Candles OK in rooms?

It seems like a silly question, but we stayed at a hotel near Niagara Falls for our 10th anniversary a few years back. We light a few candles in the room and when we blew them out, I was totally paranoid that the sprinkler system would sense the smoke and kick on. Ever since I've been skeered to light a candle in a hotel room.

Does anyone know if this is an acceptable thing to do?

Are you staying at a resort with outdoor corridors? If so, maybe you can just step out for a second to blow it out.

Or, they have those cone shaped snuffers, they usually minimize the smoke. I think most of the candle shops in the malls sell them.

Candles are considered a fire hazard and are not allowed lit in hotel rooms. If you are not sure you can always check with the front desk.

Get the flameless candles. They have basically the same effect....without the hazards. I know not quite the same thing....but nice all the same.

:)

Sprinklers are triggered by intense heat not smoke. I'd be more worried about the smoke detecters going off in the room.

As for candles in your room, you could ask at the front desk or even call on the phone from your room.

We are staying in a villa so definately an indoor corridor.

I had read multiple people on the "what do you put in your owner's locker" referring to candles so it got me thinking maybe I was wrong in my assumption? I did somewhat mean sprinklers and/or smoke detectors.

I will check with the front desk. Maybe we can light one on our patio while we enjoy cocktails and quiet time.

We once brought 2 candels with us when we stayed at AKL (last time we were there)...we had them going one night and took them out to the balcony to blow out, no problems with anything...then, two days later (while we were still staying at AKL) we got back to our room one night after being in the parks and there was a message on our phone saying "our house cleaning staff has noticed that there are two candels in your room. We ask that you do not light them durring your stay with us. Disney resort hotels consider them to be a fire hazzard and we ask that our guests do not use them durring their stay with us. Thank you..." Then, later I heard from someone (when we were back from our trip) that people can receive a FINE for using them in their rooms? I don't know if this is true, and I don't know if it's different in hotel rooms or villas or what...A guy that works with my husband said "we just got back from staying at Disney and we had to pay a $XX (dollar amount) fine because we lit a candle in our room."
Like I said, I don't know if that's true...but make sure you call ahead or ask before you get a fine!!! I know that we were not aware of that "rule"

Get the flameless candles. They flicker nicely and are not the fire hazard that real candles are.

Okay, not interested in a fine or false fire alarm to achieve a little ambiance! I think I will take the suggestion and pick up the flameless candles.

For myself I got an easy answer to such questions.

I ask myself if I would be happy and oke if people would light up candles, kook meals in an unattended crockpot ore whatever if it was MY hotel / lodging, villa ore what so ever.

If the answer is no I’m quit sure the owner of the hotel thinks the same way .

I do loss control for a commercial insurance company. A former hotel customer in CT suffered a loss valued at just under $1,000,000 when guests placed candles on the nightstand and got 'frisky'. They failed to notice that they had tossed a synthetic pillow over the candle. The pillow (despite flame retardants) took off and caught the bed next to it on fire. Most of the damage was water related from the sprinklers going off and dripping onto floors below. The guests were trapped in the room by the flames but able to be rescued from the balcony. Fortunately, they were on the 3rd floor and the fire ladders got them down quickly.

I have taken air sprays or the Glad plug-ins if I think my room needs freshening.

Yep, I get it. I assumed it wouldn't be allowed for all of the same reasons but was wondering why so many people say they had candles in their owner's locker. Thought maybe I was just hyper-sensitive.

People DO leave the crockpots going in their rooms though from the sounds of things.

I always get one of those little room sprays from Bath and Body Works. They have alot of really good scents! I bring them with us on every vacation..you'd understand if you knew my hubby!:rotfl2:

GO CARDS!!!!!

I bought a bunch of little electronic tea lights at AC Moore a couple of years ago. We take those everywhere with us! They make great little night lights, and have lasted for a VERY long time. And they were only 50 cents each!

You can get the flameless candles that are scented and are the size of a small pillar candle. I've seen them for about $6 each.
