Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

You posted your last day the day we were in MK! Too bad I didn't know about it, I could have made a dinner ressie (we have eaten there twice, liked it both times) and picked up the paw prints!

Oh, shoot! Thanks for the thought, though.

It would have been a great end to a day that started out as the day from hell and ended up the most perfect day I ever had at WDW.

You mentioned the perfect part, what happened in the hell part?

Unfortunately, I think you posted it that evening, after we had already left. Not that I had much time to read anyway! I hope you can get them; I'd think a phone call might work if you get a good CM. Sometimes they really go crazy with the customer service!

I've got someone leaving soon who said they would try.
And if not, I've got a few more nice people in the wings ready to help.

DISers rock!

Saw your mention of the attitude you go into the parks with. I love my friend dearly, but she is a Type A personality. I am a Type B. On our last day, after lunch, it was just me and my son. The rain that morning had cleared out the crowds, and we just wandered. Hit mine train, didn't care about the 40 min wait. Same with PP, I didn't FP because I wanted to see the queue. Then we jumped on a short wait for HM, had a Mickey Bar while people watching, went to Tom Sawyer's island for the first time, and rode BTMRR twice in the dark before heading back. And there was time spent in rocking chairs we happened upon, just relaxing. Best day ever!

That does sound nice.
How did you like the PP queue?

And I'm quite jealous that you rode BTMRR not once... but twice in the dark!

So sweet you helping Kay's feet. I had terrible trouble with blisters and all. Moleskin helped with that, along with those special 2-ply socks made to prevent blisters. Haven't had a blister since.

Moleskin helped save Kay from blisters, but I've never heard of those socks.
Is that something new?

I also went to a running store that had a treadmill. They looked at my gait and my feet on a special machine and fitted me with the best athletic shoes for them.

Nice! I don't think I've seen anything like that up here.
Did you run on the treadmill? Or could you just walk?

I buy a new pair like every 6 months. I brought two this last trip, and switched back and forth daily.

Wow. I buy a pair and they better last for at least 2 - 3 years, or else!

All my podiatrist did was recommend some kind of insert for high arches...didn't want to deal with that.

Sounds uncomfortable and not very helpful.

After seeing SW: The Force Awakens those Calvin comics make me a little sad. No spoilers, just sayin'.

Seen it.... And I hear you.

Your busses were amazing this trip!

::yes:: I kept thinking "Our luck can't possibly continue, can it?"
And it just kept going, and going, and going...

Looks like you got through security fairly quickly.

In MCO, we really lucked out.
It was a bit slower going in Toronto, though.

But all in all, not really that bad since we weren't in a rush.

We were given some kind of special express security thing when we left our bags curbside. We bypassed the long line and did not have to take off our shoes or belts. They said it was a pilot program, being done randomly . I liked it!

Nice! I've never heard of anyone having that happen to them.

Of course, we got to our gate very quickly and it was running 2 hours late! So we had 4 hours to waste time at the airport...

:headache: Of course.

I'm getting over my post-Disney depression and the Blizzard of 2016 (the bullseye was right over us! We got 30-some inches! Then we had to dig out.), so catching up on the last of your report.

That. Is a butt-load of snow!
Where abouts are you? Near Washington?

Looking forward to Maui!

Me too!

Dunno how many of you read the in-between stuff,
but wanted to let people who's TRs I read know
that I haven't forgotten them.
Just been really busy, so got a bit behind.
I've worked 24 8hour shifts in the past 23 days.
(Would've been 25 but I had to take a day for a family issue.)

Catching up now, though.
So if I haven't been there yet, I will!

We found our gate and then backtracked a bit to a nearby Tim Hortons
since Kay hadn't eaten anything on the plane.
If you don't know what Tim Hortons is, you're officially not Canadian.
It's a donut and coffee shop and is synonymous with Canada.
Everyone who drinks coffee (in Canada) goes to "Timmy's".
Pretty common to hear "I'm going to Timmy's. Anyone want something?"

I love Timmy's! (I haven't been to Canada in years, and there aren't any near me, so I haven't been there in a while)

Yay!! Not dead last!

So today's the day we all face at some point in our lives.
There's death.
There's taxes.
And there's leaving Walt Disney World.

:sad2::sad:

Tis only Mickey,” I muttered, pausing in mid snore.
"Only this and nothing more.”

In the middle of the night Miss Clavel turned on her light and said "something is not right"

That bit reminded me of the Madeline books, I loved those!

Disney, in its infinite wisdom, had determined
that the optimal time for guests to be thrown out of their rooms
was four hours before international flight time.
This actually makes s

4 hours! Torcherous!

