Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

:scratchin Yeah, I gotta think about that one.

::yes:: Yep. Pretty sure they frown on it.

Darn. Guess that rules that out.

That must be their line. Everyone always says the peoplemover has no wait. I always forget to ride it. At least recently.

Yeah.
Make us think we won something when SM is down... again...

Walt's name/initials really should be on most things!

Yes! Exactly!

Nice shoe shot. Is this the obligatory shot?

Yes it is.
Pretty sure if the mods see that you've ridden it and don't include that shot,
you could get banned from the DIS.

Or you could have watched the 3:00 parade....

I don't know. It's really hard to see from inside COP.

This is so ironic.

 You're not the first to mention that!

:lmao:

In that heat, I'm sure that she sucked it down in moments!

This is a possibility.
She hasn't shown up on the DIS for a while, so I can't ask her.

That's about how I feel about it.

So do a lot of people apparently.

You made me go back and look at my shots (which I thought were pretty decent), but looking back they aren't. I can't wait to try out my lens there next month

Which lens?

Hey I can't wait to leave for Disneyland TODAY and try it out on a couple dark rides!

I should take a selfie and post it.
Caption would read "Jealousy".

Yay for you! :yay:

Yeah!

See now if Tigger, Eeyore, or any other character at that buffet were coming my way, I would put down whatever I was eating. And I'm one of those people whom you do NOT want to get between me and my food.

So if we dine together, if a character comes up while I'm eating,
I'll just keep eating with one hand and point at you with the other.

Does that apply to members of your harem?

Nope. I'm always available for harem members.

I'm sure your wife like this one better.

Nah. She knows about my obsession and just rolls her eyes.

I bet you beat my scores!

I don't know.
Did you just not bother aiming and not shoot?

I'm going to have to look for that one too!

I'm really surprised that no one knows this.
I thought I was the only one and everyone would be saying "Well of course, ponzi!"

Wow! That's just way too long!

Yes. It was.
Wayyyyy too long.

I think I'm going to have to order that Fudge Mudslide when I go there next month! It sounds awesome!

They both were. (We took a little taste of each other's)
But I'll stick with the No Way Jose again, I think.

Man it was good!

That is totally weird. I think he was trying to get you to hand over the $20.

You're not the first person to say that.
I wonder if I'm just too trusting?

Maybe I'll try it again with plenty of ones and a twenty, just to see.

I'm going to say 10:15

Test Track

Well it's either the Margarita in Mexico or the Gray Goose Slushie. Let's go with the Gray Goose Slushie.

No, she gets up too late.

I'm going to go with the crowds and say Rose and Crown.

Noted.

Mostly I play Alto Sax, but I have dabbled on others including flute, other saxes, trumpet, piano. But not the clarinet like it seems so many who were reading your last TR do. On an audition for Jazz Band in College, the instructor told me that I could use it as a weapon. I have been reluctant to play it since. :rotfl2:

Kay plays the alto sax too in Jazz band.
But her fave is the clarinet.

I wanted to comment on so much more like how it's a miracle you survived your childhood with all those swimming accidents and how impressed I am that you did the scuba experience.

Thanks! I really do have to concentrate on not thinking of... "things" when I go though.
And it doesn't take too much to unnerve me.

How you overcame your fear is pretty admirable.

 Thanks!

I had a whole lot more compliments that I wanted to lay on thick, but I'm lucky to have found the time to comment this much on your TR! See ya later!

I'm goin' to Disneyland!

Have fun!

Oh, no! Hang in there! You can do it!!!

Oh... You mean you've reached the end of the TR...
Well, actually, there's still more to come... Hope you're not too disappointed.

And.... :welcome: to the TR!

You came here for tips?!?!?
I'm so, so sorry!

Seriously though, I will share with you my number ONE tip for parents taking their kid(s) to Disney.

Ready?
Here it is.

REMEMBER why you're going.

You're going for the kids, right? That's what you've been telling people.
"We're taking the kids to Disney World."

