Canadian Buffoon's Disney With a Teen Vacation - 08/13 - The Wrap

wow you sound super busy and you have covered your ..bases so we don't hound you.... too much that is

You better not! I worked my tucus off to get that update out!

oh and Remembrance day is what you folks have to remember the end of WWI )don't forget to wear your red poppy.

Well, the date is set to coincide with the end of WWI,
but it's to remember those who've fallen and served in every war.

And my poppy is on my jacket.

we have veteran's day here. so on a side note folks thank a vet!

::yes::

oh man no points on that last round :( I need pick up my game a bit here.

Go get 'em Betsey!

so I figure Kay is pretty tuckered out so she gets up at 10 am ish (figure that should cover me for around a 15 minute window either way lol)

 Noted.

thinking you went to tappan edo (is it still called that? just don't touch the hot cooking surface lol *do I get points for remembering that one of our all time favorite dissers did that?)

YES!!

thinking that test track cost you time even with a fast pass and you finally got that grey goose slushie.
and thing you do use the park hoppers today

Noted.

really like that pic of space. I have never seen it with the lights on on either coast and that is saying something since I have been riding the one out here since it opened in 77 (looking forward to seeing what they are going to do for the starwars overlay) so that was one great shot.

:goodvibes: Thanks!

those ariel pics are hysterical

 They were fun to do.
There were people waiting their turn and they were cracking up.

so since this update is a couple of days early will we still be getting a chapter on wed?

Let's see... how many points should I deduct for that?

Hmmm....

(just kidding I know it takes you tons of time to get these chapters just right for our reading pleasure)

Okay. I won't deduct.

tomorrow night we are heading to DL. taking scarlett to see the fireworks and ride IASW holiday (that is what happens when you have grandkids you ride iasw.

Well, I'm able to now. Just shove in the earbuds.
Of course if a grandkid pulls on my sleeve to tell me something,
I'll just smile and nod.

"Grandpaw! I'm on fire!"
::yes:: <shouts> That's nice!

out here they put a holiday overlay on it and really put a great light show on the front. we even have scarlett say hi ponzie when we see the rcmp that represents Canada lol

I've heard of the overlay.
You don't really have her say hi to me do you???

Hey Ponzi,

Hey Liesa!

(Had a compulsion to hijack this thread for a minute, and since you're here...)

Hijack away... and yes I am.

a friend just posted he went to that Casa Loma you did. Got nearly identical pix you did.

Cool! Did he enjoy it as much as I did?
And my pictures were better, right?
Right?

Right?

Right??

I think all of us have been stinky after a long day in the parks at one time or another. That's what the pools are for, no?

With all the sweat and sunscreen,
it's really a wonder that people aren't surrounded
by their own individual oil slick.

Just got a phone call for a day shift tomorrow,
so I'm heading off to bed now.
Gotta be up in 5 hours.
Night Liesa.

Cool! Did he enjoy it as much as I did?
And my pictures were better, right?
Right?

Right?

Right??

But of COURSE! Except he has some pretty cool lenses that kinda make me drool. I think I may need a wide angle and a fish eye before the trip....

And yes, he loved it. He made special mention of the secret passage.

With all the sweat and sunscreen,
it's really a wonder that people aren't surrounded
by their own individual oil slick.

They wash it all off in the pools at night. Maybe Disney should do a new nightime show series called, "Light the pools on fire".

Just got a phone call for a day shift tomorrow,
so I'm heading off to bed now.
Gotta be up in 5 hours.
Night Liesa.

And I'm going to regret staying up WAY too late sitting in lecture tomorrow. Should have followed your suit. Good night.

Which is a good thing, since plan B involved me setting fire to something
and sending out smoke signals.

I suspect... could be wrong... but I suspect Disney frowns on
guests setting fire to their property.
Sometimes I think Disney is a little too fussy about stuff like that.
But, it would be a great way to get a backstage tour. :rolleyes1

The good news? There was no wait whatsoever!
Yay!

