need any additional confusion in her life. She doesn't want to vote or join the army. She would however, like to drive the family SUV (I don't think she has to be an American to do this). :sad2:

This job description will not make her smarter, more obedient or put more milk bones in her food bowl. So isn't it a ridiculous concept? :confused3

Soooo, what would I call my Rusian Blue "puppy-cat"?
Canine-feline Russian-American? CFRA... or if I mix the letters a little, he can be a FRAC.

I have jokingly used this term for years, however I don't really think I was the only one.

I suppose next up is "Take Your Dog to Work Day".

I suppose those people who supported the Defense of Marriage Act will now have another reason to support their position.

Will Canine Americans have to 18 to vote? (...and will that be measured in dog or people years?)

When will canines be allowed to adopt humans ?(i.e. Sherman and Mr. Peabody--OK that one was not Disney)

Ingrid Newkirk does not mind if people have pets as long as they adopt them from a shelter or a shelter like place. She likes the term Companion Animal better than pet. Ingrid Newkirk does not like puppy mills and she does not believe that people should breed animals. Check out this link http://www.peta.org/about/faq-comp.asp

My dog is like one of our kids, except hairier and she smells worse (most of the time :teeth: ) I think she should be a Canine American and I think we should all learn to speak Canine. Why should she have to learn English? Boy, would I like to be able to put her on our Dental Plan too- she could use some work :rotfl2:

So if the they are Canine Americans, how do I describe my dog who is a mixed breed German/ Labrador is he a Bi-Cainine American? What if your dog has more than one country attached to him/her?

If the legal age for a Canine American is 18 in dog years then what if a male Canine of say 17 gets "cute" with a female of say 14 will we put him in jail? IF two Canine Americans "marry" from different households in whose household are they obligated to live? IF two Canine Americans marry and have offspring are they allowed to just give them away or do they need to go through extened legal procedures before the can be adopted out of the family? Will dog food packages be written in English, Spainish, and Canine?

Will Canine Americans be able to get government assistance?

NO WAIT will they have a CANINE AMERICAN ACHIEVMENT award and ONLY CANINE AMERICANS can participate? Isn't that decrimination against Feline Americans as well as the rest of us? Will they have beauty pagents JUST for Canine Americans. I hope not...more descrimination.

I bet the SAT people will be licking their chops...they can develop a Canine American test for college entrance. When they go to college will they be forced to study Human American Literature or will we all forced to read books about young canines coming of age in a human society.
Will we be able to elect Canine Americans to govermental offices? NO Wait we have already had a couple in office they just disgused themselves as humans.

I think there have been many precedents set for the assimilation of Canine Americans into our society. Hey what if a canine crosses the border from another country illegally...does he have all the rights of a Canine American?

WILL CANINE AMERICANS be forced to wear clothes????? Up unitil now this has been opitional and at the whim of the human companion. The signs say..NO SHIRT, NO SHOES. NO SERVICE!

Can anyone tell I have work to do and am procrastinating on this thread?

Does that mean he would vote Democrat?
