Canadian Buffoon European Vacation - 30/03 - Endings and Silver Linings

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!!

Holy cow, December has been a whirlwind month. I have three chapters to catch up on as well as all the commentary so it's a good thing the holiday rush is ending.

Catching up is on my "to do" list for tomorrow evening.

For now, I have to run to one final family Christmas get together!

I hope everyone has had a nice Christmas! :goodvibes

Merry Christmas to all my DIS friends and fellow Neboites!

To all of you wonderful Dissers, I wish you a

aw!!! all these Christmas wishes from so many pals to each other!!!!:grouphug:

merry Christmas all!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

To all on this wonderful trip report!

And yes it is totally the thought that counts - this wonderful post proves it. :rotfl2: Priceless. :thumbsup2

Good to know that I can't do something as simple as remembering which colour, of two popcorn:: that I pushed last OR stay on one size somehow. :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

"Oh my! This TR is super amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" :rotfl2:

Seriously, though, it's great. Just stumbled upon it tonight and read the entire thing! Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your European adventures!

Totally exhausted... but so worth it.

Other than sitting down for dinner for an hour or so,
I was on my feet in the kitchen for about 12 straight hours.

Now I'm back at work...

And I see all these wonderful Christmas greetings!
Thanks to everyone for the kind wishes!

Ma at the wh......

Oh Wait. Family Board. Can't post that version here. Sorry. My bad. I hope Santa don't try to bring me a bag of coal now.

I'm just going to assume you got coal?

I was starting to wonder if everything was okay.
Glad to hear it was just busy-ness and not illness.

Too late!!!

But good try!

(Shhhh....Don't tell her, but I think maybe somebody else was having a bit too much rum in her eggnog!)

Welcome to the Trip Report, Triple CW.
We're all a little nuts here, so as long as you don't mind the occasional
wandering brain cells, you'll be all right.

(Shhhh....Don't tell her, but I think maybe somebody else was having a bit too much rum in her eggnog!)

I wish, well on the rum anyway. I think I'm going with dropped on her head as a baby. I mean really :rolleyes2 I can't even put a duck in a duck hole, on a kindergarten wooden puzzle, without issues.

Taken for a ride

What? You want more?
But isn't that enough?

Well obviously not. We're still around, aren't we? We won't hesitate to tell you when we're full. ;)

the only one that was finished

Early ADD, obviously. I was going to ask if you were ADD but that would SO rude and especially so close to Christmas, what is wrong with me? And I shouldn't even be joking about it, now should I? ;)

Well, three of us did.
Kay wasn't quite ready to face the world, yet.
So she asked me to steal a croissant and some Nutella for her.

What is wrong with her? :lmao: Did she not see the spread?

We left for the castle around 11:30am.
And no kidding, boy was that fun!

First off, it was a nice sunny day.
(why, oh why, couldn't it have been sunny yesterday?)

You know it's totally ridiculous that I'm imagining you in matching outfits and singing, well considering it's the wrong country. Certainly not because it's a ridiculous statement to begin with. :lmao::rotfl::lmao:

Now some of the more astute of you are crying out,

Simply wanted to tell you that I just love the word astute. Just sharing. :rotfl2:

Gorgeous. :goodvibes. Such an exquisitely beautiful shot. Well done!!!!

Gorgeous part deux. :thumbsup2

It's really too bad, because I had this really spiffy photo of Wills and Kate that I was going to bring in with me.
I left it outside, and when I got back, it was gone.

Bad. That was a BAD one. :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

I did find this photo of the King's bedroom which is pretty representative of the rest of the castle.

schlafzimmer480.jpg

Fairly understated.

YUCK. It's like Trump's home. Too much. TOO MUCH LUDWIG. Did I even get his name right? Or did I just make one up? I'm way too lazy to check. :lmao:

[/QUOTE]

We walked around the exterior of the castle, seeing the gardens, then made our way to a man-made grotto.