Pssst - I said Yay!

The bad news? There was no wait because the ride was down.
D'oh!

He didn't really know, but he did have an excellent suggestion.

"If you ride the PeopleMover." He said.
"You can see Space Mountain with the lights on."

I looked at Kay, she looked at me... "Let's go!" We said in unison.
What??? Did you really need him to make that suggestion? Because I'd be like, Space is closed, lets ride TT... sorry, Wedway!

And then the piece de resistance.
(And yes, I'm sure you've seen photos like this before...
but it was still cool to see it in person.)
It would definitely be cool to see in person.

While we were discovering how life's changed over the last century,
I received another email.
"Entering MK now, stopping at Starbucks!"
I clicked off a quick reply "On COP right now. Christmas scene."
Discovering how life's changed over the last century... while sending e-mails. :rotfl2:

Okay. She didn't. But it would explain the smiles...
Not hers... :rolleyes1

I've followed Courtney for a little while now
(Wow! Does that ever sound stalkerish!)
::yes::

And you want to know the weird thing?
It's only now as I type this that it suddenly occurs to me.
She said she was stopping at Starbucks...
Where's her drink?
That's how hot it was. She chugged it.

Any time we were in Frontierland or near Splash,
Kay and I would look for her, just to say "Hi", but we never saw her again.
That's too bad. I'm glad you at least had a chance to meet her!

Well, the show must go on,
or in this case, the assault on MK.
And lo and behold... Space Mountain was open!
Yay!
With a one hour wait!
Boo!
Already??? Crap!

No, Kay wanted a yard stick full of coloured sugar.
You know why?
Because it's a yard stick full of sugar.
What's better than a little bit of sugar?

A whole lot of sugar! :thumbsup2

What can I say about 7DMT.
It's a coaster... so that's a good thing.
But sometimes it's more like a dark ride,
reminiscent of the old Snow White's Scary Adventure.
And that's okay... but I'd prefer full coaster.
And as a coaster... well, it's pretty tame.
Don't get me wrong.
I rode it. Had fun.
But it's not a priority.
BTMRR. That's a priority!
I think this is a pretty fair assessment.

Now I'm not big into characters (gasp!)
and neither is Kay (double gasp!)
So when a handler came over and asked if we wanted to meet Tigger...
We said no. (triple gasp!)

Okay, take a moment to catch your breath.
Ok, I'm kind of right there with you.

I know... we do a lot of characters.

But I have a 5 and a 3 year old. They love them.

Me? Well, we did a few character meals in 2008, pre-kids. My attitude was closer to yours

I will admit, that if a character interacts with me,
I won't run from them.
I'll even play along.
But I'm trying to eat here, okay?
Yeah, something like this.

So I had to "explain" it to her a little more clearly.
I gently showed her the error of her ways
and Ariel and I were able to gaze deeply into each other’s eyes.

DSC09609_zpsjsvuekxz.jpg
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao::rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

That is fantastic! I'm glad that you got a chance to go visit Ariel!

Check the standby time for HM... 90 minutes.
Ha! Not gonna happen!

So what to do?
HM of course!
So we zipped over and rode, with no wait at all.
Um... what? So was the line marked at 90 minutes, but a lot shorter? Or did you grab another FP+?

She pointed to the roof where they had some strobes occasionally flashing.
I had a good laugh at her expense.
I mean Disney does a great job with special effects,
and even I thought it was pretty realistic...
But since we were inside, well... she sure is gullible!

We got in our log and got ready to sail off.
I looked up again at the roof and "lightning".

It was right about then, that I noticed, for the first time,
that the loading area is open to the sky.

Yep. That was real lightning.
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: U iz smrt.

Once we boarded, the driver waited another few seconds for
another family to board... then promptly stalled the engine.
He couldn't figure out how to start it up again,
so another driver (or supervisor... dunno) came and started it.
Oh geeze.... just get up and let me drive!