So remember that.
They want to skip BTMRR and ride Dumbo instead? Fine.
They're worried that they'll be scared of HM? Fine.
Relax. Go with the flow a little.

Remember this: If they come back happy, you'll be happy.
And maybe they'll want to go back with you some day.

Make good memories with them, not bad ones.

Am I pontificating? I am. Sorry.
But it's important.

You know that family?
Oh, you know the one.
You hear them all the time. "Do you have any idea how much I paid for this! Stop crying!"

Don't be that family.

Hahaha. It does seem as if you both survived....

DS is finally acting excited about the trip, somewhat. He's been sulking because we will miss his girlfriend's birthday (they've been together 3 months. Lol). The way I figure, now he has a good place to shop for a gift!

Which lens?

I got a SIGMA 1.4 35mm and I have a Canon rebel. I rented a 50mm and it was too limiting. I hope that I'm OK with the 35. As it was fairly pricey.

I should take a selfie and post it.
Caption would read "Jealousy".

Well that whole thing blew up. We got there and every lot was already full. We had no IDea it would be so popular. We turned around and went home. Will go back Sunday and see F!

Nope. I'm always available for harem members

Cool! If we're ever on schedule together I'll make sure our FPs sync!

Kay plays the alto sax too in Jazz band.
But her fave is the clarinet.

Is She Lead or 2nd alto?

Have fun!

Well I'll have to save it for later. .we gave up since it was so friggin packed. We went home instead of getting frustrated.

 Some people ride it all the time and have never seen it.

Oh... and they all hate you now.

Kidding, of course!

(maybe)

That's ok, haters gonna hate :duck::teeth: I consider myself pretty darn lucky!

I'm like the best school teacher ever, right?

Yes!

Don't worry, he'll bounce back.

:joker::laughing:

Feeble"? So... I shouldn't award you some points?

Ok, let me rephrase that.... That was my exceptional attempt at earning extra pints:rolleyes1 award away my friend

Hi Pkondz

I’ve just caught up to date with your latest posts and update. That ice cream sure looked the way to round off a hot humid day in a theme park. I know the go-cars take up a lot of room in the park why don’t they just update it with similar cars that they have got in test track and cars land, but saying that it still gets long queues to ride it mostly dads and their kids with the dads pretending to be really enjoying the drive but inwardly saying how long am I going to be stuck on this slow ride to nowhere. What we also need is a designated space mountain day in the light just think of the interest they could generate the coaster fraternity.

I will go for 09:45 hrs wake up time. You defiantly use your park hopper and end up back in Hollywood studios as there in not much for a teen to do in epcot once you have been on the the three rides that are worth bothering about in epcot especially if you can’t sample the alcohol because you are under age to drink responsibly in around the world showcase. I am going to go with Mitsukoshi Tokyo dining restaurant in Japan for your ADR. The drink now that is a hard one to guess and because you eat in japan I will go with Kirin beer as your drink. The ride that cost yourselves time has got to be test track as it is still breaking down all the time even though it was recently re-furbished. Enjoyed your update.

I haven't been able to spend as much time on the dear DIS as I usually do! Glad to see that it looks like I made it in time for guesses for this update!

For 7DMT I have to agree. It is a fun little coaster. And we have small boys, so it's a great ride to get them on the coaster bandwagon. However, without them I don't think it would be much of a must do for us either. Fun, but not the favorite coaster!

I have actually only ever had the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream! We shared it between 4 adults and while it was delicious, it gets a little too soupy too fast. Which just ends up being gross. I am dying to try some of the other ice cream treats there!

I commend you for giving up your seat. The only time that has ever happened to me was when I was 'wearing' my baby on my chest!

WOW! Look at those points. Bring me right up to the middle of the pack. You know, where I have been my whole life. Seems about right. (And frankly, I don't mind one bit!)

Alright, my guesses:

Kay won't get up until 10:45am.
The ride that will cost you time is Test Track. Just because I feel like Test Track, though fun, is always a huge time problem.
The drink. I have no idea. But I am going to go with a Grey Goose Slushie because it's my favorite drink in Epcot!
I think you will use your hoppers!
And dinner ADR, hmm. This really could be anywhere. I am going to go with a shot in the dark here. Mainly because I haven't been there in a LONG time and really think my kids would love it- Whispering Canyon Cafe at the Wilderness Lodge!

