Candy Cane Inn Review with Pictures

amamax2

Thank you so much for your detailed report and wonderful photos - it really hepled me make an informed choice on where to stay in April. I am now sure that I've made the right decision - hopefully though I can reduce the amount of clothes I pack - I say that every year and never seem to achieve my aim though:rotfl:

pigby,

You Are SOOOOO welcome. I love this board because everyone is so willing to help others have the BEST experience possible. I have been helped so many times and am so glad when I am able to contribute.

I hope you have a fantastic time here!

I see you are heading to DLRP soon - we went a few years ago - only managed to be there half a day (long story) but loved it and can't wait to go back again. We are actually hoping for a trip to the U.K., Ireland, and France in 2012, so I may be PMing you with questions one day!

The DLRP trip was a bit of a surprise - we had already booked our flights to DLR in April when we won a 2 night break to DLRP in March - flights, hotel and tickets for the 3 of us. Really cool to get a Disney vacation for free - competition was in a magazine. We have stayed at DLRP a few times including this hotel once before.

If you need any help planning for 2012, please ask -:goodvibes would love to be able to help

Has anyone on this thread stayed at both the BWPPI and the CCI? I'm planning a quickie trip in February with just my daughter and myself, and when comparing room rates for both of these, I'm wondering if CCI is significantly better than BWPPI. We will be staying at BWPPI next month for our long trip, and when I compared the two for two nights in Feb, the CCI came in at almost $70 more, despite BWPPI being so much closer.

So, anyone who has an opinion feel free to educate me! :)

I've never stayed at BWPPI but do they have free parking and a free breakfast like CCI? That is something to take into consideration. And of course, CCI has a free shuttle which is a bonus since CCI is already very close to DLR (but not as close as BWPPI). CCI is also a cute little hotel. It's basically a 2 story motel but they've dressed it up pretty nice, imo. I know that isn't much help since i haven't stayed at BWPPI but those seem to be the main reasons people like CCI.

Thank you, LavendarPeach. BWPPI does have a free breakfast (that sounds very similar in comparison to CCI), but they do charge $8 / day for parking.

Someone mentioned room rates and seasons. They do change depending on the season. Last summer we looked at the last week of July and discovered that it was $20 cheaper a night to go the first week in Aug instead. So that is what we did.

And in my case, I believe it can also be certain days of the week. We were checking in on Sunday and I think allot of hotels/motels are cheaper on Sunday nights! Combined with a quiet time (no holiday) I received a great rate! :thumbsup2

We've stayed there more times than I can count. Probably over 12 times. We've also stayed at Camelot, Desert Inn and Suites, Grand Californian and Paradise Pier. I like the Disney ones better, but like CCI more than the other two. It is easy and comfortable, plus the breakfast and shuttle makes a difference. We also like having a car right outside the door.

Since this excellent review gets bumped from time to time, I figured I'd add my Shuttle comments. Good info for CCI patrons who are early morning types & plan to use the CCI's DEDICATED shuttle.

I like the CCI alot.....& will offer a few of opinions regarding the shuttle:

- It's great. Runs dependably at the same time every half hour.

- My experience is that it runs 5 min. late. (Great if you're running to catch it), but if you're tapping your toes wanting it to take off, be advised.

- If you're a "get to the park early" semi-commando type (like me)....the first run to the park will leave the CCI at 7:35 for an 8am opening. (or 6:35 for a 7am MM opening). This doesn't work for the "want to be first at the turnstile" person.... since the security tent will open at :30. IMO it's best to leave by ten after & walk the 9 min. & get to the Security tent at :20 in the AM if your goal if to be near or at the front of the turnstile. (& it's a pleasant walk to start the day fyi).

- Also if you're an early bird, you'll likely take a mid day rest.....this is where the CCI is GREAT. Take the dedicated shuttle (with no crowds) back to the CCI at noon or in the early afternoon....& then again back to the parks (or DTD) for your early evening touring...again the little shuttle bus will be empty (just be aware of the departure times).

- If planning on riding the shuttle immediately after the fireworks (or at closing), expect a crowd (& possible waits). Like everything else at DLR, it's best to zig when all others are zagging.

When we stay at the CCI, we'll typically take the little dedicated shuttle 2 (or 3) times a day & walk one (or two) leg a day. The shuttle takes (at most) 5 min. to travel from the CCI to the "DLR drop off" & only 2-3 min. to make the return trip from the DLR drop off back to the CCI. (& fyi....from the DLR "drop off" it's a 1-2 min. stroll to Security & the turnstiles.)

Have a great time at the CCI & at Walt's Park.

What a great thread!! Love the review and the photos!!

This is a great thread! :thumbsup2

Has anyone stayed at CCI recently? Its been a while since DH & I stayed there (Oct) because we just did not like all the "Carsland" noise. Has things quieted down on the construction of Carsland? TIA.

I stayed there the past 5 days. I did not notice any noise at all from Carsland.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their experience at the Candy Cane Inn. We've always considered CCI but have yet to stay there. Will definately keep it at the top of our list for next time.:thumbsup2

We stayed at CCI for our third time this past July. I've never heard any noise from Carsland during any of our stays but we always get up for park opening.

We enjoyed our stay this trip just as much as before. We timed our walk to the park one day. It was 8 min. to get to the security in the morning. Walking home at night when we were tired, it took us 12 min. :)

We also brought our own Keurig coffee machine because we don't care for their coffee. :confused3 Maybe it is the water down there that ruins all the coffee. We used bottled water to make ours.

The back side of Carsland! :)

Thanks for the review! I've seen the Candy Cane Inn and always wondered what it was really like, your pictures did a great job of filling me in.

Yup, when we stayed at CCI back in Oct 2010, we had checked in on a Sunday and went right to the Parks. Being the weekend, there was no construction going on at all. Monday morn at 6am we awoke to all this intense construction noise. :headache:

Glad to know the construction is almost complete. :thumbsup2