I'm sorry but all I can think of is the Playboy mansion when you say that word. :rotfl2: Too funny.

It was so flat that we thought it might possibly have been replaced with plexiglass or something.
That makes sense, doesn't it?
Everything else is covered in glass or plexi, and you don't want the grotto to rust, right?

OMG, you have brought me back to the worst memory. Some seventies horror movie, Diane from the Graduate and Sam Elliott. And people die, yes I believe I said horror. :lmao: People die and one woman dies because someone pressed some secret button and plexiglass came over the pool. And she was trapped as OF COURSE :rotfl: she was swimming underwater at the time. :rotfl: Totally horrifying. Totally.

I would just die. Well I guess I would, eh? :rotfl2:

After having our fill of opulence and decadence, we did the only thing that we could do...

We stopped at the little town of Ettal and had Torte (cake!)

I mean... Of course, right?

Cake. All is right with the world. :thumbsup2

See for yourself...

Good thing we had dessert before we got here!

Well, alright. We know when we're not wanted.
(which is pretty often, actually)

Since Garmisch is closed, we'll go to Mittenwald instead.

<<<continued next post>>>

Wow. Good thing. Good thing! Pretty though. :thumbsup2

Well obviously not. We're still around, aren't we? We won't hesitate to tell you when we're full. ;)

Did you really have to use the word 'full' the day after Christmas?
I'm still stuffed!

Early ADD, obviously. I was going to ask if you were ADD but that would SO rude and especially so close to Christmas, what is wrong with me? And I shouldn't even be joking about it, now should I? ;)

Now I'm really curious to know why you ask if I'm ADD.
I'm not saying I am or I'm not, but...

ever notice that ADD and 'add' are the same?

But 'add' and 'ad' are not.

And 'are not' is close to Arnold.

Wasn't Arnold the name of the pig in Charlotte's Web?

No, wait that was Wilbur

One of the Wright brothers Wilbur, Orville and Horace.
(No one remembers Horace, who tried the very first flight...
off a cliff...
a high cliff)

Ever see those cliff divers in... I think it's Acapulco?
Is that how you spell it?

Don't you think alpacas should come from Acapulco?

They both sound kind of the same.
Both start with 'a'.

You could add them together to make Alpacapulco, right?

But not ADD them together.

And I still don't know why you'd ask if I have ADD.

What is wrong with her? :lmao: Did she not see the spread?

I think she's already proven that sleep is a very high priority.

You know it's totally ridiculous that I'm imagining you in matching outfits and singing, well considering it's the wrong country. Certainly not because it's a ridiculous statement to begin with. :lmao::rotfl::lmao:

Weeeeeee're OFF to see the castle!
The wonderful castle of Ludwig!

Doesn't quite roll off the tongue quite as well as the original.

Simply wanted to tell you that I just love the word astute. Just sharing. :rotfl2:

Just wait until I use 'pernicious'.

You'll swoon.

Gorgeous. :goodvibes. Such an exquisitely beautiful shot. Well done!!!!

Thanks!

Gorgeous part deux. :thumbsup2

Thanks! Thanks!

Bad. That was a BAD one. :lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

I meant every word.

YUCK. It's like Trump's home. Too much. TOO MUCH LUDWIG. Did I even get his name right? Or did I just make one up? I'm way too lazy to check. :lmao:

Yup. It's Ludwig.

You have to remember that it was a very different time back then.

Over the top? Oh, absolutely! But only Kings and Queens could possibly hope for such opulence.

Now it's anyone with an Internet flash-in-the-pan and an IPO.

I'm sorry but all I can think of is the Playboy mansion when you say that word. :rotfl2: Too funny.

Unfortunately, it was nothing like the Playboy grotto.

Or maybe it's fortunate that it wasn't!
"Ruby? Let's go back and visit the grotto again.
You don't have to come if you'd rather go shopping or something...."

