Can you transfer borrowed points?

We had planned a trip to BWV during spring break, which required that we borrow 82 points from our June 2010 use year.

Now our plans need to change that require us to travel after June, and I don't think we're going to be able to use these borrowed points before they expire at the end of May...

If I understand things correctly, I can't simply push these points back into 2010, but can I transfer these to another member who would use them by May 31st?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Only points from the current Use Year may be transferred. Points banked or borrowed into a Use Year may not be transferred. You can transfer points from the current Use Year and also the next Use Year - which would use the one-transfer-per-year for each of those Use Years.

You can make a reservation using those points for yourself or someone else. They could also be banked into the World Passport Collection where you could have up to 2 years to use them. Otherwise the borrowed points will expire at the end of the Use Year into which they were borrowed.

Doc:

I have a question. I know that one cannot transfer borrowed or banked points. And I know that transferred points may be banked. That I have done before.
But I am still confused as to whether transferred points may be borrowed. For example, on June 1, 2008, I was transferred some June 2009 points--from another member's 2009 use year into my 2009 use year.

I was able to bank these points to my 2010 use year.

My question is would I have been able to make a reservation in the time period June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009 (the 2008 use year) and borrow some of the June 2009 points that had been transferred in??

Thanks for any clarification.

No, transferred points cannot be borrowed, only banked. There are occasional exceptions for a single owner of multiple contracts that are done on a case by case basis.

No, except for a few exceptions, MS will not allow borrowing of transferred points. The exceptions will usually involve transfers between multiple contracts of a single owner.

Thanks for the answers, Doc and Dean. The case-by-case exception is good to know since I own 7 contracts under one membership, all with the same use year.

If all of your contracts are under one membership you can't transfer to yourself since all points are already in one contract.

If you have multiple membership contracts, there may be opportunities to transfer points between those memberships, but if all points are already in one membership number you don't need to transfer (and won't be able to transfer).

Then the possible exception wouldn't apply. You'd have to have different master contracts for it to be a possibility.

Okay. Thanks... failed to mention that I do have second membership contract, very small (25) that is my and my daughter's name. I had purchased it that way so that she would get also get the membership perks available to DVC and could possibly add on to it. So I guess that would work.
