Candy for trick or treat

We used to leave a bowl out the first few years. Someone took the bowl and table. The TABLE. WTH. We used to also trade from the bowl and the kids bag as there was always something they would not eat. We dump into the last few visitors. My kids are also picky, no nuts, no coconut just plain chocolate. We buy Mike and Ike because it is hard to go crazy eating them(my issue) and our neighborhood is now mostly teens. Less and less pick chocolate, go figure. It would be my first choice. I am thinking we will not get too many this year as I think most of the kids have aged out. We had hundreds the first 10 years or so. I hope we get at least 100 this year. If that is the case, time to thin out the Halloween decorations as they take up so much space. How many 5 foot skeletons does one family need?http://www.disboards.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

My neighborhood is one that gets swamped with kids from other neighborhoods. Most people still give out candy - I'd say 60% of the houses, maybe a bit more. Some people have cut back to only giving out smaller pieces of candy like one or two Hershey kisses. Others keep a stash of "good stuff" for the neighborhood kids, the rest get cheaper stuff. Us? We always have and always will give out the fun size candy bars to everyone. My father, cheap as he was, always loved candy and so always insisted on giving out candy bars - and doing the same thing each year reminds me of him. I know he is looking down from heaven saying "that a girl!". And I even give to the adults without much grudging - I mean, if they are desperate enough to go out trick or treating for candy (think a minute about what would drive you to think that's a great time), then I'm happy to give them a small sugar rush for a night!

I buy 120 packs of fun dip and 100 full sized bars- I give the kids a choice and amazingly they usually always choose the fun dip!

I love this idea of fun dip!! I'm definitely adding them to the candy bag this year, it's a retro cool candy!

My grocery store had some candy on clearance yesterday. (Kinds we like). So I bought six bags. Now to keep them hidden away from ourselves until the 31st of Oct.

This is always my downfall, buy them while they're on sale and eat them before I get to hand them out.

We weren't home for Halloween last year, but I do up the lights and decorations so I thought it would be crummy not to have a bag of treats out. I had a huge soda/ice container filled with candy, temp tattoos (teens LOVE these) and oriental trading trinkets. I left a sign asking for people to take only one or two but I figured everything would be gone almost immediately. NOPE! People really did just take a couple, there were still a few things in the bucket when we got home (mostly pencils).

Usually, as in this year, we hand out candy and the houses are so few and far in between I like to hand out heaping handfuls of snack size chocolates and candy. I feel bad we don't have a great townhouse type neighborhood so I think they should get a little more for their trouble. And we don't have but maybe 50 TOTers.

I also watch the circulars for the candy coupons, they're usually pretty good and work well with the local store sales.

I also dress up, usually as a 7 foot tall dementor... this one little boy apparently looks forward to it all year and was devastated the first year 'the reaper' wasn't home.

I ended up buying some for this year after reading pp's comment. The kids loved the idea. Our Walmart had Frozen-themed ones. There weren't enough, so I also got air heads.
And then I got a back-up of Halloween-themed rice krispies treats that I can throw in lunch boxes if they're not used. I ended up with enough for around 475 kids. I spent $60, which is less than normal.

And the best thing is that none of those are things that I will eat.

Our neighborhood gets flooded with kids from all over our town as well as all the surrounding towns. Each one picks which night to hold trick or treating, allowing people to hit up multiple towns.
How much candy do they think their kids need?!?!

Anyway, we had to quit giving out candy a couple of years ago.
We hit 600+ and threw in the towel.
I can't afford to give candy to all the kids in NW Ohio!!

I wish everyone would stay in their own neighborhoods/towns so we could get back to a normal amount of kids.