OMG, you have brought me back to the worst memory. Some seventies horror movie, Diane from the Graduate and Sam Elliott. I would just die. Well I guess I would, eh? :rotfl2:

Diane from the Graduate?
Do you mean Katharine Ross? She played Elaine.

Yup. Just looked it up. The movie was called The Legacy (never seen it).

They did a similar thing in James Bond's Thunderball. Of course they also added sharks.
'Cause being trapped underwater wasn't quite good enough.

Did you really have to use the word 'full' the day after Christmas?
I'm still stuffed!

Oh, I know, eh? I cooked. And it was fabulous, weirdly enough. :rotfl2:

Now I'm really curious to know why you ask if I'm ADD.
I'm not saying I am or I'm not, but...

So you are! :thumbsup2 (That was good.)

Just wait until I use 'pernicious'.

You'll swoon.

I will ONLY swoon over astute.

Unfortunately, it was nothing like the Playboy grotto.

Or maybe it's fortunate that it wasn't!
"Ruby? Let's go back and visit the grotto again.
You don't have to come if you'd rather go shopping or something...."

Well that would have been your last vacation. :rotfl2:

Diane from the Graduate?
Do you mean Katharine Ross? She played Elaine. YES ELAINE!!! YES MS. ROSS.

Yup. Just looked it up. The movie was called The Legacy (never seen it).

They did a similar thing in James Bond's Thunderball. Of course they also added sharks.
'Cause being trapped underwater wasn't quite good enough.

My God, can't you give me a minute to realize my error, I came back on to edit when hearing Diane! Diane! BENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! in my head didn't make any sense. :rotfl2: Drat you. I wasn't quick enough. Must be the ADD. :rotfl2: ;)

That movie still kills me. A made for TV silly movie and Sam Elliott is sexy too but it's the woman dying trying to break through the glass still gets me. :crazy2: I have must have drowned in a past life - maybe around one of Ludwig's castles. Hey, maybe in the grotto. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

I forgot to say that it was brilliant. :rotfl2: Don't want to inflate your ego, but brilliant. :lmao: So consider that a Boxing Day present, shhh I got it on sale! ;)

"Oh my! This TR is super amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I can't believe I skipped over this post for the last 4 months. At least I've read it all now.

pkondz, you know who rivals the french for opulence? The Russians! We did a Baltic cruise this summer and those czars really knew how to utilize the gold leaf, of course a lot of it was destroyed in WWII in St. Petersberg, but the Russians are now in the midst of putting it all back! Amazing!

Love the trip report, Paris is an amazing place, too bad you didn't stop in London, I would have loved to hear your commentary on the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour. I haven't been to Germany, it's on my list after China, but I can't wait to see what you thought of Venice! We were there for 4 days before the Baltic cruise in June of this year, it was hotter than ..., but, really beautiful, and the food, to die for!

Oh, I know, eh? I cooked. And it was fabulous, weirdly enough.

hmmmm.... "weirdly enough"
Methinks either you are being modest...

Or you're one of those people (like my DMIL, for example) who somehow manages to burn water.

I will ONLY swoon over astute.

I once swooned over astute.
But not to worry...
The stute jumped out of the way in time and I only landed on my face.

Well that would have been your last vacation. :rotfl2:

Correction.
That would have been my last vacation with a wife...
At least with the current wife.

Nope. With any wife.
If she dumps me, nobody's going to make the mistake of marrying me again, no matter how much I beg and cry and scream.... again.

My God, can't you give me a minute to realize my error, I came back on to edit when hearing Diane! Diane! BENNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN! in my head didn't make any sense. :rotfl2: Drat you. I wasn't quick enough. Must be the ADD. :rotfl2: ;)

All I could think about was Diane from Cheers as Dustin's girlfriend.

Sam Elliott is sexy too

Sam Elliott is the epitome of coolness.
And I defy any man to say that he doesn't want his voice.