(Did I get them all?)

I think you should try it next time and see what happens, just so we all know for sure.

Good idea! I'll call you from prison and let you know how it went!

Cool picture! I think I've only seen it once with the lights on a long time ago. Too bad they don't let you ride it like that. Might be even scarier because you can see what you're about to crash into.

A few folks have mentioned that.
"What? Me? Go on that rickety thing???"

Haa haa! That's the main reason most people go into it.

Or to nap. That's popular too.

We were at the Halloween party this year waiting for a picture with Lotso (on my must do list). The in-laws said they were going to ride COP while we waited for our picture. I thought they were wasting precious party time doing something they could do with a short wait any day. They do things like that all the time. They waited in a really long line, that turned out to be for candy! LMAO. The ride was closed. Funniest thing that happened all night.

 They were duly embarrassed I presume?

I can't even see the picture! It's a little box. I'll assume that her hand really was on your butt. Where else would it be?

Try re-loading the page. That happens sometimes.

I feel the same way. It was cute the first few times but it's too tame. Even my son prefers BTM and Splash. I like the video that you get though. I would still ride it at least once per trip.

::yes:: Yup. I won't skip it. But once would be fine, too.

Oh no!! Maybe she can't see 3D anymore. Don't worry, she didn't outgrow it!

So you tell me to not worry that she didn't outgrow it,
but completely gloss over her mysterious eye affliction???

YAY!!!! Yay for you for guessing correctly.

I'm amazing!

OMG!!!! You went to a character buffet FOR THE FOOD!!!!!!!

 We did!

The whole point of suffering through those meals is to get a cute picture with the characters. That's the best part. Although the pictures never turn out that well because of bad lighting and there's always some random people in the shot behind you. I forgive you for not getting any pictures.

See? How are you going to get classic hand to the DD's face shots there???

I can't judge. I ate at T-Rex. Worst Disney meal EVER. Possibly worst meal of any kind anywhere. Any time we have bad food now we comment that it's bad, but not "T-Rex bad".

I'll have to remember that!
But to be honest, I had no plans to go to T-Rex. Haven't heard wonderful things.

NO!!! calories really don't count when you're on vacation. It's a proven fact.

Proven by scientists who really know about stuff like that.

I got it right!!! I guessed that you got the fast pass because Kay wanted it, but it was actually you!! HAAAA

Of course it was me! I'm offended that you'd think otherwise!!!

Awesome picture!!! I guessed that you would take a scandalous picture with Ariel. Was she as drunk in person as she was on her ride?

Well, I would never tattle on a lady.

But there was something fishy about her breath.

What if you just got another fast pass? You could have just gotten back in line repeatedly. I wonder how many pictures you would have to take before they cut you off? Or have you escorted out of the park? Project for your next trip.

Hmmmm.... I like where this is going.
Multiple visits to my Princess, huh?

I'm definitely liking this.

I'm surprised Kay didn't want anything else from that store. It has so many awesome things. I bought the picture with the hitchhiking ghosts.

I think neither one of us are big into souvenirs that much.
But we did enjoy looking around.

YAY I followed the crowd and got the right answer!!! I thought it was a weird choice since it would have made more sense to go there after your Epcot day.

It would be weird... if we could've gotten for then.
But we only had one open slot. That day at that time.

Did you take an "after" picture of the ice cream?

No. I didn't even think of that.
I was too busy groaning from being so full!

Wait, you know you're giving people points for calling you a bad planner right? Since the ride was closed for months you would have known that so you wouldn't have tried to ride it, unless you were a bad planner. :rolleyes1

Yeah... I know. But I didn't know if they knew that I knew that they should have known.
Ya know?

You're welcome!

Mike! You're alive!!!

Shhhh. You don't have to shout it out to the world. I might owe some people some money.

