Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

We are torn. We are going ahead (for now) with our Disneyland trip for our GD's birthday in 2026. We have a limited amount of time where she will still get to experience the "magic" of Disney. And we don't want to miss it.

We would love to go to more Nascar races - but you can imagine that crowd finding out we are Canadian. I don't think that will go over well.

For now we are focusing on other areas to see. I told dh Ireland, Scottland and the UK would be a nice start :rolleyes1 Who knows what tomorrow will bring. It may be a different world in 6 - 9 months when we start to plan for that.

We have plans to drive down to Florida at the end of June, but with the trade wars escalating, and the President becoming more and more irate with Canada, I imagine his supporters will become more and more irate with Canadians.

I feel safer flying at this point, than travelling down south with Ontario plates.
So that’s probably what we’ll do if we go. But we’ll likely end up cancelling altogether.

We cancelled our trip for next September. There’s no hope for flight refund ( as they were westjet ultra basic fare) . Our Bonnet Creek renter returned our money and also refunded the cancellation fee. They totally understood and were apologetic and kind to us. That made me cry.

The whole thing hurts but there would be no way we could enjoy ourselves with the current sentiment. Honestly, I had to shove aside a lot of my personal ethics to keep going to Florida as it was. This is just the nail in the coffin.

I’m fully expecting much more than Tarriffs. With today’s announcements on declaring a “National Emegency on Electricity “ we are looking at the pretext for putting troops on those states borders. We’ve gone past rhetoric and I can’t believe this is where was are. It’s been real Disney … thanks for the memories.

This has been weighing on me for a while, and its comforting knowing other Canadians feel conflicted about a trip to the US.
I have been wanting to plan another trip to Orlando within the next year or so in order to check out Epic Universe, but don't feel comfortable committing to anything quite yet.

Between the weird 51 state sentiments, the tanking CAD/USD conversion rate, and general unease about the state of politics, we will probably hold off for the next year (at least) to see how things shake out.

I don't think i would feel physically unsafe, per se, but would rather spend my vacation $ in a place that is a little less volatile.

I'll probably re-assess in 1-2 years and see how i feel.

I posted in a previous thread that I would allow temporary discussions about how the current environment impacts decisions on traveling to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. First, I apologize to the OP for the derailment. I meant well, but it did not work.

This is the ONLY thread dedicated to Canadian residents, and it is the only place where members can discuss this topic openly and without personal attacks on other members.

I will personally monitor and respond to reports.
Corey, are American Dis members allowed to post on this thread?

We typically only go every other year as we fly from Vancouver Island, so our next trip would be potentially in 2026. We’re DVC owners and the low Cdn$ sure hurts those annual dues. We may rent our pts and go somewhere else or maybe if they get a trouncing in the midterm elections that may entice us to go. I don’t know - so torn but we don’t have to decide right now. Never thought we would be here - it’s just so sad.

Can you request a credit from WJ ? I am
Not familiar with the ultra-basic fare.

3 1/2 weeks until my return to the bubble. I was not cancelling, it’s fully paid for and non-refundable (includes 4 day cruise). Also probably one more trip to WDW this year if I can coordinate with my friend (who is American) as we have AP’s and do 2-3 trips a year. She knows I’m on the fence about renewing for another year. I’ll see where things are at later this year.

At least I can still travel to the US - my cousin who also loves Disney cannot in the current political climate as she’s trans and fears what may happen if she crosses the border. Instead she wants to plan a trip with me to Disneyland Paris in 2026.

I have a double cruise booked next January from Fort Lauderdale. I booked it all just before all this nonsense happened. I would love to cancel and go somewhere else but it has become a family trip and they seem unconcerned. If I had known I would have probably have decided to go to Milano-Cortina for the Olympics in 2026.

I would love to hear back from others who did drive down this year to hear how it went. This could go a long way to easing our minds for a next trip. Note: it's not about feeling safe ad WDW, that always feels safe; more it's the 4,500 km of open road to get there and back. I remember our trip home in March 2020 with COVID just starting to rage and how isolated that drive can feel.
My Dad and I just drove down and back last week for a Celebrity cruise out of Ft Lauderdale. No issues whatsoever on the drive with Ontario plates. SUV always parked outside every night at hotels. We crossed at the Thousand Islands bridge then down through NY state, Pennsylvania, Virginia, etc. A tip for those who don't drive to Florida often, stop at the welcome center for each state on entry and pick up the free hotel coupon books. Most Mon-Fri you'll find 30-40% off coupons for well known chains and it's a help with the poor dollar conversion rate. The Celebrity cruise was wonderful. I'm taking my niece in a month on another so very impressed. The food was superior and the infinite balcony cabin a big plus. Only issue on the highways was truck drivers crowding our lane and hanging their wheels over the line. We hit a few snow squalls at Syracuse NY then weirdly in North and South Carolina so crowding got a bit dicey. But professional drivers here aren't that great or professional anymore either. Biggest problem was extended family critical of others leaving Canada for any reason whatsoever. We explained the cruise was booked 8+ months ago and fully paid before recent issues, etc but still hostile. It seems travel is very much a black and white issue with no room for compromise. ps I also drove back late February 2020 with COVID very much in mind after a cruise of out Canaveral. It was very much a different vibe on the highways. But not like that now. Hope that helps.

Crowds are extremely low this week at Disney - a traditionally 9/10 crowd week due to Ontario’s March Break. Unreal to see Magic Kingdom at a level 3 all week, and parks at a level 4 overall!

The Canadian Boycott effect is striking.

Dont believe the hype,,,lol,,here now and not as busy as before on march breaks,,,but still busy,,,pandora was over 2 hours |GOG was up close,,,tron hit 105mins,,even rocknroll last night was 95mins for my daughters at 8pm,,,so there are still some long lines. Jammed,no,,but still busy.

I'm headed down in a week, first trip of the year, looking forward to getting back. No qualms about driving, I enjoy the trek, but flying this time. Airfare prices had dropped slightly the past few weeks, but car rental prices remain high, which is usually indicative of demand.
Here's hoping an election will put an end to the back and forth rhetoric, plenty of blame to go around.

We recently drove from southern ontario, staying at HHI and then SSR - i can say it was a lovely trip with no issues. We had anticipated hearing some political talk but there was zero, we spent time chatting with cast members and other guests and it never came up. That said, things have continued to escalate so its as unpredictable as all the headlines have been. We live close to the border and have friends that live over the river, we frequent sporting events and shopping in the USA so this all feels very bizarre and sad frankly.

We usually visit Disney World a couple times a year & always every fall for the Halloween party. We also enjoy the US national park system & try to visit one park each summer. With the current political situation we will not be visiting the US. I’m already in Disney withdrawal but we are moving forward with planning some international travels that have been put off due to the cost of our Disney world pilgrimages. Just trying to figure out what to do about my DCL placeholder……maybe a cruise out of Singapore?!

Yes, there are obviously still some long lines. That said, Touring Plans uses statistical data. Hard facts, not hype. And the facts are that crowds are way down this week compared to a typical March Break in previous years.