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure it was #1 on the list.
Um... it's pretty high on mine too.

And finally I made it!
With Kay! My ice cream eating comrade in arms!
(Ruby's not a fan, Elle doesn't ask for it very often)
What is wrong with them?????

So we came knowing we were going to order the Kitchen Sink.
And now that we were here!!!!
We just weren't feeling it.
WHAT???? Get that kitchen sink.

I wonder if one person who goes in hungry could take one out? :scratchin

Kay ordered the Fudge Mudslide while I had the No Way Jose.
Which (after the Sink) was #1 on my list.
No Way Jose is definitely what I want to try there too!

It only took a few minutes to get from Beach Club to Pop.
The total cab fare was $9.00. Not bad at all.
This could be some useful information for future use...

I handed the driver a twenty and told him to give me $10 back.

He didn't have any change.
Is it just me? Or is that weird? For a cab driver?
I did happen to have a five and four singles on me, though.
But that was it.
I apologized for not being able to leave a tip, but what can you do?
I wonder if he was just gambling on the fact that that was all you had and you'd just let him keep it? Looks like it bit him in the butt.

What time does Kay wake up?
Hint: It ain't early.
9:40

What ride do we go on that costs us time
because we FP'd it?
Spaceship Earth

What drink has been on my list for ages...
And I finally drink (for the first time.)
Hmmm... I know there are a couple you've mentioned in EPCOT, but I guess I'll go with that Margarita in Mexico.

We have park hoppers.
Do we use them today?
Um... maybe-ish. No.

And finally... lots of choices here.
Where's our Dinner ADR for?
Teppan Edo

But of COURSE! Except he has some pretty cool lenses that kinda make me drool. I think I may need a wide angle and a fish eye before the trip....

Yeah, I was really missing my wide in Toronto.
So glad I brought it to WDW.

And then had little time to use it... and as you'll see,
the heat got to me enough that the photo taking suffered as the trip wore on and wore me down.

While I love the extreme range of the fish eye, I'm not a fan of the distortion.

And yes, he loved it. He made special mention of the secret passage.

Of course! Who doesn't want a secret passage?

They wash it all off in the pools at night. Maybe Disney should do a new nightime show series called, "Light the pools on fire".

Please no. Then they'd jack the room rates up even more.
"Disney is pleased to announce our newest night time spectacular!
Light the pools on fire! A nightly resort extravaganza!

And I'm going to regret staying up WAY too late sitting in lecture tomorrow. Should have followed your suit. Good night.

I'm regretting it right now.
Just took my morning break and almost didn't make it back!

Well... I see the confusion now.

I was reading Andy's comments and... what the what?

Okay...

I wrote that last update and posted it around 2am.
Not an excuse... but I'm guessing that's part of the problem.

I wrote that we checked the wait time for HM and it was 90 minutes

Yeah.... uh.... so I'm a dolt.

I've amended the update.

Sorry for the confusion!

But...
Wouldn't it be nice if 90 minute wait times were really zero minutes?

But, it would be a great way to get a backstage tour. :rolleyes1

Try it! Let me know how it goes!

Yay!

Pssst - I said Yay!

Hmmm.... At the wrong spot, though.

Hmmm.............

What??? Did you really need him to make that suggestion? Because I'd be like, Space is closed, lets ride TT... sorry, Wedway!

Yeah, he had to make the suggestion.
When I found out it was closed, it didn't immediately click that the lights would be on.
(Obviously for me, the lights were on but no one was home.)

It would definitely be cool to see in person.

'twas!

Discovering how life's changed over the last century... while sending e-mails. :rotfl2:

 You see some irony there, do ya?

Not hers... :rolleyes1

How do you know?
I'll have you know that Ruby thinks I have a great... but that's another story.

That's how hot it was. She chugged it.

I wanna see her chug a steaming hot cup of coffee.