I was just going to ask about the job hunt.
Any of them looking good?
(As in they might hire you?)

One of them sounds promising. 2 of them not so much. There is one key component in these jobs that I never learned from my previous job. Doesn't sound like they would be willing to teach me either.

The one that sounds promising is probably my best shot. I am pretty close friends with the people I listed as references. They called me the other day and told me that the agency I interviewed with called them to check on my references. Hopefully this means I'm on the short list and get the job. If not, I guess it's back to square one. I have several more applications out there. Something will come up eventually. If not, I'll go back to my old routes and see if I can find something in retail again. Lady H and I discussed this. If I can't get a government job by the end of the year, then I'll go this route.

I'm still trying to figure out why this was Plan B....

Hmmmm.... Good point.
Shoulda started with that.

Been there, done that. Makes for a cool souvie photo!

::yes::

Having grown up teething on DLR, it'll always be the PeopleMover to me.

Yep. The WEDway Peoplemover, of course.

That makes me smile.

:)

Coincidentally, we cannot see YOUR hand either.

True. But I, of course, was a perfect gentleman.
No sense in getting punched immediately after meeting.

That usually doesn't happen until I open my mouth.

Yay, indeed!

I assume you'll have to be present for me to redeem the one I just pulled, right? ;)

If I'm there, than I am the present.

Pretty sure Kay was thinking SHE was your Princess.

She's gotta stand in line, just like everyone else.

Was that BEFORE she saw your wedding ring? :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Saw? What's this "saw" you speak of.
Do you not notice which hand I'm shoving Kay away with?
The one that just happens to be out of her line of sight?

Actually, when I posted the photo, I assumed someone would point that out.
So far... no one else has.

That was right about the time you started feeling like a Class A Doofus...

Oh, yes. Head of the class in fact.

You're a better human than I am.

I highly doubt that.

Highly.

You chose correctly. I approve.

It was soooo good!

So you're suspicious of him too?

10:05

Test Track

Grey Goose Slush

No.

Trying Teppan again.

Noted.

I'll need it! My score tanked last round. So I"m hoping that a few suck-up points may be awarded because of your kind and big heart. That, and because it can be part of my DIS "I-just-paid-off-my-resort" Celebration Package.

 Also noted!

Hi Kathy! Miss you too!
I've been so busy that I've fallen behind everywhere!
Still catching up!

ok whew I was confused there also but I confuse so easily. lol and sure I mean we say hi to tink and peter pan and all the other Disney folks so why not to Ponzi lol we can't leave out the dis board legend lol

Legend?

Yup. I like that.

OH, and I have to change my bus guess to:

33 minutes

Noted.

Hahaha. It does seem as if you both survived....

Well, she almost didn't.... but that's for a later update.

DS is finally acting excited about the trip, somewhat. He's been sulking because we will miss his girlfriend's birthday (they've been together 3 months. Lol).

 I completely get that! DD18 is at the same point... I think.
Not sure if they broke up and got back together... or not.

It's been an interesting week....

The way I figure, now he has a good place to shop for a gift!

See? Silver lining.

I got a SIGMA 1.4 35mm and I have a Canon rebel. I rented a 50mm and it was too limiting. I hope that I'm OK with the 35. As it was fairly pricey.

Nice. Was the 50mm a 1.4 as well? That's what I got.
Not overly wide, that's for sure.

Well that whole thing blew up. We got there and every lot was already full. We had no IDea it would be so popular. We turned around and went home. Will go back Sunday and see F!

This boggles my mind.
"I went to Disney and it looked busy so I went home."

Just. Mind... blown.

Cool! If we're ever on schedule together I'll make sure our FPs sync!

::yes::

Is She Lead or 2nd alto?

I know she's 1st Clarinet in band, but I'm not positive about Jazz band this year.
Pretty sure if the same guy (two years older) is still there from last year, he'd be lead.

Well I'll have to save it for later. .we gave up since it was so friggin packed. We went home instead of getting frustrated.

Mind still blown.

