When coupons used to be good I found a bunch of coupons for $1/2 butterfinger candy bars. Then the grocery store had a sale where they were 3/$1. That is the only year I ever handed out full size bars and I probably never will again! We're in a new house this year, so I asked a few neighbors. Most have agreed that we'll get around 400 kids. My son wanted me to hand out full-size candy bars.....uh no. At 50 cents a piece that's $200!!!

You don't have set hours? Even in the neighborhoods outside of town everyone follows the closest town's hours (almost always 6-8.)I buy 120 packs of fun dip and 100 full sized bars- I give the kids a choice and amazingly they usually always choose the fun dip! I only open the boxes of candy as needed because any left over I return. Some years we go through it all and others I have left over. Last year was light but this year since its on a Friday night the kids will be out longer trick or treating. Next year I will have to stock up majorly since it is on a Saturday that means they start coming at noon straight though the evening. I always remember as a kid when Halloween would fall on Saturday and sunday- man did we love it, we would be out all day and evening trick or treating, just stopping home to unload and then get right back out there!

noooo- 6-8 is only 2 hours!! Our kids come home from school, throw their costumes on and hit the road getting in as much fun as they can until night time- usually by 9 they stop coming around. We also don't have lights on or lights off stuff- every house gets knocked on. Most people here have sensor lights that light up only when someone steps up on the front walk so they don't stay on.You don't have set hours? I usually give out things like whistles, bouncy balls, glow bracelets or other fun bracelets. I figure they get enough candy, so I try to find something fun.
We get about 150-200 kids.
No set hours where I live. I've had trick or treaters come until about 11pm
I used to always buy full size bars. The last couple of years everyone knows this and I have been getting repeat teens and adults (!) who then ask for 1 for their baby!! no good deed goes unpunished.
So this year it's minis. If you buy them at Sam's, you can return unopened bags.
. No baby gates anymore, but I might put one back up because he's a lab and thinks everyone is his friend. I'll be trying to pull him away from the door all night.

This post just made me wonder what the heck to do with the dog this year. Last year he was a puppy and I had to launch myself over the baby gate every time the doorbell rang. No baby gates anymore, but I might put one back up because he's a lab and thinks everyone is his friend. I'll be trying to pull him away from the door all night.