That's too bad. I'm glad you at least had a chance to meet her!

::yes::

What's better than a little bit of sugar?

A whole lot of sugar! :thumbsup2

I know, right?
Because we didn't get nearly enough that day!

:sad2:

Ok, I'm kind of right there with you.

I know... we do a lot of characters.

But I have a 5 and a 3 year old. They love them.

Me? Well, we did a few character meals in 2008, pre-kids. My attitude was closer to yours

Oh, I get that.
We did both Princess breakfasts (when that was about your only bet to see 'em)
when the rugrats were little.

That is fantastic! I'm glad that you got a chance to go visit Ariel!

 All for my faithful readers.

Um... what? So was the line marked at 90 minutes, but a lot shorter? Or did you grab another FP+?

Yeah... So I screwed up.
It's SM... Space Mountain! that had the 90 minute wait.
Then we rode HM. With no wait.

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: U iz smrt.

Yeah.... So smart.... This is not the first time Kay's shown me up.
It won't be the last.

Rotten kid.

Oh geeze.... just get up and let me drive!

And then... take everyone to Beaches & Cream for ice cream!

What is wrong with them?????

Well, Ruby's not a fan, but Elle is just trying to watch her junk food intake.

WHAT???? Get that kitchen sink.

I wonder if one person who goes in hungry could take one out? :scratchin

I'd be willing to try and find out.

No Way Jose is definitely what I want to try there too!

You definitely should because it is definitely amazingly good!

I wonder if he was just gambling on the fact that that was all you had and you'd just let him keep it? Looks like it bit him in the butt.

You're not the first person to mention that.
Makes me wonder...

9:40

Spaceship Earth

Hmmm... I know there are a couple you've mentioned in EPCOT, but I guess I'll go with that Margarita in Mexico.

Um... maybe-ish. No.

Teppan Edo

Noted.

Hmmm.... At the wrong spot, though.

Yeah, he had to make the suggestion.
When I found out it was closed, it didn't immediately click that the lights would be on.
(Obviously for me, the lights were on but no one was home.)
But they were on during the lightning storm, right?

I wanna see her chug a steaming hot cup of coffee.
Ok, I haven't been to a Starbucks since I grabbed a pastry at one about 4 or 5 years ago when it was the only place to get some breakfast at a hotel I was staying in for a conference. So my point is, I really don't know their menu.

But I'm pretty sure they have some overpriced cold beverages to go along with their overpriced coffee. If it was as hot as you say, chugging a cold one doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Then again, Courtney might have already adapted to Florida heat and actually craved a hot cup of coffee.

Yeah.... So smart.... This is not the first time Kay's shown me up.
It won't be the last.

Rotten kid.
That's what she's there for.

And then... take everyone to Beaches & Cream for ice cream!
YAY!!!!!

She said she was stopping at Starbucks...
Where's her drink?

My guess is she had a cold drink - that's why she could chug it. ;)

No, Kay wanted a yard stick full of coloured sugar.
You know why?
Because it's a yard stick full of sugar.

Noooo!!!! We have a neighbor who gives out full size pixie sticks at Halloween sometimes. Those things give me nightmares!

So I had to "explain" it to her a little more clearly.
I gently showed her the error of her ways
and Ariel and I were able to gaze deeply into each other’s eyes.

That is an awesome photo!

I didn't catch our Buzz scores, because I wasn't fast enough,
but suffice to say.... they were horrible.

Probably not any more horrible than mine. I can't seem to get the hang of that one.

Check the standby time for Space... 90 minutes.
Ha! Not gonna happen!

This version makes so much more sense than the original! (I didn't have time to reply when I originally read it.)

So we turned and left.

This time, you did *not* fool me!

Disney Transportation Wait Time to date (6 busses): 5 minutes

I may need to change my guess - but I think I'll hold out a little longer...

irene_dsc - POTC, JC, yes, Plaza, Beaches, no - 10 points

Woot!

irene_dsc - 2 points 'cause she likes it spicy.