Ain't THAT the truth!! ::yes::

Oh, you're finding that out, are you?

That's ok, haters gonna hate :duck::teeth:

I consider myself pretty darn lucky!

Agreed!

Good answer. ::yes::

Ok, let me rephrase that.... That was my exceptional attempt at earning extra pints:rolleyes1 award away my friend

Hi Pkondz

Hey Mac!

That ice cream sure looked the way to round off a hot humid day in a theme park.

Oh, man. Was it ever good.
So do not regret going!

So what you're saying is...
"Save the Dads!"

We could maybe have a fundraising event.

What we also need is a designated space mountain day in the light just think of the interest they could generate the coaster fraternity.

That's a pretty darned good idea!

Enjoyed your update.

Thanks, Mac! :)

I haven't been able to spend as much time on the dear DIS as I usually do! Glad to see that it looks like I made it in time for guesses for this update!

You're right on time!
Actually, you have plenty of time as I have yet to even start the next update.

Catching up is taking all my time!

For 7DMT I have to agree. It is a fun little coaster. And we have small boys, so it's a great ride to get them on the coaster bandwagon. However, without them I don't think it would be much of a must do for us either. Fun, but not the favorite coaster!

Yep. I'll ride it. But once is probably good enough.
Some rides I won't even bother.

I have actually only ever had the Kitchen Sink at Beaches and Cream! We shared it between 4 adults and while it was delicious, it gets a little too soupy too fast. Which just ends up being gross. I am dying to try some of the other ice cream treats there!

Never thought of that.
Makes sense that all that ice cream is going to melt into one big morass.

I commend you for giving up your seat. The only time that has ever happened to me was when I was 'wearing' my baby on my chest!

It's no big deal. Someone just needed it more than me.
Nowadays, when my back hurts, I don't give up my seat to the younger set like I used to.

WOW! Look at those points. Bring me right up to the middle of the pack. You know, where I have been my whole life. Seems about right. (And frankly, I don't mind one bit!)

So.... you don't want to be at the head of the pack?
Should I start deducting if your guesses are too good?

Alright, my guesses:

Kay won't get up until 10:45am.
The ride that will cost you time is Test Track. Just because I feel like Test Track, though fun, is always a huge time problem.
The drink. I have no idea. But I am going to go with a Grey Goose Slushie because it's my favorite drink in Epcot!

Noted.

(Did I get them all?)

Wellllll..... Yes, but...
The ADR where we ate is in Epcot.
Feel free to change your guess. No penalty for changing.

Shhhh. You don't have to shout it out to the world. I might owe some people some money.

Sorry. Hi Mike!

One of them sounds promising. 2 of them not so much. There is one key component in these jobs that I never learned from my previous job. Doesn't sound like they would be willing to teach me either.

Really? Is this something that a lot of potential employees would know?

The one that sounds promising is probably my best shot. I am pretty close friends with the people I listed as references. They called me the other day and told me that the agency I interviewed with called them to check on my references. Hopefully this means I'm on the short list and get the job.

That does sound promising, but I'm sure you don't want to get your hopes up until it's a lock.
When will you know? One way or another.

If not, I guess it's back to square one. I have several more applications out there. Something will come up eventually. If not, I'll go back to my old routes and see if I can find something in retail again. Lady H and I discussed this. If I can't get a government job by the end of the year, then I'll go this route.

Well, good luck with that one promising one!
Hope it works out the way you hope!

Nice. Was the 50mm a 1.4 as well? That's what I got.
Not overly wide, that's for sure.

Yes the 50mm was a 1.4. I have a 18-250 for my normal lens so I'm used to a lot of zoom, and flexibility, but it only goes to 3.5 for the f stop, so not very good dark ride photos.

This boggles my mind.
"I went to Disney and it looked busy so I went home."

Just. Mind... blown.

Well it's funny being a So Cal AP holder. Andy had a similar comment on my other thread when I mentioned that "we had a hankering for a corn dog, so we went to Disneyland." It took a while for me to get used to as well. I spent about 15 years in So Cal where Disneyland meant you go for one day and do EVERYTHING you can possibly fit in and then you don't go again for a year or more.