Would our VIP bus package turn into a pumpkin*
now that we were checked out?
(It was after midnight you know.)

*Thanks to @cinderkelly for that line!

I got a tag line! Whoop! Whoop! :thumbsup2:banana:

Final Disney Transportation Wait Time
(2 DME busses, 14 busses, 5 boats, 2 monorails): 38 minutes
Average wait time just over 1 1/2 minutes.

I'm still amazed at how lucky you were with transportation! It will be a requirement from now on to have you Disney with me so I may be blessed by the transportation Gods.

I can't sleep on planes either.

Seconds later, she was out cold with her head on my shoulder.

I envy those that can sleep on planes. I'm one of those that can't either.

Okay! That's it! See you in a bit with the first Maui update!

Yea Maui!!!

Seriously though, thanks for keeping us ( and especially me) entertained. I always look forward to reading your TR's, So thank you! :flower1::hug:

Hope all is ok with the family, I remember reading you had to take a day off for a family matter. Two weeks and a few wake ups till Maui wowie! :beach:

I love Timmy's! (I haven't been to Canada in years, and there aren't any near me, so I haven't been there in a while)

Well hi there Mike!
Haven't seen you around here for bit.
Nice to see you again.

Say hi to your aunt for me, okay?

Yay!! Not dead last!

Nope!

In the middle of the night Miss Clavel turned on her light and said "something is not right"

That bit reminded me of the Madeline books, I loved those!

Wow. You're right. I wasn't thinking that when I wrote it, but... "something is not right"

I never read the books, but I've seen the movie several times.
It was one of Elle's faves when she was little.

4 hours! Torcherous!

Especially at that time of day.
Major "ugh".

I got a tag line! Whoop! Whoop! :thumbsup2:banana:

 Yes you did!

I'm still amazed at how lucky you were with transportation! It will be a requirement from now on to have you Disney with me so I may be blessed by the transportation Gods.

Sure. You just have to provide me with transportation to Disney World, food and lodging.
Expensive? Sure. But soooo worth it.

I envy those that can sleep on planes. I'm one of those that can't either.

I don't envy them.

I hate them.

:rolleyes1

Yep. Sorry.

Seriously though, thanks for keeping us ( and especially me) entertained. I always look forward to reading your TR's, So thank you! :flower1::hug:

You're very welcome! :goodvibes

Hope all is ok with the family, I remember reading you had to take a day off for a family matter.

Oh, yeah. It wasn't anything much. Just something that I needed to take care of.

Two weeks and a few wake ups till Maui wowie! :beach:

Yes!!!

So my math's a bit off....
Here it comes.

I fell asleep. Then I got busy too. I like to give your replies my full attention. So what did I end up doing? Quoting all the stuff from your post where i want to commenr on my computer, saving the draft and then having to reply on my phone! :faint:

One last note.
I'm afraid this update will be bereft of any photos.
There just wasn't much to shoot.
Nor much will to shoot what was there.

I can understand that. Your TR has made me realize how truly blessed I am. While I may jest about Fran's shopping habit, there is one thing: we have an almost endless supply of airline miles so we don't need to worry about pricing and schedules. I know you wouldn't willingly choose a flight with a 6:55 departure time, and with as little sleep as you got, I can understand why you don't want to take pictures.

So today's the day we all face at some point in our lives.
There's death.
There's taxes.
And there's leaving Walt Disney World.

<shudder>

What makes it worse, is not having a return trip planned. :scared1:

You know going in that this day will come.
It's inevitable.

And it's worse if you don't stay long enough to get homesick.

"But we live so close we get to go all the time!"

Hey! I resemble that remark. Sort of. In a Walt's original park kind if way.

Shut up! You're ruining my pity-party!
Sheesh.

Let me wallow in misery in peace, okay?

OK. Enough. Wallow.

Are you done yet?

2:00am is not precisely the time of day
I wish to worry about rhyme and scansion.

I'm not sure that there is any time of day that I worry about that. :rolleyes1

We took the long way round, via the elevator.

Well it's about time!

There's something magical about being outside
your resort room at 2:45 in the morning.

Only if you're coming back from someplace like Jellyrolls.

"Leaving?" She asked.
"Yup. Have a 2:55 appointment with Magical Depress."
She laughed at that, which surprised me.
I would've thought she'd heard that one by now.

I would too, but then again Disney CMs go through acting lessons so that they can do and say things to make the guests feel better.

