Canceling the Disney week!

I think I have made up my mind, but still a little unsure!!!

We are flying to Disney for 3 weeks in October. We have booked a stay at the Sheraton Vistana for 2 weeks 2 Bed, Jacuzzi bath, flatscreens and full Kitchen.
For the last week we have booked into POR with free DQC meals.
After having a think I have decided ( I think ) that it isn't worth the extra £800, and I should book the extra week at the Sheraton (this would cost us about £150 with timeshare ). Even if we upgrade to DDP, the places where we want to take the kids will use up 2 dinner credits, and we would have to wait till the last week to go to them ( as to make us of free DDP ).

If we cancel we could put the money towards these meals anyway, go when we like and stay in Luxury ( would be to us ) for the whole of the 3 weeks.

Would any of you be bothered packing your things to move after 2 weeks, and have a less comfortable room??

But on the other hand it is a Disney hotel....is it worth the hassle I guess I am asking??

It's not like you'd be moving for just a couple of days, it would be for a week so I think it's justified in that sense. It's up to you, though- only you know your limits!

Can I just ask which restaurants you want to take your children too? Most character meals are one TS credit, not two. The only one I can think of that requires two credits is CRT.

We have only ever stayed on site, so I am not able to identify how offsite varies to onsite.

But from the point of view of having to re-pack and unpack for a week, if what you say will be to a lower rating room, I would personally stay where you are. We always visit for 3 weeks and it normally takes us 10 days to totally relax, the though of them having to pack up and move sounds like a hassle that you dont need.

Now bare in mind I am speaking as a mum of 4 young children all under the age of 9. If it was just DH and I, then maybe I would think differently

We've done it, last year we moved from Hilton Grand Vacation Club International Drive where we spent almost two weeks to the JW Marriott Hotel at Grande Lakes. It is supposed to be one of the best hotels in Orlando but we were bloody miserable, it seemed so cramped and we really missed the space, having our own washing facilities and quieter pools. Have to say it wasn't the re-packing that bugged is, it was just we missed HGVC and it has put me off staying in hotels unless I can have a suite (I'm turning into such a Diva!). It is of course your decision. If it were me I would stay in Vistana. The only thing that would sway my mind is if I had kids and we were staying at a monorail resort as I think they are more convenient with kids when you are at the parks (that and the fact that the only two WDW hotels I like enough to stay in are the GF and the Poly). Are you keeping your car for the week at WDW or would you be relying on WDW transport? I find waiting for buses and boats etc a bit of a drag when you can just drive to where you want to go and I think this would especially be the case with kids.

I have 2 kids Isabelle 7yrs and Henry will be 4yrs. We have hired a car for 3 weeks so Transport isn't an issue, we will be able to just pick up and go, wherever we want, when we want, which is kind of how we roll anyway

@fairytale - I have 2 young kids and I think your right, it will be a LOT of hassle

@head in the clouds - this is a huge suite which is really tempting me to stay put, and I'm sure your not a Diva

@disney princess 85 - 1 is Mickeys Cookout and not sure what the other was, just going to have a look now

We are moving twice and like you are moving from a suite (LBV resort and spa with jacuzzi in the bedroom) to SSR studio and then a savannah studio in AKL which to be honest I have no issues with at all as would sleep in the lobby there but to get the free dining and as we wont be driving and also not being able to stay away from the magic for more than 5 days when im there it seemed the best solution.I f I had thought about it I would have done 7 on site first (to get KTTW pass) and then 7 off at a luxery suite that way can pop back for a fix.
I would probably change as well as like you say you may be disappointed BUT then staying in disney has such a magical feeling and I am sure people will agree. Waht if you booked the minimum to get your free DDP (5 nights) and did an extra 2 at vistana Would that save you anything or perhaps do your disny week first then vistana so it won,t feel so enclosed.It depends how much time you plan on staying in the room.Most use for a base and to sleep and a relax by the pool for a chill out day. I have a young daughter and to be honest it doesnt bother her where she stays But AKL is her favorite as we did a tour of all the resorts last time(always been mine along with poly) and as its my 40th my boyfriend has treated us He also said we would stay in a cheapie for the first 5 nights (£130 ) but ended up booking the above at £59 a night).Hope you make a decision but it must be whats best for you and your family. Stay at the Vistana Resort .... definately!!!

Prime location close to Seaworld, I Drive, Disney, restaurants at the Crossroads and the Premium outlets.

Have stayed at the VV twice now and adore the place, however my friend stayed at the VR and she loved it too!

Don't waste the £800 .... we learnt that hard lesson by staying at the Ginn Reunion last year .... nice villa but sooooo many dollars!

Firstly, we have moved from a 2 bed condo down to pop before now. We've also done a number of 2 week holidays staying in 3 or even 4 different hotels - that being said, it certainly seems like you feel this will be difficult for you so, simple answer is don't do it.
We've stayed in values, moderates and villas onsite and after spending our first 10 or so trips completely offsite, we really think time onsite is worth it.
I personally wouldn't go to the backyard BBQ as think there are much better character meals at a far cheaper price. To bring the cost down of resaurants on site, go to a lunch sitting if there is one or to a breakfast which will set you up for the day.
It might be a good idea to work out howuch you're likely to spend on ts meals and see if upgrading to the DDP might even be worth it for you.
In the end you'll have a wonderful holiday whatever so happy planning!

I'd stay where you were. I think it would be hard to move to a single hotel room after enjoying space. Also I find at the end of the holiday you are wanting a few more chill out days, may not want as many sit down meals etc. Spend the extra on disney meals as and when you want them.

I wouldn't move, my idea of a holiday does not include having to sleep in the same room as my children (and probably in the same bed as one or other of them) wiggly little beggars.

If I was going to do it, it would be the other way round, start with the one room and then move to the bigger accommodation.

We loved having the car, seeing other stuff Orlando offers, we only went for a week before heading away to another part of Florida for another week.

We didn't eat at Disney for every meal, we just picked some places we really wanted to try (Chef Mickey's, Coral Reef, Crystal Palace and California Grill - this one without kids)

Hi...just updating for those of you who replied

I called Thomas Cook Signature who we booked everything through and asked about canceling the 1 week accomodation with Disney. Liz who is dealing with our enquiry and she said that we would have to cancel the whole Holiday as that would mean that we are having a flight only package, which they don't do! If we cancelled then we would lose our £600 deposit.

I asked if we could cancel the disney week and change it for the cheapest possible accomodation they could find as we won't be using it, she rang back to say after charges it would leave us £65 better off.

Needless to say we are keeping the Disney accomodation, but we are not going to use it we are going to saty the extra week in the Sheraton!!

So all in all........bummer

We're planning 25 nights in a condo at Windsor Palms, 8 nights in a condo on the Gulf Coast and then the final 2 nights in the Beach Club. I'm quite happy to do the moving BUT my kids are 20 & 23 and this will be our final fling at Disney and, having spent Easter at the Beach Club are very keen to have our last memories from there. It really was our perfect hotel!