But not my idea of sexy... :rolleyes1:

I have must have drowned in a past life

Hah! Gotcha beat! I've drowned in this life.
Almost twice.

- maybe around one of Ludwig's castles. Hey, maybe in the grotto. :rotfl::lmao::rotfl:

That's how I wanna go.
In the Playboy grotto...

I forgot to say that it was brilliant. :rotfl2: Don't want to inflate your ego, but brilliant. :lmao: So consider that a Boxing Day present, shhh I got it on sale! ;)

Got it on sale? That's good, because prose like that is priceless.
Priceless I tell ya!

Don't worry about inflating my ego.
It couldn't possibly get any more inflated.

"Oh my! This TR is super amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Thanks Jenn, (mind if I call you that? or I can call you CDF. or I can call you a cab.) I can't believe you feel so strongly about it!!

I can't believe I skipped over this post for the last 4 months. At least I've read it all now.

And now you're thinking, "Why, oh why didn't I just keep skipping it?!?!"

pkondz, you know who rivals the french for opulence?

oooh, I love guessing games.
Okay.
ummmmmm...... uuuuuuhhhhh....

The Tibetans?

The Russians!

Oh, drat! And I was so close, too!

We did a Baltic cruise this summer and those czars really knew how to utilize the gold leaf, of course a lot of it was destroyed in WWII in St. Petersberg, but the Russians are now in the midst of putting it all back! Amazing!

A Baltic cruise sounds pretty amazing!
My folks and sister went to Russia a few years ago
(without me! Can you believe that? .... Well, when you get to know me, you'll probably believe it...
Wait.... I just insulted myself....:headache:) and they really enjoyed it.

Love the trip report,

Thanks! :)

Paris is an amazing place, too bad you didn't stop in London, I would have loved to hear your commentary on the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour.

London was originally on the list, but due to time (and money!) constraints, we had to pick between England or Italy... and England lost.

I haven't been to Germany, it's on my list after China, but I can't wait to see what you thought of Venice! We were there for 4 days before the Baltic cruise in June of this year, it was hotter than ..., but, really beautiful, and the food, to die for!

Venice is coming up in about two chapters.
I'll comment then.
But.... yup. Hot.

Thanks for chiming in... and welcome to the TR! :goodvibes

hmmmm.... "weirdly enough"
Methinks either you are being modest...

Or you're one of those people (like my DMIL, for example) who somehow manages to burn water.

Neither. I gave up modest a couple of years ago. It was way too exhausting. :lmao:

Correction.
That would have been my last vacation with a wife...
At least with the current wife.

Nope. With any wife.
If she dumps me, nobody's going to make the mistake of marrying me again, no matter how much I beg and cry and scream.... again.

So interesting. popcorn:: Here you are contemplating future vacations, the future of your marriage or any future ceremony and I had you "disappearing" somewhere around Ludwig's castle like a 48 hour mystery, future totally undetermined. Interesting. :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

__________________________________________________________________-

Oh Venice is coming. I can't wait. I'm singing Spirit of the West right now. And you can add drat to the swoon list. ;) I just realized that I lied when I said astute only.

Welcome! Glad you found us.
We're a little off beat... no... wait...
We're a lot off beat, so don't let that throw ya.

hmmm.... cindermomma....

I keep picturing an indignant momma saying something like,
"Now don't you go makin' an ash outta yourself again!"

But 'ashmomma' doesn't sound as good as cindermomma on the DIS.

I have been known to tell plenty of people to stop making an ash outta themselves.........hahaha!

Loving this thread! :cool1:

I mean really :rolleyes2 I can't even put a duck in a duck hole, on a kindergarten wooden puzzle, without issues.

A little late on the uptake here (boy things are busy this season!). But since Lisa has been bugging Pkondz about ADD, I might add that when I read this line I suddenly morphed the name to "lisaviolent" due to my mental image of the situation...