Our flight was scheduled to depart at 6:55am
and Disney, in its infinite wisdom, had determined
that the optimal time for guests to be thrown out of their rooms
was four hours before international flight time.

I actually like the four hour time frame even for domestic flights. Fran moves slower than the average bear and security takes an extra long time because she has all those replacement parts and can't just walk through the metal detectors. Plus this last trip she tried an "experiment" which was loads of fun!

A giant space whale could swallow the earth and then spit us out.
That would undoubtedly slow things down.
If he didn't spit us back out, things would be moot, of course.

I like this! In theory, not practice.

We walked through the doors and the bus driver
was standing beside his bus saying
"Are you pkondz? I was waiting for you."

Sheesh.

So, final wait time and winner of the bonus points:

Final Disney Transportation Wait Time
(2 DME busses, 14 busses, 5 boats, 2 monorails): 38 minutes
Average wait time just over 1 1/2 minutes.

I think we hit this wait time in our first two days of the trip!

Pretty sneaky huh?
I'm forcing you to read to see who the winner actually is.
Hey! Wait! Stop scrolling!!!!

I didn't scroll! :snooty:

Imagine a rectangle and you're standing at the lower right corner.
You see a sign.
It says "Departures. This way! suckers"

So you set out straight ahead, following the sign.
you walk a short distance and you see another sign
filled with different airline names.
You see your airline (WestJet) with a big arrow pointing left.
You turn left and set off down the longest hallway in human history.

OK. I'm totally lost. I would need to an aerial view from a map. I studied that map of MCO in preparation for my last trip so I knew where to find dinner and the hotel, but I missed all this.

"Ho, ho, ho. Little one." I said in my best Santa impersonation.
"Don't worry. I'm sure someone will be along shortly."
I prayed she didn't notice the bead of sweat that had formed
on my forehead as it made it's way inexorably down my cheek.
I smiled benignly at her.
She did not notice the crazed look in my eyes.
Or she pretended not to notice.
On the inside I might have been like this:
panic_zpsyeaj3gr7.gif

Good job Dad!

Since we were first in line, a second line had formed.
And since we were first in line, the second line started to get served.

Of Course!

At long last, our VIP package expired.
And why shouldn't it.
Disney has no control over the coming and going
of passengers at the airport.

Well it's about time!

We walked briskly to the metal detectors, kicked off our shoes,
emptied our pockets, took off our clothes...

Except I knew we were in the right spot.
I'd done this just a few months earlier.

::yes::

We got to our gate and... did pretty much absolutely nothing
for the next couple of hours.

Fun times!

"Why yes. As a matter of fact I am in a Plus seat."
Envy me, people. Envy me.

See I always avert my eyes as the passengers board, I'm afraid that they'll look at me like, "you spoiled b****!

Seconds later, she was out cold with her head on my shoulder.
She slept all the way until we landed in Toronto.

:rotfl2:

It took about half an hour from the time we got in line
until they were scanning and poking our bodies
in an obvious attempt to humiliate us.
Ha! Jokes on them! I'd already publicly humiliated myself in Orlando!
Hmmm... That might explain the wide berth people were giving me.

I don't doubt it, word of your antics probably preceded your approach by now!

If you don't know what Tim Hortons is, you're officially not Canadian.
It's a donut and coffee shop and is synonymous with Canada.

I have never been there, but every TR from a Canadian that I've read involves stopping at a Tim Horton's in the airport.

When we landed and deplaned,
(deplaned! deplaned!)
we headed out and scanned the welcoming crowd for Ruby.
I knew I'd spot her and grins and waves would ensue.

No Ruby.

:faint:

We couldn't even leave the general area
since that's where Ruby'd look for us.

It didn't matter.
Here she was!

Oh good!

We just beat her by a few minutes, is all.

Phew.

We were home and our trip was over.

The End

Congratulations to @jandlinz!

:dance3: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: :dance3:

That's all folks!
See you in Maui!

Okey dokey! Well I started this reply on my phone, but was able to get back to the computer to finish. Looking forward to hearing all about Maui!

My copying quotes quite aren't up to snuff, so will just answer.

The hell part of our last day was my friend being sick and waking up torrential rain. She texted that we would go for lunch (at BOG) so we rolled over and slept in a little. We finally left, the rain still lashing down and we hauled out our ponchos. After dodging the open umbrellas at the MK stop (when you are under the shelter, please close your umbrellas), we went through security and the turnstiles. At least I got thru. My son got stuck. Seemed he had no MK tickets left.