Lol. I don't remember what I said for this one, but I'll take it!

What time does Kay wake up?

Where's our Dinner ADR for?

And now the totally random guesses start...

Kay wakes up at 10:30.

You go on Test Track that costs you time.

Grey Goose slushie?

Since you got to the park late, I'm guessing you didn't use your hoppers.

And ate at ... umm... Via Napoli.

Kay had said she wanted a buffet meal
and I didn't know for sure if we'd be done with MK yet or not
(I guessed correctly. Points for me! Say Yay! and you'll get points!)
So that's how we wound up with an ADR for Crystal Palace.

Bonus questions, round 6!
We're off to the last park we haven't seen yet!
Epcot!

What time does Kay wake up?
Hint: It ain't early.

What ride do we go on that costs us time
because we FP'd it?

What drink has been on my list for ages...
And I finally drink (for the first time.)

We have park hoppers.
Do we use them today?

And finally... lots of choices here.
Where's our Dinner ADR for?

Good luck!

Yay!

Probably the only points I'll get since it seems I don't have any points yet. If you're feeling generous, I bet you could give me a 100 points and I'll still won't win the contest.

I know I said I could be around more since I'm not working. Still not working. Still looking but I've had several interviews. Hopefully one of them will hire me soon. I have managed to keep up with the TR though. Do I get bonus points for that? How about bonus points for asking for bonus points? I bet by pushing the envelope, I'll be the first person to be in the negative points column.

Well lets see if I can get some points. I know I could've gotten some if I would've answered the earlier questions. I wouldn't have gotten them all right, but some I know I could've gotten some of them at least.

Anyways. Kay gets up at 12 noon. Give or take 8 hours. :rolleyes1

I say Test Track. I remember having a FP for that ride and it still costs us time when we rode it.

Hmm. I remember 2 drinks being on your list. I'm going with Grey Goose Slush.

No to park hopping (although for some reason I want to say yes.)

Garden Grill is your ADR.

You didn't specify a location... :rolleyes1

I know. Which is why I gave you (well, technically will be giving you) the points.

But they were on during the lightning storm, right?

Yes.

But they were very, very, very, dim.

I know. It's the only thing I have from there.
Vanilla Bean Frapuccino. Ice. No coffee.

But it's more fun to think of her downing it and throwing her head back and breathing flames.

You scream, we scream, we all scream for Disney.

My guess is she had a cold drink - that's why she could chug it. ;)

Nah. That's not as much fun as imagining her able to chug boiling water.

Noooo!!!! We have a neighbor who gives out full size pixie sticks at Halloween sometimes. Those things give me nightmares!

Embrace the dark side, Irene.... Embrace the sweet, sugary dark side.

That is an awesome photo!

Thanks!

Probably not any more horrible than mine. I can't seem to get the hang of that one.

Yeah. I prefer TSMM where you can at least see where you're shooting!

This version makes so much more sense than the original! (I didn't have time to reply when I originally read it.)

Yeah. What can I say. I'm an idiot.

This is not news. Just re-stating the obvious.

This time, you did *not* fool me!

I may need to change my guess - but I think I'll hold out a little longer...

Okay... but if you change now and win you get 30 points.
After the next update, 25.

Lol. I don't remember what I said for this one, but I'll take it!

You said:

pkondz said:
Yup, you definitely got me with that one! But I can see where planning your poses would definitely spice it up!

And now the totally random guesses start...

Kay wakes up at 10:30.

You go on Test Track that costs you time.

Grey Goose slushie?

Since you got to the park late, I'm guessing you didn't use your hoppers.

And ate at ... umm... Via Napoli.

Noted.

Mike! You're alive!!!

Probably the only points I'll get since it seems I don't have any points yet. If you're feeling generous, I bet you could give me a 100 points and I'll still won't win the contest.

I can spare a few.

Not 100.

