The site does indicate they are working to make it more accurate as more people are vaccinated and more details are provided so I expect it will get a better result in another month or two.

Yeah, same here...and DS doesn't even qualify yet because he only turns 16 in July!

I think there will be a mass vaccine plan for the summer for the kids to get it before they go back in September.

I got July to end of August too...which is earlier than expected so I'll take it.

Fingers crossed it gets approved for kids < 16

I also got early July to end of August (nice long date range ). Same for DH. But when I changed his category to 'esssential worker' his says mid May to early July. Of course at this point we don't know if courier/delivery drivers will be considered essential workers or not in BC yet.

Ok but do we still social distance and wear masks ?
How long ?
Are we waiting for most of the population to be immunized?
Are we able to pass along the virus if we have been immunized?

I really am having a hard time understanding all of this.

I went to the BC website at immunizebc.ca and read their FAQ. From my read, it looks as though we’ll all be masking and social distancing for a while after we are all immunized.

I believe they don't have the answer yet as to whether or not we can still pass the virus on after vaccination. Hence the masking requirement. I'm thinking masks will be required for most of 2021. 2022 will be a whole new year with new possibilities.

If 3/4 of the population are vaccinated by let's say September 2021, they should have a good idea as to what the vaccine can do. I read somewhere online today that they Moderna CEO thinks theirs will have affect for a couple of years.

I think they'll have some idea soon. There are lots of people with two shots already. Anecdotal evidence should become available within a month or so.

Don't read too much into that vaccine calculator. I work in an LTC and we were the first in our area being offered the vaccine. It has been screwed up royally. Less than half that signed up a week before Christmas have had an appointment for the first shot. Many others (including myself) were forgotten. Others called the hotline and got themselves an appointment, including some that never signed the forms. They then started vaccinating others outside of LTC. Now they have made a sharp turn in plans and will be bringing the vaccine in house for us BUT they failed to give notice of the new plans. Finally yesterday I was advised that no further appointments would be given and that we now have no choice but to wait.

so, at 65 and with comorbities, I am in the same situation...

They know that the vaccine will stop you from getting sick with the vaccine, but that doesn't mean that you will not actually have the virus in you. You could be asymptomatic despite being vaccinated. If you carry the virus, even though you are vaccinated, you may be able to spread it to others despite not being ill yourself. They don't really know this yet. Therefore you will still be required to wear a mask until the vaccination has been delivered to everyone possible. The mask and social distancing actually helps stop the spread. The vaccine protects you from getting really sick.

It’s not scary....it’s stupid. In a country that has been mass vaccinating for years it shouldn’t be that hard....yes, this is a much larger scale but they have the basics in place already. The bigger problem really is supply. It’s just not there yet and people got their hopes up thinking it was going to be full force out of the gate and smooth.
They never should have given even vague timelines and certainly shouldn’t have allowed LTC people to sign up for something they couldn’t accommodate. That part has caused additional upset in a setting that is already stress to the eyeballs.