Before we left, he had 5 days left on his old 10 day NE ticket, so I purchased an extra ticket. The CM I talked to told me to scan the actual ticket when we went to AK earlier that week to use that ticket there. Well, it appears that does not work. It just pulls a ticket entitlement from MDE, regardless of which ticket he scanned at the entrance. So only the non-MK ticket was remaining on our last day. Gate CM sent us to stand in line at GS - line was long enough that is wasn't under the overhang so standing out in the pouring rain. I managed to Text my friend and tell her we would be there as soon as we could. Of course, I was crying too, the littlest thing makes me cry and I was wet and frustrated and had been told it would be fine! When we finally got to see someone, she just filled out a slip,of paper. I think she had to OK it with her supervisor, but they let us go without charging us extra.

We get to BOG, can't find our friends anywhere. They let us into the entryway so we stayed dry. We called, we texted
Finally someone told us to check up at the entryway, we found out they hadn't checked in and finally managed to hook up with them just at the time for our ADR. It already was crowded. Not too crazy about BOG. The queue in front is too tight, and the ballroom where we ended up was too noisy. Food was good, but I will probably skip it going forward.

That was the hell. Once we got out, the rain was gone and the day got better. And the estimated 8 crowds never materialized, probably because of the rain. So my son and I set out to just do whatever, which is way more fun then commando. But because of the rain we got an anytime FP for the BTMRR we had scheduled for that morning and missed our PP FP. So I rescheduled the PP FP for BTMRR at 7 pm. And we used the anytime FP for our second time on BTMRR. So that was some good that came out of the rain.

The queue at PP is cute. It takes you through the children's bedrooms. And you see Tink and per pixie dust as lights that appear on and off. I had more fun watching the little girl ahead of me, especially when Tink appeared. Just before you get on the ride you get sprinkled with pixie dust. I was glad we took the time to see it.

If you go to any athletic store, they will carry the socks. There are two kinds, one that wicks moisture away and then the wicking double-ply ones I prefer. It is two layers so it reduces friction somehow and fits snugger on my feet than my regular socks do. I walk a lot in my shoes. When my son was running track, he had to get new shoes every three months because the cushioning in them breaks down. Because I have bad feet, but don't run track, I figure every 6 months is sufficient. This was the first time I switched back and forth daily between two pairs of shoes, and it made a world of difference. at the store, I just walked on the treadmill, and they can look at your gait and decide which athletic shoes work best for you.

We are in Loudoun County, Virginia. We received the brunt of the storm. Rob was safely back at college, so he only got 18". They shovel his walks and keep the dining halls open, so he was in good shape. Just glad we came back the weekend before. Watching the snow fly Friday afternoon, I could remember that only a week ago, a mere 168 hours, we had been enjoying the 70's at WDW.

Now that I have monopolized the conversation, back to you :goodvibes

Carol

Why in the heck would I be mad at you? What could you have done? You just write great TR's! You know I love you!

Well hi there Mike!
Haven't seen you around here for bit.
Nice to see you again.

Say hi to your aunt for me, okay?

I've been reading, but haven't said anything in a while.

I hope I'll get to say hi to her in WDW!

I fell asleep.

Didn't you wake up about one or two hours later?

I like to give your replies my full attention.

I would expect no less.

And when I say "expect", I mean "demand".

So what did I end up doing? Quoting all the stuff from your post where i want to commenr on my computer, saving the draft and then having to reply on my phone! :faint:

:faint:

I can understand that. Your TR has made me realize how truly blessed I am. Yep. Having to pay $754,345,234 for a flight... one way... is a bit much.

What makes it worse, is not having a return trip planned. :scared1:

Gee... Thanks for reminding me....

:sad1:

And it's worse if you don't stay long enough to get homesick.

I'm having a wicked case of deja vu right now.

Hey! I resemble that remark. Sort of. In a Walt's original park kind if way.

I know.

I shall say no more for fear of losing a reader.

:snooty:

OK. Enough. Wallow.

Are you done yet?

Actually, no. Hang on a sec...

Okay. Done.

I've actually been wayyyyyy too busy to do any wallowing.

I'm not sure that there is any time of day that I worry about that. :rolleyes1

Well it's about time!

Ha! No it isn't!

Okay. I wasn't going to lug those suitcases on those stairs... again!

Only if you're coming back from someplace like Jellyrolls.

Good point.

But when you're leaving, it just majorly sucks.

I would too, but then again Disney CMs go through acting lessons so that they can do and say things to make the guests feel better.

I do know that.
But... remember the scene in Pretty Woman when Richard Gere
snaps the case shut on Julia's hand and she burst out laughing?
I immediately said "I don't think that was scripted.
I think he just did it and that's her genuine laugh."
Years later, I find out I'm right.

