Canadian Magic ~ June 10, 2012

Wow. It seems that most of you folks are coming from the East Coast. The last time I visited NY was when I was 14 years old....we spent a month on Long Island and only went into the city TWICE!!!! Oh, and I wasn't taken to any Broadway shows (I'm a big musical geek and would have LOVED it). I still give my parents a hard time over that one, lol. Since I haven't been up in that area since 1992, I'm going to do as much as possible because much of it is slightly forgotten over time.

Where is everyone coming from? Crest, New Mexico (less than 10 minutes outside of Albuquerque, on the green side of the Sandia mountains

Are you flying or driving in? I'm definitely NOT driving all the way from New Mexico!

Coming early or staying later? Both. Flying into the Washington D.C. area, spending 2 nights exploring D.C. Then taking the train up into NYC and spending 2 nights there before boarding The Magic (Saving the best for last :) )

Any plans in NYC before we get onboard? All the touristy things, of course. And I'm planning on catching a show (Hopefully Disney's Newsies, which should be showing on at least one of the nights I'm there....it's run ends on the 10th). Yes, I loved that movie as a kid, which coincidentally came out when I was 14, the summer that I visited NY. And now that they're doing a Broadway production, it just seems to fit perfectly. (Yeah, I'm kind of a nerd, lol)

I think there are a lot of east coasters because there are no planes involved. It will be nice not to have to fly to the ship.

You live in a beautiful part of the country. My son got married in Santa Fe in 2010 and we spent 10 days in the area enjoying all the sights. It was wonderful.

If you do have a chance to see any other plays, try to get tickets for Wicked or Jersey Boys. Those are two of my favorites. I am a lover of musical theater as well.

I am definitely thrilled to not have to fly! I haven't been to NYC since my husband and I traveled up in 2001...it was a quick trip, too quick!

I don't know if I'll get to see the play on Broadway, so I'm ordering the film Newsies from Netflix.

I own Newsies. I fell in love with it the first time I watched it in the movie theater almost twenty years ago.

Wow. :scared1: That statement makes me feel very old! :scared1:

Anyway, my love for it may have something to do with a young, handsome Christian Bale, lol.

Glad to know that one of you East Coasters might be somewhat familiar with the Southwest, and realize that it's not just a big brown dust cloud ;)

I have seen the national tour of Wicked (Wicked AWESOME!), but not Jersey Boys.

It will be only my 9 year old son and myself visiting, so whatever show I choose, he will HAVE to be there with me. I was interested in "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying", as I love 60's fashion and music...not to mention the 1967 movie. But I called the theatre to see who was in the starring role, and they said it would be Nick Jonas. Ugh. The screechiest Jonas Brother? :headache: NO THANKS!! No matter where I go in my life, I cannot escape bumping into the Jo-Bro's in real life (Disneyland, Disney World, Las Vegas airport, sitting in the garden box next to me watching a concert at the Hollywood Bowl.....etc). They have become the bane of my existence! Lol.:rotfl:

PS---hope I didn't offend any Jonas Brother fans out there! :rolleyes1

Hi everyone,

I thought I would check in here about the email I received today. It was a "explore your port excursions before they fill up" email for the 6/10 cruise.

They still arent there :confused3 did anyone else get this?

That got me all excited to, got to website and nothing for Canada.

BTW:
FROM: Mercer County NJ
FLYING or DRIVING: Sharing a car service with couple we are traveling with (not flying was a major selling point for us).
EARLY or LATER: Nope.
PLANS IN NYC: Nope.

Where in VA are you moving Kim? And how exciting that you're husband will be coming home! It's my kids' first trip to NYC too!

Northern Virginia, most likely Fairfax County. Hubby most likely going back to Pentagon.for

And yes so excited for hubby to come home. Will probably post a double digit celebration post and confuse all of you as it will be for him and not the cruise!

More info! I hate that we are the first cruise and won't be able to get info from other folks, but at least Disney could give us some help!

I'm happy to say that there will be a third person joining my mom and myself. My DF Katelyn. She is my overly Disney enthusiastic 23 yr old CM friend that has never cruised before and could care less where the cruise goes as long as she is cruising with her pal Mickey. I'm so excited to introduce her to cruising and Disney Cruising at that. :woohoo:

Oh btw.....

140 DAYS!!!

Traveling with my sister, jenxogirl, and her family. This will be my first cruise and I am so looking forward to it!

:cool1:
And she's in! We are busy working on our Fish Extender ideas...it is so hard for us to keep this a secret from my two girls...we are always whispering and planning late at night!:rotfl:

Welcome to the new folks :yay::yay::yay:

The FE list has been updated from the PM's I have gotten, please feel free to check it for accuracy.

We are under 140 days (Thanks Shea!!) My thoughts so far are to close the list at 30 days, if anyone has any objections please PM me or post here. That will make the close date May 10, 2012.

Cayla

Thanks for coordinating this Cayla!!! Our girls have their own cabin, but I think I'll keep their fish extenders on our cabin so it's easier for everyone to deliver and keeps their location private (Momma Bear here).

I can't wait to see what port adventures DCL comes up with, it's driving my planning self insane :headache:

Unless there are objections, this list will close at 30 days prior to sailing. That will mean the close date is May 10. As of today we are at 16 cabins (43 adults with 7 children) this information is on the spreadsheet at the top (under the header columns).

If this group swells to more than 40 cabins I will split the list. The question becomes how do we want it split? Fore/aft or by deck? I have seen it done both ways and the work fine - I personally will do the whole list, which is an option of course for everyone.

just let me know if there is a preference in how I split it (hopfully we need to do this!!)

I suggest closing the group now, and calling it the Mickey Group. From my past experience 16 cabins is more than enough for a five night cruise. Forty cabins is a lot to buy and or make something for and to distribute. If anyone else wants to join then we could start a second group, the Minnie Group. And as you mentioned, participants would have the option of being in both groups. If we wait to May to close the group then it will be hard for people to purchase or make items in advance of the cruise date.

good points. It is really up to the group as a whole. I participated in lists that closed 2 weeks before sailing (that was rough!). How about closing at 60 days and using your idea of Mickey/Minnie groups?

That would make the close date April 10 - does that give folks enough time?

I don't mind closing the group at 30 days. Though I do think waiting till the group of cabins hits 40 to split is a high number. My suggestion would be if it hits somewhere around 26-30. Then there would be 13 to 15 cabins. And if we magically hit 40 then there would be at the most 20 cabins.

And for those stressing about gifts, our cabin has already begun making gifts for those already involved and will make more as people add. Just a suggestion. And if buying items, it is always easy to replace with something similar. And in the end, atleast for me, I always enjoy variety.

ok - so we change the close date to April 10, and the group size to be no more than 15? I think that works for everyone. Obviously if we stay at 16, then no split, right? If we get to 20 then we split? (trying to keep the group size even is why)