Then I got with Fran and got an annual pass. I learned about the whole go out to the park, have lunch, do a ride and go home. Mostly that was because we took her mother and she couldn't deal with more than that. But it introduced me to the "we can go out there any time" sort of mentality. Really we only live half an hour away, and since we don't have 9-5 40 hour a week jobs, we can go when we want.

The last time the two of us went out to the parks was Labor day and it was crazy busy, but nothing like yesterday. All the lots were already full and it was busy enough on Labor day that we didn't want to deal with that craziness. It doesn't hurt that now we are going out Sunday, Monday, Thursday and next Sunday (for the band playing there) as well. Plus we're going to be back there on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend so it's really a different concept than folks who live outside the area and come to visit.

I know she's 1st Clarinet in band, but I'm not positive about Jazz band this year.
Pretty sure if the same guy (two years older) is still there from last year, he'd be lead.

Yeah, I understand that whole seniority thing, hopefully soon she'll get to be lead. I got to be lead my last year in college and it was a lot of fun. If we ever find another drummer and rhythm section we'll get our swing band going again and I'll get to play lead in our community band's swing band.

Mind still blown.

Yeah, see above for So Cal AP holder mentality. It's a whole different ballgame, and kind of fun!

Yup. Nothing like a fast lens.
But... man those rides don't make it easy to take a decent picture! Even with the fast lens.

I get it.
It's hard to wrap my head around it... but I get it.

I suppose in a way it's really no different than how I treat the mall.
I too don't have a Mon-Fri/9-5 job, so I tend to go during the day, during the week.
But when I do go on a weekend... nope!

It doesn't hurt that now we are going out Sunday, Monday, Thursday and next Sunday (for the band playing there) as well. Plus we're going to be back there on the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend so it's really a different concept than folks who live outside the area and come to visit.

:faint:

Yeah, I understand that whole seniority thing, hopefully soon she'll get to be lead. I got to be lead my last year in college and it was a lot of fun. If we ever find another drummer and rhythm section we'll get our swing band going again and I'll get to play lead in our community band's swing band.

Oh, it's not just seniority. He's a much more accomplished player.
You can tell he's been playing for a lot longer.
But who knows? Maybe next year... or maybe not at all.
I don't know, I haven't seen her Jazz band yet this year so I have no idea.

Finally got over my shame at such poor guesses last round.

Huh! I'm surprised you have the nerve to show your face around here!

:lmao: Okay! Okay! I'm kidding!

You can't get 'em right all the time.

Well, actually, not really my fault that there are almost a kajillion fun choices, and laws of probability say I can't be right at all times,

This is true...

except when speaking with DH.

...but this is more true.

Yay! (It's almost as if I came up with this response spontaneously...)

 Great minds?

Pretty cool. 10 years ago in DL we were on Space when it broke. We were evacuated nicely through the ride with lights on. Definitely never raising any arms while on this ride, even though the Imagineers certainly calculated this into the design...

Interesting.
I feel the same way about the design....
but did they take into account NBA players and the like???

Awwww, Kay looks like my daughter in these photos. All black clothing, grey magic band. The good ol' days.

Did she grow out of it? Ever? Hello?

I think the ride is rigged. I mean, what would they do if someone actually saved the Galaxy? Would they have to permanently shut down the ride?

Well, it does happen from time to time.
More often when Katie and Jamie are in the park...

Ok, this is on my To Do list for solo time. But question for anyone - do you need an ADR for a simple ice cream cone? Not that I wouldn't like to sample these lovely concoctions, but even my eyes say Too Much!

They do have a walk-up/take-out counter.
I have no idea what you can get from there,
but I would think a cone wouldn't be a problem.

Epcot! Yay! (yup, an extra Yay!)

Kay wakes up at 10:20, and possibly not by choice...

Ride: Test Track

Drink: Grey Goose slush

Park Hoppers: Yes, because why not?

Dinner ADR: Via Napoli

Noted.