I think I'm right about this too. Her reaction was way to quick.
Of course it's possible she's just a really good actress,
but I think I surprised her.

I actually like the four hour time frame even for domestic flights. Fran moves slower than the average bear and security takes an extra long time because she has all those replacement parts and can't just walk through the metal detectors. Plus this last trip she tried an "experiment" which was loads of fun!

Interesting. Hadn't thought about it from that perspective.

I like this! In theory, not practice.

Yeah, who wants to be moot???

I think we hit this wait time in our first two days of the trip!

Should've invested in the VIP bus package.

I didn't scroll! :snooty:

So you're the one!

OK. I'm totally lost. I would need to an aerial view from a map. I studied that map of MCO in preparation for my last trip so I knew where to find dinner and the hotel, but I missed all this.

Consider yourself lucky!

Good job Dad!

Thanks! It weren't easy.

Fun times!

Yup. On the way down, you're blabbing a mile a minute with excitement.
On the way back.... you sit and sulk.

See I always avert my eyes as the passengers board, I'm afraid that they'll look at me like, "you spoiled b****!

I'd love that! I'd be like "Yesss! Got one!"

I don't doubt it, word of your antics probably preceded your approach by now!

This is a distinct possibility.
On the plus side though, it certainly helped to cut corners for the inevitable strip search.

I have never been there, but every TR from a Canadian that I've read involves stopping at a Tim Horton's in the airport.

:lmao: I don't doubt this!

Sorry!

Okey dokey! Well I started this reply on my phone, but was able to get back to the computer to finish.

Won't be long! :)

See ya in Maui!!

And.....thank you for the points for saying you're a good dad :cloud9:
I can feel the love!

Re: BOG. I take it you didn't pre-order, correct?
At least (I've pre-ordered the two times I've been) I've never
been stuck in a queue there.
I too found the ballroom noisy.
When we ate in the Rose room it was noticeably quieter there.

I had more fun watching the little girl ahead of me, especially when Tink appeared. Just before you get on the ride you get sprinkled with pixie dust. I was glad we took the time to see it.

Did you hold your hand out to let a shadow butterfly land on your hand's shadow?
I got a kick out of that.
And I really enjoyed watching the kids being entranced and enthralled at all the goings on.

If you go to any athletic store, they will carry the socks. There are two kinds, one that wicks moisture away and then the wicking double-ply ones I prefer. It is two layers so it reduces friction somehow and fits snugger on my feet than my regular socks do.

Thanks for the heads up.
I might go take a look for those.

When my son was running track, he had to get new shoes every three months because the cushioning in them breaks down.

Wow. Three months and done.
That amazes me.

Because I have bad feet, but don't run track, I figure every 6 months is sufficient.

Okay, that makes total sense.

This was the first time I switched back and forth daily between two pairs of shoes, and it made a world of difference.

Really! Maybe I'll have to try that with Kay if/when.

at the store, I just walked on the treadmill, and they can look at your gait and decide which athletic shoes work best for you.

Huh. Interesting.
We have at least one place that I can think of that's devoted to runners/walkers.
(That's where I buy Body Glide)
They might have something like that there.
I'll have to go see.

We are in Loudoun County, Virginia.

Ha! I was right!

Isn't that crazy?
And it's not like you're that far away. You're not in Iceland or something.

Now that I have monopolized the conversation, back to you :goodvibes

Back to me????? I got nothin'!

Why in the heck would I be mad at you? What could you have done? You just write great TR's! You know I love you!

 Okay!
You just never know with text vs aural communication.
I could type something and think "Oh, Carrie is going to love this!!!"
And you read it and think "Oh, how could he! I thought we were friends!"

You just never know.
At least the smilies help a little.

"I hate you!" is cute, but
"I hate you!" ain't so cute.

I've been reading, but haven't said anything in a while.

I hope I'll get to say hi to her in WDW!

Ask her if she got my parcel. I sent it, but wasn't 100% on the address.

I'm sure you missed me! I've read along, but usually way late to the party, so I didn't get to chime in. Sounds like you enjoyed the trip despite the late starts, rain and stairs! Congrats on another successful VIP transportation package. I really need to figure out where to purchase that one! ;)

Only just read the 1st chapter and I've laughed, cried, and laughed again! How do you do that magic you do?! *hugs across time and space*

Aunt Laura74 says that she didn't get your parcel, and she has something for you, (I think you'll like it, I won't ruin the surprise) but she hasn't sent it yet.