I know I said I could be around more since I'm not working. Still not working. Still looking but I've had several interviews. Hopefully one of them will hire me soon.

I was just going to ask about the job hunt.
Any of them looking good?
(As in they might hire you?)

I have managed to keep up with the TR though. Do I get bonus points for that?

Yes.

How about bonus points for asking for bonus points? I bet by pushing the envelope, I'll be the first person to be in the negative points column.

Wanna give it a try?

But here's a hint.
Check out thelittlekatie's score and how she got there....

There are ways.
I don't penalize for coming in late.

Well lets see if I can get some points. I know I could've gotten some if I would've answered the earlier questions. I wouldn't have gotten them all right, but some I know I could've gotten some of them at least.

That's what they all say, buddy.
I ain't falling for it!

And nice to hear from you again!

Well... I see the confusion now.

I was reading Andy's comments and... what the what?

Okay...

I wrote that last update and posted it around 2am.
Not an excuse... but I'm guessing that's part of the problem.

I've amended the update.

Sorry for the confusion!

LOL thats where my comment came from... I read it as you saw it was a posted 90 minute wait time but you walked right on...

LOL thats where my comment came from... I read it as you saw it was a posted 90 minute wait time but you walked right on...

 I couldn't figure out why you said "LIARS".
I originally replied with "You lost me"

It took me reading Andy's comment to clue in.

UGH! I knew this is what would happen. You post the update and then I go back home and real life sets in or worse, the refrigerator breaks down. Plus I still haven't unpacked. I came over here to try and start to comment on your update and there were like two or three new pages of comments!

Plus I've also been plowing through your last TR in order to get some hints on the bonus questions, but it looks like there aren't any. I will be back to comment on the update when I have a chance. For now I need to go tick off a few things on the long list I have made for myself of tasks to accomplish. And only 13 days until my parents arrive for Thanksgiving! :faint:

Where's the honour amongst DIS dads?

<points vaguely in a random direction>

(Don't answer that.)

Oops. Sorry.

Well...
When I was a teen, I rode the crazy mouse with my best friend
at the local fair.
I reached up and touched a passing cross beam.
The electric jolt travelled down my arm and into the seat,
zapping both of us.
Not the most pleasant of experiences.

:scared1::scared1:

No! That means snow and freezing cold temps sooner!

But I wanna go to Disney World!

Kidding aside, when I first rode it last February no my solo trip,
I FPd it twice.
I'm glad I did, since I hadn't ridden it before, but...
I also regretted not riding BTMRR more.
In the future... it's possible that I might not FP it at all.
Rope drop provided me with more than enough time to ride it.
And once/trip is enough.
Not so, BTMRR.

I figured I'd get the FP just to make sure I got to ride it, since it'll be new to me. But judging from the reviews, it's not going to replace BTMRR as a favorite. So I'll be happy to cross if off the list and then go back to the classics.:thumbsup2

Gotta re-read those before I get kicked out of the club house.
f

You'd have to burn down the clubhouse to get kicked out. But even then it's only if the guys have nothing better to do.

Close but no cigar.

I don't want a cigar, I want points!

No... to get kicked out, you'd have to burn down the clubhouse and try to put out the fire with the beer. I'm pretty sure that would do it.

What time does Kay wake up?
Hint: It ain't early.
11:15am

What ride do we go on that costs us time
because we FP'd it?
Test Track

What drink has been on my list for ages...
And I finally drink (for the first time.)

We have park hoppers.
Do we use them today?

You know why?

Calories especially don't count when you are walking 74.3 miles a day!

Beaches and Cream!

Hey look at that! I got something right! :cool1:

Kay ordered the Fudge Mudslide while I had the No Way Jose.
Which (after the Sink) was #1 on my list.
Yum!!!!

Epcot!

Let me guess. Mmmmmmmm, you're going to Epcot? That is my feeble attempt at earning extra points

What time does Kay wa
